Has anyone had any luck with Poundland plants?

Namely, the roses, honeysuckle, blackberry and other fruit bushes? I spent about £8 in there on a whim, and am wondering if my gamble will pay off…

Not the bushes, but when I bought different herb seeds there the chilli seeds grew into ...sunflowers! So who knows what fruit you might get

I've 2 very fruitful poundland gooseberry bushes which must be about 4 years old now. They took a couple of years to get established and produce any amount of fruit though.

I bought raspberries, gooseberries and loganberries a few weeks ago, I planted them out and they are developing leaves well. With Poundland be very careful to look at the plants before you buy. They are not looked after in the shop.

I always repot cheap garden plants into a larger pot with good compost, for a season. This seems to allow them to establish and develop, especially those that are sold in plastic sleeves in supermarkets.

Yes, and their seeds are great too!

As others have said, it's important to get the new stock before it's been left to the mercy of the shop assistants!

Thank you! I picked the ones that seemed trying to grow and had little green shoots, so fingers crossed.

I'm not that bothered if it takes 2 years for them to spring up. For the sake of £1 I can be patient!

I just spend a fortune on large honeysuckle and jasmine plants for all round the garden, so these honeysuckles and things are just little add-ons.

Update: honeysuckle, climbing rose, buddelia and rasberries seem to be growing well. Others are a bit twig-like but it's early days.

I know its a very old post.. but just hoping for an update? how did your Poundland plants do in these 3 years please?

I have picked up few plants from Poundland today and got the exact feeling as you :)
I got a bush rose, buddaleia and philadelphus- mock orange.

I have:

• a big healthy black currant, probably about 5 years old now, ‘Ben’ something variety
• a lovely big red currant roughly the same age ’jonkeer Von tets’
• 2 climbing roses

-I had a gorgeous healthy shrub rose ‘peace’ possibly I think was the variety but I removed it as the colour didn’t look right in my garden

• some red ‘ballerina’ false thrift about 2 years old
• some regular thrift about 3 years old
• countless crocus and snowdrop bulbs pop up every year
• lots of lovely red/orange/yellow gladioli about 5 years old now and pops up and spreads far and wide every year

-some chives about 5 years old

• 2 healthy vigorous ‘hinnonmaki green’ gooseberries, probably about 3 years old
• some verbena bonariensis, less than a year old, survived its first winter
• a morello cherry tree about 2 years old
• a green lady stratheden, 4 years old maybe

all from Poundland/poundstretcher/B&M stores

I find their plants fantastic quality.

Also Morrisons and Ebay and Aldi

Another good place for plants is Wilko. I bought lots from there 3 years ago as temporary gap fillers, after a garden makeover. They are all thriving really well.

I planted up a gooseberry, raspberry and blueberry last week from the Range.
Bought a camelia yesterday from Home Bargains fingers crossed...

Gooseberries are so so easily, you can make more so easily as well, just snip a twig off and stick it in the soil, they almost always root!

Is your camellia in acid soil?
I’m fairly sure they require acid soil to do well.
Same for blueberries, my blueberry is in a pot of acid soil with some heathers.

Yes I have potted them up in ericaceous. Have fairly acid garden soil but preferred them in pots for now. I'm up north and still getting a bit of snow so the camellia is in the greenhouse.

@greenIsAlwaysGood about a 40% success rate! But, I didn't look after them very well or plant them properly

One of the roses is massively outperforming my expensive David Austen one

I got pregnant shortly after posting this and the garden has been woefully neglected ever since.

Lovely you got lucky with the roses.
I will test my luck. planting them in pots indoors now.
will get them out in a month's time if the weather is kind.

I have two blackcurrant bushes (they were reduced to 25p each three years ago) that are doing very well indeed, and a lovely Iceberg rose, also doing well and all from Poundland.

I like rescuing plants from there. I think they are grateful and do their best for me!

last week which I put them in pots yesterday.

I bought a rise bush and it didn't do anything.
I also bought a honeysuckle which seemed to die the first year but is now lush and green.
I did buy some hanging basket/pot seeds the other year from Home bargains and they have returned for two years running and look stunning.
I also spent about £4 on a rise from B& M which is doing well, my only complaint is that it is a different colour than advertised.

Rose not rise.

Not used Poundland, but have had good results from Aldi plants.
I find Wilko bulbs hit and miss- usually 2 out of 3 will grow- but those that survive are fabulous.
Range and Wilko seeds are good. Basic varieties obviously but have got cosmos ,tomatoes and courgettes that have good germination rates. I have bought some Lidl seeds for this year. There is a chap locally that grows veg plants for charity- does really well and gets most of his seeds from Lidl.Also like QD discount stores.
If you are in East Anglia- Roys are great for plants and other gardening kit.

Ah yes, Wilko. I bought a mountain of spring bulbs this year for only a few quid and they've all come up well

My red bush rose,Pink bush rose, Yellow climbing rose, Hibiscus and Raspberry seem to be doing okay.. atleast they look alive still.

It might be that I have not planted them properly (with enough compost and fertiliser etc)..
but who knows I might be lucky like @emilybrontescorsett..so will leave them there for now.

anyway hoping for the ones alive to get more greener ! All these are from PoundLand..

I have tomato, beans, Cucumber, courgettes, sunflower, strawberries and lots of other flowers seedlings..all germinating well.
