Thread 35 - Covid Cohort from GCSE 2020 'What They Did on Their Summer Holidays'

1000 replies

OrangeCinnamonCroissant · 07/07/2022 11:57

This is a thread for supporting all young people post GCSEs 2020, regardless of their educational setting. It is respectfully requested that all are supportive and helpful to each other. If you want to start a debate, e.g state vs private, please don't within this thread. Please also be sensitive when responding to threads about grades. It's all relative!
Some of us have been here since first thread back in yr10, some will be new. Everyone has been friendly and helpful in the past. Everyone is welcome. It is hoped this will continue.
Our DS/DD may continue down various pathways ( employment, apprenticeships, higher ed) We have decided for anyone interested they will find a thread within the Further Ed board.
Possibly a move to Parent of Adult Children Board in future? Post Results?

Good news @EspeciallyDeIighted . Hope today’s trip alleviates your worries @Volterra

Volterra · 09/07/2022 08:33

Any news on your move @crazycrofter ?

Benjispruce4 · 09/07/2022 08:38

Congratulations to your DS @icanbewhatiwant , great result.

Monkey2001 · 09/07/2022 09:27

Good news ED, have a great evening, hope it doesn't get too emotional!

crazycrofter · 09/07/2022 09:29

Nothing much to report @Volterra . it looks like we’re nearly ready to exchange on our current house. Their solicitor has advised them to have another viewing first though so I need to tidy up 😂Hopefully completing end of August and living somewhere as yet undecided between Sept and Nov!

Volterra · 09/07/2022 09:34

That all sounds very promising albeit a bit stressful about the Sept to November part! We’ll have to tidy up if another viewing, they have had 3 so far. Still no mortgage offer though and I am very twitchy

Heifer · 09/07/2022 12:05

@Piggywaspushed did your DS enjoy his prom? lol at 12 mins to get ready - DD couldn't get ready in 12 mins if her clothes were laid out on the bed and hair and makeup already done :-)

DD was home less than 24 hrs when she went off camping for the weekend with another friend to Anglesey. She took some of our camping gear (we have a lot) body boards, walking boots and snorkelling gear and off they went. I love that. Really wish I could be that free - flippin problem dog stops us being able to go away at all at the moment but that's another story... From her insta account it looks like they had pizza on the beach last night, and it looked gorgeous (beach not pizza)...

Great news you can go to the ball (well DS's school event) @EspeciallyDeIighted don't forget to take your tissues..

Only 40 days to go ...... ;-)

Heifer · 09/07/2022 12:06

oh and good luck to those moving - fingers crossed it's hassle free.

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 09/07/2022 12:17

All I’m hearing about at the moment is people getting COVID. I’m on holiday for the first time in three years next weekend and I’m going to be so upset if I get Covid before that.

Piggywaspushed · 09/07/2022 12:37

DS seemed to think prom was fine. Food ( main event for him!) was a bit crap but his suit was admired.

He was back by 11!

crazycrofter · 09/07/2022 12:45

@heifer dd is the same with getting ready. If I call up to her as we’re waiting to go out, she invariably says ‘I’m just getting dressed.’ To me that means, I’ll be with you in 2 minutes max. If dd says it, it means she’ll be at least another 15 minutes.. and this is when she’s already done her make up. I don’t get what she’s doing?!!

@Piggywaspushed 11pm 😮😂 Did he leave early?!

Really hope you don’t get covid @JustHereWithMyPopcorn . Dd and ds are off to their Christian camp next Saturday, it’s their favourite week of the year and hasn’t run for the last two summers. They would be devastated to miss it so I’m hoping we avoid covid too.

Piggywaspushed · 09/07/2022 13:46

It finished at 11 so I think thry left about 10.40. Not sure much was going on!

PaddingtonPaddington · 09/07/2022 14:07

Thanks for the new thread @OrangeCinnamonCroissant

so much good news, driving test pass, IB results and acceptances!

We've been away finally for the first time in 2.5 years, much needed and feeling a bit more human again. DD had a good break from it all, including her violin which I refused to buy a seat on the plane for!

Whilst away DD got her allocated room in halls including block, floor and room number, flatmates contact details and we’ve paid the deposit and signed the guarantor agreement. All seems suddenly a bit more real. She’s got a meeting with student services next week and the DSA computer training second session. She’s got her singing exam too and has 2 concerts so another busy week ahead.

Benjispruce4 · 09/07/2022 15:02

DD’s prom is on Thursday and that ends at 11pm too.
DD has been having bad dreams about A level results and dreams about sitting in the exam having done no revision.

crazycrofter · 09/07/2022 15:46

I had one of those dreams a few nights ago @Benjispruce4 ! It was an English Lit exam and I hadn’t read the books!

After next week dd is away at various different places until 11th August, so I’m hoping she’ll totally forget about results in all the excitement. Then it’s only a week to wait when she gets back, and one of those days is ds’ birthday. I was looking at the summer projects which have been set by ds’ intended sixth form. There’s so much work to do! He’s not even making a decision about subjects til results day so I hope he’ll knuckle down that final week of the holidays (our house moving week 😬)

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 09/07/2022 16:43

@crazycrofter fingers crossed your dcs don’t get it either. 🤞🏻

I also get those anxiety dreams they’re either not revised for my maths A level or haven”t finished university and have to do a pin up/crit on a final project that I have done literally no work for. 😱

Glad that everyone has enjoyed their proms, so nice to hear of the normal things happening for them.

I topped up DS’s data as requested, he’s already used almost 2GB despite promising to turn off the data roaming and not stream. 🤔

Piggywaspushed · 09/07/2022 17:08

Also trying to avoid Covid here. DS has driving test on Friday . I am eyeing DH with deep suspicion as he keeps sniffing and spluttering.

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 09/07/2022 17:13

Oh no @Piggywaspushed lock him in a spare room if you have one!

ProggyMat · 09/07/2022 17:19

Thankfully no dreams about sitting exams for me but I’m watching Shirley Valentine whilst DD is holidaying on a Greek Island!

Benjispruce4 · 09/07/2022 18:12

Ha ha @ProggyMat i just saw a bit of that. Pauline Collins looked great!

ProggyMat · 09/07/2022 18:37

@Benjispruce4 she did indeed and it’s an absolutely belta of a film! 😊
For me, it was quite scary as the screenplay let alone the release of the film was after I was holidaying on a Greek island.
Quite a juxtaposition!

Benjispruce4 · 09/07/2022 18:57

It felt a bit unsettling to be watching it now, as a middle aged(if I live to 102) woman as opposed to a teenager.

Benjispruce4 · 09/07/2022 18:58

I really fancy chips n egg now though. 😂It sounds so much better than egg and chips!

ProggyMat · 09/07/2022 19:32

Really @Benjispruce4 - chips and egg? 😱😱
Surely it’s egg and chips up North?

Oblomov22 · 09/07/2022 19:36

Laughing at Pauline Collins.
