Pet plant hates

Bearing in mind that we all have different tastes (one woman's meat is another woman's poison and all that) what plants turn you off?

For me, it has to be begonias.

the brown heuchera (sp). It is so depressing and funereal to me. Daffodils I associate with sadness and mourning so not keen on those (although plant them every year for some reason)
There are lots of shrubby type things I hate unless they are in bloom. I tend to stick with evergreen stuff as I hate the look of semi dead things in the garden.

Can't be doing with camellias and azalea in my own garden. Camellias are overused as plants in Victoria, huge great shrubs and so boring for most of the year.

Photinia, also overused.

Ditto pittosporum, which I would torch if I could.

Ornamental cabbages, why would you waste valuable gardening space on them?

I dont like Begonias either...they look very tatty, my neighbour has loads.

Roses... bad memories of my GP's huge rose garden (over 200) that was a no mans land and it used hurt too much to retrieve stray toys. Plus one of my firts jobs after leaving school was in a florist where the lowly one me got to remove all the thorns off the stems

Big marigolds...have always prefered Tagetes

big trees in small gardens. I mean, why?

YY Y to ornamental cabbages! Just grow actual cabbages and then you can eat them when you're sick of them. And to big trees in small spaces.

I would say busy lizzies, but I am not sure anyone grows them anymore. I used to love them as a child, though!

I also have it in a bit for cordylines.

I know what you mean about dead things dolka - I used to like those bronze carex. Now I just think they look like an ex-carex.

Hostas. Can't see the point of them.

All geraniums greenmarker? See, I like the perennial ones in the garden, the hardy geraniums. But I do not like quite a lot of pelargoniums.

Coleus. Anything ridiculously tastelessness variegated, and anything a sickly shade of yellow. Especially choisea sundance which just looks ill.

YY to photinia, there are so many in my area that I just want to spray paint them. Pieris and I have never got off to a good start or finish but there are really vibrant gorgeous ones around at the moment.

I love roses and hydrangeas in bloom but when they are cut back I just want to throw a colourful duvet over them.

Conifers. My new garden is full of the buggers.

Fuchsia, especially the red and purple variety. Camellia and peony.

Conifers for me too. My main one is more about style. My ds would have everything in straight lines and symmetrical if he could, whereas I prefer flowing curves and cottage style planting. You wouldn't believe the 'discussions' we have about it.

Laurel, shiny plastic looking leaves.

Busy Lizzies and begonias - tatty.

Primulas - garish colours and look really fake, just have natural primroses.

oh yes. straight lines.
and seasonal plant ripped out and replanted like in big shopping areas.

and flowery plants that are not swarming with bees.

Hydrangeas. Hate hate hate.

Happy with most other things

Oh, another one - those neon orange calendulas that are brighter than traffic cones. My Dad has a beautiful garden, but insists on letting these self-seed. Bleurgh!!

mind you- I've rather see that lot than a plastic topiary ball and a concreted drive!

Oh, I love neon orange calendulas, had loads at the allotment last year. And tge nein orange calufornia poppies.

I just have a hatred of really bright orange, whoknows. I don't know why, it is completely irrational It just makes me feel ill. I think it might be to do with fact I LOVE pink yet can't wear many shades of it as I am a red head! I think I compensate in the garden.

YES to the point that any plant - even a collection of begonias and neon calendulas - is better than fake plastic plants!

It is so funny reading people's pet hates!

I think my only plant hate is of the poinsettia. But it is a hatred that burns very very strongly indeed.
Just the sight of them in store makes me furious, and if anyone should give me a poinsettia, it is as if they have given me a filled dog poo bag with a scribbled note saying that they don't know me at all but don't like me, and they want me to suffer.

Red hot pokers - they're a winter plant here, so I quite like them.

I have only seen poinsettia once growing as a shrub in Melbourne: rather elegant.

Interesting views of hydrangeas: very hard to grow in Melbourne, though I have a thornless bougainvillea that smells exactly as hydrangeas used to when I was a child, and has a hydrangea's blooming habit. I'll pos at pic, though they're going over now.
