we are in the process of doing the garden weve only lived here 12 months. Last year we had a small peonie plant but was in a bad way but it flowered ok and was looking forward to seeing it this summer.

We cut it right down over winter and now its beautiful I can't wait to see the flowers its just gone bigger every day.

Anyone else got one and want to show it off would love to see the different varieties.

I love peonies and have one just outside my back door. I can't wait for it to flower. I have a few more throughout the garden and they are all different colours and so pretty. I'll pop a pic on in a bit. What colour does yours flower?

MrsMotherHen · 22/05/2018 18:58

they flower dark pink i think I can't remeber really the buds are purply pink.

Will try and get a pic of mine later - they were my mums and I transported them a fair few miles to where they are today and took a guess as to where they would do well

Both different aspects (one full sun and another partial shade) but both doing well - miracle really as I had not a clue about the rule about depth when I replanted them!

Have just bought a cutting of a white peony bush - can't wait for that to grow/flower

Also have a peony tree and lots of peony tree babies Grin

PeonyTruffle · 22/05/2018 19:07

Just causally place marking to look at all the beautiful peonies.

My most favourite flowers ever Grin

I have 4 peonies in the garden, and I didn’t buy any of them. One was a cutting from NDN’s MIL, and the other three were being thrown out by a friend. Who throws out peonies? They are the most beautiful white splashed with dark pink - like a raspberry ripple ice cream - and smell wonderful. In bud at the moment...

Nairobiblue · 22/05/2018 19:32

My peonies have been out for ages and sadly some are almost finished. They are my favourite flower, I just wish they lasted longer.

I love paeonies too and have five in my garden. They are all babies though (2 years old or less) but three of them have buds on this year. One is "Bowl of Beauty", one is "Hawaiian Coral" and one is a mystery, but may be "Sarah Bernhardt". Can't wait...they are worth their brief flowering period for their utter gloriousness!

JT05 · 22/05/2018 20:02

Planted Sarah Bernhardt bulb last year, lots of leaves no flower buds this year. A different one in a pot for several years, one bud this year. I think it’s going to be pink.

tizwozliz · 22/05/2018 20:30

We had enough this year for cut flowers whilst leaving some colour for the garden. We have 3 peony plants in different spots now after not entirely successful relocation attempts, they grow in both old and new spots.

I dug all my herbaceous peonies up last year in preparation for moving house.

I've just planted three of them with two to go. All thriving happily and one already in flower despite the move.

I'd love a tree peony but I thought they were hard to grow from seed. Any tips, or even would you be interested in selling one of the babies chis ?

beckslovestimmy · 23/05/2018 13:38

This is the one outside my pack door. Just waiting for it to bloom.

They are very temperamental Frab!

I spotted a few that had self seeded last year and repotted them to avoid overcrowding - one by one they died!

The tree was here when we moved in so we were lucky

There's 15 in this little patch in my lawn and at least the same again around the side and back of the tree

I would love to share them but not convinced they'd survived.

It is beautiful Hen - for all of about 5 days and then the petals fall!

Less if it's windy or rainy like last year Confused

applecatchers36 · 26/05/2018 20:11

Mine are now in their fading glory stage but still love them

I only have 1 peony , some very small buds appearing. Picture is from last year, the wind wrecked them so I picked them all.

Apparently you can put the buds in the fridge and bring them into the warm when you want them to open - Can be months later.

Are you all down south? Mine is only just got it’s flower buds (central Scotland).

WellTidy · 27/05/2018 09:01

I am down south but mine is still in bud. I am wondering if they won't open. I will be gutted as I have been buying cut peonies at £10 for 5 stems weekly (m and s, and Waitrose) for the last five weeks. The ones I had from m and s this week are truly beautiful. So, so fat and blousy and strong and I am completely in love. I was soooooo looking forward to having some from my own garden! There are 11 buds on it, pale pink. Any views welcome!

Some gorgeous peonies on this thread, I bet you're all so proud!

I have a tree peony too. Bought it last year but nothing doing. It looks healthy, and it is growing, but I think it is going to keep me waiting for a while. I stupidly planted it to the front of the border, just to get it in, and ive read that they don't like to be moved. So I might be waiting for flowers for a while longer!

FuzzyCustard · 27/05/2018 10:04

I'm in the SW (but a wild part!) and mine are in bud. They are young plants though (2 years old) - I wonder if this makes a difference?

MrsMotherHen · 27/05/2018 11:04

am in northwest and still only got buds

BiteyShark · 27/05/2018 11:07

I have had mine for two years. The first no buds. The second a few buds which didn't open.

This year we have around 20 buds so really hoping it flowers this year.

ReanimatedMuse · 27/05/2018 11:07

I've just moved into my place and have a huge peony plant that I need to transplant due to a pending extension.

Any idea how easy this is to do?

ChishandFips33 · 27/05/2018 14:31

I moved mine by taking loads around the rootball in the idea it wouldn't feel as if it had been moved

I believe they also don't like being planted too deeply so aim to keep at the same height they've been if they've been thriving there
