2025 A Level Results Day and Sept Uni Starters - All Welcome

1000 replies

SlightlyJaded · 25/07/2025 22:26

I couldn't see board specifically dedicated to results day for our DC who have sat A levels this spring. And I know some of us STILL have questions about Uni starters.

DS has Liverpool as his first choice and Notts Trent as his insurance - both to study History. Anyone who recognises me from previous boards might remember the hell we went through with DD a couple of years ago, so DS has applied quite a lot of caution to his choices - perhaps too much, perhaps not enough. Neither of us have any idea what to expect with his results. He has genuinely fluctuated between a D and an A in some of his mocks....

I still haven't done anything about accommodation which is one of the reasons I am starting this thread.

But mostly, it's for nail biting, relief, tears, support, advice and all the other things needed to get us through the next few weeks.

Welcome :)

Poor DS has the ordeal of a PIP assessment call today - at least it might take his mind off tomorrow. I have been quietly researching clearing options in the background but it almost feels like jinxing the outcome to do this!

My poor boy is back in hospital having had another operation to correct the problems from the first.

My job for today is emailing school to find out if I can collect his results and we’re going to ask the ward if we can sneak in at 8am for half an hour so he can check UCAS. 🤯

Hope all goes well for you tomorrow and that your boy is on the mend xx

DD is going to get sports club this evening and then we are having a late night Chinese takeaway as a celebration for her hard work.

It's a fairly low-stress set of results for her, as she's doing a 1 year art foundation course with very low grade requirements next year while living at home and will be applying for art college next year, but my own A-level results day was so horrible that I'm finding it nerve-wracking even though I know DD will be fine.

We are in the exact position, my DD has been offered and Art Foundation year with a very low offer. But, to her credit, she still worked really hard and will be disappointed if her grades aren't what she's hoping for.

I'm still stressed for no real reason, but I am very grateful I'm not as stressed as I was waiting for her GCSE results!

Good luck to everyone!

@BettyEagleton I hope the hospital/school are kind to you and let you visit, and that your son is ok x

Temporalagency · 13/08/2025 13:46

@Changed18 on the phones straight away. She had 5 offers by 10am and confirmed online in the afternoon.

Changed18 · 13/08/2025 14:02

Thanks @Temporalagency. So if DS’ firm is not confirmed at 8am we’ll need to get into school for the actual results and then onto the phones. That’s a plan! (Though he does say he only wants his firm, I expect that would change pretty quickly!)

DipsyDee · 13/08/2025 14:14

We are going out for dinner followed by going to the cinema to watch a long film to take ALL our minds of it. Wishing you and your DC all the very best of luck for tomorrow

Justlurkingmostly · 13/08/2025 14:22

Any info on what time UCAS website typically becomes available? DD going down to school but said we can check it and I’m aware the site often crashes.

Seems to say 8.15 - though sometimes e-mail from Uni get through a bit quicker.

Think it took a bit longer for DD2 to get in two years ago she just kept trying.

I think 8am is the time to see offer status.

3bluellamas · 13/08/2025 14:35

IGNORE - UCAS BLIP

Temporalagency · 13/08/2025 14:42

@Changed18 I am a worrier and so had a sheet ready with possibles and phone numbers. DD was cross with me for doing it but very grateful afterwards. I had a few ideas about cities and towns I thought she'd like and as it turned out I had somewhere she absolutely loves now, on the list.

Changed18 · 13/08/2025 14:55

Thanks @Temporalagency

MonkeyTennis34 · 13/08/2025 15:12

DS2 said that offers come in at 8am.
Then it’s a trip to his school to collect results.
He’s (obviously) hoping to get his firm (Leeds). His insurance is Liverpool which he seems to have gone off
of a bit.
The thing I’m most pleased about at this stage is that he is 100% sure that he wants to go to uni this year, he has a plan!
Until a few weeks ago, he was so uncertain.
Good luck to everyone! 🍀

Leeds has noted they will; be releasing at 5pm today, same as Manchester

Really? I thought it was all embargoed till the morning? Can you let me know more about this please? Thank you! (we are Manc firm in our house)

Yes, sorry - list of places in clearing.

Yes it's obvs now. Sorry - hadn't realised how twitchy I was with the wait!!

wizzler · 13/08/2025 15:36

Wishing everyone well for tomorrow. I’ve taken the day off as I suspect this may be a sleepless night. I want to be available to support DD if required but she seems to have it all under control so I feel a bit of a spare part!

achangeofnameisasgoodasarest · 13/08/2025 15:54

I could have done without DD1 going clubbing last night and coming home at 5AM - cue me waking up at 4 and worrying about her as she wasn't home. She seems quite chirpy. I'm on eggshells (and knackered). Not really expecting to sleep much tonight either.

Good luck all!

gobbl · 13/08/2025 16:03

It seems Warwick and Bath have some places in clearing. But usual grades I think

theluckiest · 13/08/2025 16:18

Oh I’ve found you! I don’t remember being this antsy about my own A Level results 😬 Feels like we’ve just been in limbo for weeks now!

DS seems fine. He’s veering from being chilled and confident to just loudly proclaiming that it doesn’t matter anyway as he’s going to go travelling and become a personal trainer…
He’s stomped upstairs to watch Gladiator for the umpteenth time. Something loud and fighty that he doesn’t need to think about. 😆

I shall be a nervous wreck by 8am.

Wakemeuuuup · 13/08/2025 16:21

Good luck everyone. DS is staying busy today, out all day. I'm busy collecting clearing phone numbers in case

Birdbrained13 · 13/08/2025 16:29

Good luck everyone! I’m cleaning the house in a nervous frenzy 🤣 son is on holiday and quite chilled I think. Just checked and his course has gone into clearing having dropped 3 grades, so am feeling a little more optimistic. Not sure how I’ll sleep tonight tho

woolleybear · 13/08/2025 16:48

I seem to be more nervous than dc this time around! Hoping for Loughborough, but fortunately have an unconditional insurance choice with the bonus of a year in Australia with it. Might still check the Bath clearing list, this was their other top choice but grades were too similar to make it an insurance.

cafenoirbiscuit · 13/08/2025 17:04

Afternoon everyone - sending calming vibes to you all.
We have a confirmed place at Newcastle, as A levels were last year, but beloved DS accepted Brighton initially, changed his mind in June, and has missed all of the 40 week accommodation in Newcastle because UCAS took their sweet time making his formal offer, despite course leads at Ncl emailing everyone in the western hemisphere to confirm his place. So now we have 51 week accommodation instead at loads more money for us to find.
but it’s ok. DH and I just need to learn to chill, apparently 🙄
So we need to get on the phone at 9 tomorrow to see if there’s any wiggle room on a 40 week room.
Thoughts and prayers everyone!
