What is this plant?

Tall green grasses with deep orangey red spires. Big clumps and it seems to spread every year. Some are very much in flower just now but others are a bit further behind.

Difficult without a photo, but try googling crocosmia (aka montbretia)

Well done both! That's it. It's in a few different parts of my garden (was here when I moved in). It is lovely, eye catching, but I was wondering why there is a couple of clumps with no flowers or buds at all, just plenty of the grassy bit?
