2025 A Level Results Day and Sept Uni Starters - All Welcome

1000 replies

SlightlyJaded · 25/07/2025 22:26

I couldn't see board specifically dedicated to results day for our DC who have sat A levels this spring. And I know some of us STILL have questions about Uni starters.

DS has Liverpool as his first choice and Notts Trent as his insurance - both to study History. Anyone who recognises me from previous boards might remember the hell we went through with DD a couple of years ago, so DS has applied quite a lot of caution to his choices - perhaps too much, perhaps not enough. Neither of us have any idea what to expect with his results. He has genuinely fluctuated between a D and an A in some of his mocks....

I still haven't done anything about accommodation which is one of the reasons I am starting this thread.

But mostly, it's for nail biting, relief, tears, support, advice and all the other things needed to get us through the next few weeks.

Welcome :)

“NCTDN · Today 09:39

Does anyone else feel genuinely sick with worry about Thursday? DS is ok but I’m anxious as the grades are so high for his form which he really really wants.”

@NCTDN - very nervous here too. DD’s preferred subject combination (though not obviously niche) is only available to her via her firm and it’s quite a demanding offer. Insurance is for a different subject combination. We were spared this with elder DD because her firm choice (a Scottish uni) gave a relatively gentle offer. Fingers crossed for all our DCs!!!

Phonicfail · 12/08/2025 21:47

They would be really happy to go there - it was actually a close call which to put as firm and insurance so it’s really a win win situation. Just hope it is what it seems to be! Good luck to your DS on Thursday

Hopefully not - ruptured appendix and complications afterwards. So should be over and done with now. I just feel really sorry for him missing so much fun.

My poor boy is back in hospital having had another operation to correct the problems from the first.

My job for today is emailing school to find out if I can collect his results and we’re going to ask the ward if we can sneak in at 8am for half an hour so he can check UCAS. 🤯

FiveFoxes · 13/08/2025 06:32

@BettyEagletonOh no. Your poor boy! Fingers crossed that school and hospital are helpful tomorrow and that he gets what he needs... And also that he recovers quickly and fully this time.

legosnowqueen · 13/08/2025 07:42

@BettyEagletonso sorry to see this - hope the ward can be flexible & he recovers quickly x

TheTurn0fTheScrew · 13/08/2025 07:45

@BettyEagleton hoping for a swift recovery for your DS. Fingers crossed that both the hospital and school are reasonable and flexible.

What are your dc doing tonight. Mine is torn between coming out for a drink and dinner to take his mind off it, to coming home from work today and hiding. 24 hours to go…..

jamimmi · 13/08/2025 08:13

@labradorservant mine says it hasn't hit yet but looked haunted last night and about six. Inthink we are watching a film and eating chocolate with maybe wine but not too much. We are not anticipating a good day tomorrow so need to be able to function.
@BettyEagleton I work in a hospital we would definitely let you in unless there was a clinical emergency, and try to find you a visitor room to sit in!

Mine is working, but I'm going for a walk with three friends who all have DC waiting for results!

Ours should hopefully be a stress free day, fingers crossed. His firm is much lower than his predicted grades, it was lower anyway but then also meets requirements for contextual offer. I probably still won't sleep tonight. I failed 2 of my a levels, and still went on to do a degree and professional qualification. There's always another way.

DS has just come down and said nobody is to speak to him today. He is just going to watch every single star wars movie back to back and try to stop his brain from thinking about it constantly.

Changed18 · 13/08/2025 09:53

All the best to your DS @BettyEagleton. Hope he’s better soon.

My DS has made my life a lot easier by saying he doesn’t really know what he wants to do he’s going to take a gap year and doesn’t feel he’s ready for university
just my DD to worry about now for results !
good luck all

No plans for this evening - if she's feeling sociable we might do a MarioKart marathon, but I suspect she will squirrel herself away in her room all day. I thought I was relaxed about it all, as I think her insurance is a safe bet, but turns out I was kidding myself and feel quite stressed.

nicky2512 · 13/08/2025 10:54

@BettyEagleton Hope he makes a quick recovery and that everything goes well for him tomorrow.

Sittingontheporch · 13/08/2025 11:11

Daughter just burst into tears. She's so stressed. Feels like it's going to determine the rest of her life however much we tell her otherwise. Says she'd like to never find out.

It's all complicated by the fact that she doesn't know what she wants to do. We're kind of pinning our hopes on the grades bringing her clarity. I fear it won't. We just don't know if she's off to Durham, clearing, insurance or taking a year off and reapplying. I think a gap year would do her good but that means having her getting stressed and anxious at home (instead of in a hall of residence somewhere).

I know it sounds made-up but she has such raging rejection sensitivity dysphoria. She gets a physical reaction to an failure, perceived failure, prospect of rejection. She's had all sorts of MH battles and this stupid applying with predicted grades system is pure kryptonite for her.

NCTDN · 13/08/2025 11:18

I think we’ll be making lists on clearing tonight. Wanted to do it earlier but not had chance, plus things imply that many units change information today.

Yes most will release around 5pm and 6pm on their websites so that would be a good idea. It's always better to just be prepared in case and hopefully the whole list isn't needed.

SheilaFentiman · 13/08/2025 12:01

Leeds has noted they will; be releasing at 5pm today, same as Manchester

UnimaginableWindBird · 13/08/2025 12:02

DD is going to get sports club this evening and then we are having a late night Chinese takeaway as a celebration for her hard work.

It's a fairly low-stress set of results for her, as she's doing a 1 year art foundation course with very low grade requirements next year while living at home and will be applying for art college next year, but my own A-level results day was so horrible that I'm finding it nerve-wracking even though I know DD will be fine.

Temporalagency · 13/08/2025 12:06

Just popping on to wish everyone good luck tomorrow.

DD3 dropped a grade (A*, A, B instead of AAA) and ended up in clearing. It has all worked out well for her despite her thinking the world was ending at 9 on results day. I know it is easy to say (and I know I can't avoid it) but try not to worry overly.

PunksVersusBrats · 13/08/2025 12:17

DS is mostly calm and hiding in his (stifling) room but every now and then I'll hear a very loud 'arrrggghhhhh!' as he either remembers or is reminded by something on his phone 🤣

All the very best to everyone for tomorrow 💪

doubleshotcappuccino · 13/08/2025 12:21

Trying to keep DS busy but the stress is beginning to show on him .. gosh this feels like a very slow drum roll and it’s not even my first rodeo

That's quite scary to hear – I'd have thought the A star would cancel out the B? But also reassuring that clearing worked out. Did you have to get on it right away?
