Thread 36 - Covid Cohort from GCSE 2020 - The Final Countdown to Results Day for Some?

1000 replies

CinnamonOrangeCremeBrulee · 09/08/2022 13:40

This is a thread for supporting all young people post GCSEs 2020, regardless of their educational setting. It is respectfully requested that all are supportive and helpful to each other. If you want to start a debate, e.g state vs private, please don't within this thread. Please also be sensitive when responding to threads about grades. It's all relative!
Some of us have been here since first thread back in yr10, some will be new. Everyone has been friendly and helpful in the past. Everyone is welcome. It is hoped this will continue.
Our DS/DD may continue down various pathways ( employment, apprenticeships, higher ed) We have decided for anyone interested they will find a thread within the Further Ed board.
Possibly a move to Parent of Adult Children Board in future? Post Results?

Oblomov22 · 09/08/2022 16:22

Thank you very much Orange.

Zebracat · 09/08/2022 20:03

New thread. Thank you. I will only eat ketchup in hot dogs. I will only eat brown sauce with bubble and squeak. Yes to Mayo with everything else. Death to salad cream. Spent the day haunting Clearing. Feel really nervous.

Isthisjustnormal · 09/08/2022 20:57

Thanks for the new thread. Was also just catching up on the chat earlier today about the low/no alcohol Dc on the thread: interesting to see there are a few, although mine is definitely not coming from the ‘body is a temple’ uber-sporty space of some of your kids ;-).

mummyinbeds · 09/08/2022 21:15

Thanks for the new thread @CinnamonOrangeCremeBrulee

No to mayo, salad cream, ketchup, brown sauce, curry sauce or gravy on my chips. Chips and nothing is just fine 😁

EquallyDivided · 09/08/2022 21:25

Thanks for the new thread @CinnamonOrangeCremeBrulee

ealingwestmum · 09/08/2022 22:25

Thank you Orange. Loving the food diversion to kill another day closer to results :)

Cantonet · 09/08/2022 22:30

Thank you @CinnamonOrangeCremeBrulee for the new thread. DS is another one here who doesn't like the taste of alcohol. Taking after his Dad, not me then, as I come from a family of Irish descent/ drinkers.
Yes, I'm another on exam countdown having done my best to forget about them up until now.

MirandaWest · 09/08/2022 23:04

DS drinks alcohol. Not generally excessively but to a generally merry level or at least that’s what DH says when he picks him up.

Results day is getting closer. I have my own feeling of what DS has got - am wondering whether it will be correct or not…

Monkey2001 · 10/08/2022 00:43

Thanks for the new thread

I think it is normal to remember all the mistakes at this stage and think the worst. Obviously we are all hoping for generous grade boundaries for our DC, but they do need to rein things in as 2021 was just silly.

icanbewhatiwant · 10/08/2022 06:07

@Monkey2001 it's annoying they don't like chip shop chips. Ds2 will have them at a push. They will eat home made chips or occasionally I cook McCain type fries. They all eat McDonald's chips though. Now dh wouldn't eat mac n cheese. He hates pasta.

@EquallyDivided my younger 2 won't eat big roast potatoes they have to be tiny, nor boiled, mashed or new potatoes.

I don't get all this "won't eat" I ate anything as a child. We had friends found, they ate what was for dinner. When mine used to go to friends houses for tea there was always the what will they eat conversation and vice versa. I swore I'd never have fussy kids. That didn't happen.

icanbewhatiwant · 10/08/2022 06:08

I tried to post that on the last threads...I'm amazed it actually popped onto this one when I tried.

Heifer · 10/08/2022 06:11

Thanks for the new thread,

I can cook anything when dd is away - she’s the fussy one - so in that respect things will be much easier come Sept! If she doesn’t like what I make she does herself pasta and pesto or something, but if it happens two days in a row she gets a bit huffy and entitled! I’m hoping having to eat halls food will sort that out!

SNAP exactly - I could have written that word for word! Re booze, my DD does drink often but I've never seen her really drunk, although I'm sure she has been.

She has just left for Board Masters down in Newquay, going on coach from Manchester so had to leave here at 5.00am!! At 4.45am I woke her up as her alarm didn't go off apparently (just as well I set mine).

Re sauces - Chips & bacon sandwich both have to have ketchup & Mayo, brown sauce with sausages.

Had a fantastic 3 days at the Commonwealth games with DD, really enjoyed her company although she was a bit grumpy first thing each morning as early start. She really enjoyed it though so glad we went.

DD surprised me by saying she wanted to go out for a nice lunch with DH and me on results day - I assumed she would want to be with friends, so I have cancelled DHs clients for the day so he is now free too (I was always off). I assume she will see her school friend again in the afternoon but wants to go hockey training 7.00-8.30pm then will go off clubbing in Liverpool later that night. She is expecting a lot of Y13s from the Wirral to be at the same club apparently. I'm guessing she will then stay there until the 1st train home at 6.00am... This is obviously assuming all goes well.

Do we have any Scottish students on here? If so I hope they got the results they needed yesterday.

Volterra · 10/08/2022 06:15

@CinnamonOrangeCremeBrulee thank you for the new thread. DS is another who doesn’t like the taste of alcohol.

BlueMarigold · 10/08/2022 06:36

Thank you for the new thread @CinnamonOrangeCremeBrulee

I like the name. I have taken the 18th off work. Feeling very nervous now.

Decorhate · 10/08/2022 06:47

Thanks for the new thread!

KingscoteStaff · 10/08/2022 07:24

8 days to go….

HarrietDVane · 10/08/2022 07:28

Getting nervous now! DD is also on edge so we are just trying to keep busy. I hope any DC taking Scottish exams have received the results they need.

ealingwestmum · 10/08/2022 07:34

DD’s plans are exactly the same as yours Heifer. Well except for the hockey training !

mango0 · 10/08/2022 07:43

Morning all. A final countdown to results thread! I'm starting to feel quite sick when I think about it. We're busy every day between now and then so hopefully I can stopy mind from gojng there too frequently!

We don't really have any plans for results day, partly because we have no idea if the allocated time for DD to chose her accommodation will be on that day (or not, and if not what happens if she's not available during her allocated time) she's going to email Birmingham today so hopefully all will become clear soon.

Dd has her first shift at her first job today, Subway, and a couple of others booked in this week and next. I don't think it's going to be a great earner but every little helps. I can't wait tk hear how she finds it.

Benjispruce4 · 10/08/2022 08:07

Thanks for new thread. I have no idea what to think about DD’s grades. DD1 was always a sure bet. DD2 needs ABB. Jan mocks were BBB, March assessment was AAC, current grade before real exams were AAB. English coursework was A*, history coursework was C. It’s the historic that’s worryingly me. She needs a B and I’m not sure if she’s done enough. She hated it and has always struggled whereas the other two subject she seemed to have a better understanding of. Will York accept AAC if the A is in her degree subject? Currently they are saying they have limited clearing spaces. I just don’t know what to think! Anyway that’s what my brain is doing right now.

icanbewhatiwant · 10/08/2022 08:18

Some of you have booked a day off work and there's us going on holiday leaving Ds to it. I didn't think of results when I booked the holiday last year. I'm sure he will be fine though. He needs ABC he got distinction star in business exam but needs his coursework grade adding to that, so hasn't been given the final grade, but it should the same. So I think that will be the A grade. Ds1 needed ABB he got distinction star in business then BB so the business counted as the needed A grade. Ds2 has mostly had B's with a a few A's in History and RS/ethics/philosophy. So hoping he will be ok. Insurance is 112 points which is even lower. But I don't think he wants to go there. We know nothing about the university, he only chose it because it had low grades.
