I've just realised that the year 12 2023/2024 thread is full - oops! - last message on 16 August - don't know if someone started another continuation thread but I can't see it. This coming year DS1 does A levels and university applications, DS2 will be in his GCSE year.

If there is a thread already started please let me know.

@TheTurn0fTheScrewim hoping all will be ok after exams but I’m a bit worried it won’t and will become habit.

jamimmi · 13/05/2025 22:44

Welcome back @HippyChickMama some of us are still here. No exams till June here as it's all sciences and maths. Reading this is making it all a bit real. Dd ok so far and found out she got her chosen uni accomodation today so it was a bit of a boost. Good luck to all with exams before half term

NCTDN · 14/05/2025 07:19

DS doesn’t have any exams till a week on Friday!
Which schemes e@jamimmi? He’s got physics before half term.

UnimaginableWindBird · 14/05/2025 14:23

DD has her first exam next week, so her room is a maze of timelines and flash cards, but she seems happy enough with how her revision is going.

nhsmanagersanonymous · 14/05/2025 16:39

Dd had English literature this afternoon. Sounds a bit tasty. She’d worked really hard so hope it’s ok.

BonjourCrisette · 14/05/2025 16:43

Eng Lit poetry for DD too. She said Heaney/Sheers was a bit of a rubbish questions but Paradise Lost was great.

Fluffycloudsfloatinginthesky · 14/05/2025 17:17

Well she went in so that’s a good thing. Some tears apparently.i haven’t heard from her though so no idea how it went. She’s edexcel I think which has really high grade boundaries.

BonjourCrisette · 14/05/2025 17:28

Hope it all went well for her, @Fluffycloudsfloatinginthesky.

Fluffycloudsfloatinginthesky · 14/05/2025 18:10

@BonjourCrisetteshe texted. She hated the hamlet question and said she felt really sick the whole time, really close to going to toilet but powered through. She said she felt ok for rest of paper as the question was ok. This was the exam she was most dreading I think so at least she has got this out the way. psych Friday.

so a good result!

BonjourCrisette · 14/05/2025 18:47

She got through it, though, and so nice that the worst one is out of the way! Well done to her!

Brienneoftarthismyhero · 14/05/2025 18:56

Can I join too 🙃 dd had English lit today texted to say went well but now home she’s over thinking it! Ahh / she had geography yesterday and that went well but it is her favourite subject and what she will be studying at uni. I only have one child so this is hitting my harder than I expected….the end of school….where has time gone?!

out of curiosity, do any of your schools offer study leave? Dd hasn’t got any but I told her if she needs a day off I will let her have a mental health day. We did this for GCSE’s

Changes17 · 14/05/2025 19:11

Great that she did it, @Fluffycloudsfloatinginthesky - she’s got the worst one done so it’s downhill from here.

@Brienneoftarthismyhero Study leave starts on Monday for DS

Fluffycloudsfloatinginthesky · 14/05/2025 19:31

@Brienneoftarthismyheroour school don’t and they are very clear you need to be in for lessons until after last exam in that subject. However there are significant numbers missing in class.

Fluffycloudsfloatinginthesky · 14/05/2025 19:35

@BonjourCrisette@Changes17

i told her I was so proud of her for pushing through. I think she knew if she gave in to the rest break she wouldn’t come back. that was my worry too. I think she spent most of the morning in tears, her friends supported her and another friend that was also really anxious about it.

BonjourCrisette · 14/05/2025 20:23

That sounds like a great group of friends. She did so well.

DD has study leave and finished school proper a week ago. In fact, though, she is going into school for a full day most days because there is lots of space to work, she gets free coffee and lunch, and lots of her friends are also working at school so plenty of people to do stuff with (write essay plans, test each other, discuss whatever).

jamimmi · 14/05/2025 20:47

@Fluffycloudsfloatinginthesky well done dd, let's hope it makes things a bit easier now that's over, sounds like she is a great person to have such supportive friends.

@NCTDN Biology, chemistry & maths, so no physics hence 4th June start! Study leave after half term but lots on collage mock tests in fullness conditions currently

TheTurn0fTheScrew · 14/05/2025 20:48

@Fluffycloudsfloatinginthesky so pleased that your DC made it to her exam.

Hope all is going ok for the others sitting exams this week.

@Brienneoftarthismyhero my DC has been on study leave since Tuesday. College rather than school though. No exams here until 3rd June, although 60% of music and 30% of Spanish were completed prior to exam season proper starting.

jamimmi · 14/05/2025 20:48

*full,! Love predictive txt

NCTDN · 14/05/2025 20:51

Has everybody completed the student finance application if planning on uni and in England?

PennywisePoundFoolish · 14/05/2025 22:05

@Fluffycloudsfloatinginthesky Well done to DD getting through the exam, I hope it's given her a boost for the rest.

DS2 starts study leave officially from 3rd June but he's only ever gone in for lessons and has a lot of free periods because he dropped a subject early on. His 1st exam is the 20th, he's doing maths, FM and biology.

I've cocked up completed my part of Student finance. DS2 is also applying for DSA so I've had to dig out his diagnosis reports etc. Bit concerned they won't be recent and/or detailed enough but hopefully enough to get an assessment. Though he'll probably say he's fine and needs no help Hmm

He looks exhausted tonight after only 2 hours at school today. I'm hoping he isn't crashing from stopping his antidepressants a couple of months ago.

DC1s SEN placement finishes in August and DC3s special school placement has broken down, so I'm feeling a bit stretched atm.

Brienneoftarthismyhero · 14/05/2025 22:13

@NCTDN We did student finance in May and came back really quickly.

Interesting about study leave in other schools and colleges. DDs 6th form is next to the comp and they share some of the buildings and it’s loud and busy so she prefers to study at home. She doesn’t get much from going in now hence I’ve told her she can have time off if she needs to. She is very good at studying on her own at home

Brienneoftarthismyhero · 14/05/2025 22:14

@Fluffycloudsfloatinginthesky well done to your DD 👏

Ds has applied for DSA and his diagnosis letters are from 2013 and 2014 (dyspraxia and autism respectively). He’s had a response to say he’s been accepted for it and has his needs assessment appointment in half term

Fluffycloudsfloatinginthesky · 15/05/2025 05:24

Thanks everyone for the support. I think it’s taught me that you cannot take anything for granted - this all came on in last 3/4 weeks. Only 6 weeks ago I was thinking we were in a great position as her required grades were so much lower than predicted and she would have to have a disaster not to get them….

mumonthehill · 15/05/2025 05:45

@Fluffycloudsfloatinginthesky so glad she managed it, so brave of her. Ds chose not to go into school yesterday as he said he only had Biology and is finding revision at home better. So for the last time I called in a dc as sick! He has a full day today then that is it. After 20 years i will not have a dc at school!!
