1000 replies

OrangeCinnamonCroissant · 07/07/2022 11:57

This is a thread for supporting all young people post GCSEs 2020, regardless of their educational setting. It is respectfully requested that all are supportive and helpful to each other. If you want to start a debate, e.g state vs private, please don't within this thread. Please also be sensitive when responding to threads about grades. It's all relative!
Some of us have been here since first thread back in yr10, some will be new. Everyone has been friendly and helpful in the past. Everyone is welcome. It is hoped this will continue.
Our DS/DD may continue down various pathways ( employment, apprenticeships, higher ed) We have decided for anyone interested they will find a thread within the Further Ed board.
Possibly a move to Parent of Adult Children Board in future? Post Results?

Ohhhh @CinnamonOrangeCremeBrulee you have brought back wonderful memories of living a stone's throw from Place Flagey and the fabulous Frit Flagey. Happy days, (don't shop me to the Low Carb Bootcamp thread I'm also on )...

Benjispruce4 · 09/08/2022 19:41

Yes to ketchup AND mayo AND curry sauce!
Ot was a trip to Amsterdam that got me into mayo on chips. Actually because of the Indonesian influence there, they also had satay sauce on chips. Now that was amazing!

EquallyDivided · 09/08/2022 19:45

We went on a family holiday to Belgium and The Netherlands when I was about 10, that's what got me started on the mayo witj frites. I also LOVE salad cream with chips. But it has to be tartare sauce in a fish finger sandwich (I mix capers into mayo). Hate brown sauce though.

Benjispruce4 · 09/08/2022 19:49

Oh absolutely a good tartar sauce on a fish or fish finger sandwich. I also dislike brown sauce. DH once made me a lovely pulled pork wrap with what he thought was BBQ sauce….. yes you guessed it, one mouthful and I nearly spat it out! Brown sauce !!! 🤮

Delphigirl · 09/08/2022 19:56

Oh, oblomov. I am disappointed.

salad cream tastes like someone vomited into a vat of mayo and then just mixed it in, hoping nobody would notice.
and it’s the only explanation for the lumps…

A la Heinz sandwich spread? 😱

Seeline · 09/08/2022 20:11

I fear I am a little odd.

I have salt on my chips, salad cream on salad, and brown sauce with fish fingers. I'll have tartare sauce if having fish/chips at the pub.

Sorry

Oblomov22 · 09/08/2022 18:43

Proggy it has to be salad cream on a fish finger sandwich.

And you usually say such sensible things!

Mayo here too.

crazycrofter · 09/08/2022 21:00

Brown sauce is perfect on a sausage sandwich though - but anywhere else it’s out of place. Hence bottles of brown sauce last me about 10 years!

I’ll take mayo or curry sauce or ketchup with chips - they’re all good, but not together! Fish has to go with tartare sauce.

If I’m eating chip shop chips they have to be battered orange ones from a Black Country chippy - they’re amazing!

EquallyDivided · 09/08/2022 21:23

Once many years ago I had gone to stay with a friend for a party, sleeping on their floor. It was a great night and we were all "very tired" the next morning. The friend asked if anyone would like a bacon sandwich and we all said yes please as we were starving. To my utter horror when I bit into it she had put brown sauce in. I had to force it down to be polite. I need to go and post on that thread about worst thing you've been served at someone's house.

icanbewhatiwant · 09/08/2022 21:37

I like curry sauce on chip shop chips. But I can imagine if you know how to make a good curry then the chip shop sauce is probably rubbish. It reminds me of mushy peas. But I am also happy with just salt and vinegar. We have a chip van that stops in the village on a Friday...I like to have them occasionally, but the dc's won't eat them. So I still have to cook them dinner.

Possibly a bit premature but i've added a new thread for when we are ready
New Thread

Seems I wasn't so premature since we got onto chips !

Oh, do I mean sandwich spread? Yes I think I do. Salad cream has the bile taste without the lumps, yes?

Ooh yes especially a Lincolnshire or Cumberland Sausage or Black Pudding mmmm ! Only HP for me. When I was a kid I used to dip lamb cutlets into it.

EwwSprouts · 09/08/2022 21:57

Chips with chip spice or just salt or at a push curry sauce.
Ketchup on fish finger butty.
Mayonnaise is an abomination!

DS has just asked me to drive him in next Thursday which I will do but then I am in work. I suspect he will change his mind and go with a mate.

Monkey2001 · 09/08/2022 21:58

I can be can't believe your DC don't eat chips, I have always thought that was a safe option for kids. Mine are fussy about different things - we had macaroni cheese today, so I stuck a pasty in the oven for DS1 who is very anti mac'n'cheese. There are not many meals everyone likes, it is much easier when one is away.

Cantonet · 09/08/2022 21:58

Am I the only one who likes Reggae Reggae sauce on my bacon/sausage sandwich. I think it's just brown sauce with extra chilli in it 😊
And yes to thin & crispy chips with Mayo & chopped onion from Rotterdam. DH lived there for two years.
Getting exam agitated here...

EquallyDivided · 09/08/2022 22:10

@icanbewhatiwant and @Monkey2001 my DS won't eat potato in any shape or form whatsoever, including chips. He'll try most things but is almost phobic about potatoes.

EquallyDivided · 09/08/2022 22:11

And yes to there being very few meals that all of us like. Pizza and chilli are the only ones that readily spring to mind.

crazycrofter · 09/08/2022 22:16

I can cook anything when dd is away - she’s the fussy one - so in that respect things will be much easier come Sept! If she doesn’t like what I make she does herself pasta and pesto or something, but if it happens two days in a row she gets a bit huffy and entitled! I’m hoping having to eat halls food will sort that out!

MirandaWest · 09/08/2022 23:01

DS likes mayo on his chips. I like vinegar with chippy chips. I think DD likes ketchup. And DH likes salt

ProggyMat · 09/08/2022 23:44

Delphigirl · 09/08/2022 21:47

Yup 🤮

272Newnames · 09/08/2022 23:54

It has to be Mayo with chips, or my very favourite, I raise you all to Amora mayonnaise de Dijon which is superior by far. A slight hint of mustard. I don’t like mustard usually but this is divine.
