Thread 28 - Corona Cohort Awaiting Offers, Advance Notice, Gap Years and New Jobs

OrangeCinnamonCroissant · 07/02/2022 19:35

This is a thread for supporting all young people post GCSEs 2020, regardless of their educational setting. It is respectfully requested that all are supportive and helpful to each other. If you want to start a debate, e.g state vs private, please don't within this thread. Please also be sensitive when responding to threads about grades.

Some of us have been here since first thread back in yr10, some will be new. Everyone has been friendly and helpful in the past. Everyone is welcome. It is hoped this will continue.

Our DS/DD may go down various paths (such as employment, apprenticeships, higher ed) We have decided for anyone interested they will most likely find us within the Further Ed board.

@Fruitygal that's interesting about the newer covid symptoms. DH is convinced he and ds3 have just had covid. DH had a headache all day last week, he said he felt tired and wanted to sleep. Then a few days later ds3 had his headache. I did have a headache one of the days, but I get a lot of headaches so didn't think anything of it. But dh did LFT's on 4 days, Ds3 has done 5 tests in 6 days. I've been testing each work day since last weds. Ds2 has tested twice weekly. All negative using the throat swab tests. I can't see that we'd have it and all test negative.

icanbewhatiwant · 08/02/2022 19:07

@Piggywaspushed 24th March is the date self isolation is to end. I remember the date as it's ds3's birthday. Is that what you meant by not being announced?

OrangeCinnamonCroissant · 08/02/2022 19:08

@Piggywaspushed not sure if you saw my post on the other thread. I've just been shouted at for asking Dd if she was sure her exam board was NOT OCR (I could have sworn it was when we looked around the college), apparently it's Eduqaas which might explain her displeasure....

Yeah, just meant not confirmed yet. They may have to backpedal yet...
Piggywaspushed · 08/02/2022 19:10

Yes, Eduqas is nigh on useless! Basically printed out spec again!

Could be worse, Could be AQA...

whoamitojudge · 08/02/2022 19:29

Hi sorry for my absence but I’ve had so much happening recently.
DD is still living her dream as cabin crew and has now found a house share near the airport so I guess you could say that DH are empty nesters ( it’s a strange feeling for sure) She’s becoming more independent and finding her feet with each day and DH and I are so proud of her.
I will catch up with all your news very soon and thank you @Orange for including me

Monkey2001 · 08/02/2022 19:44

Medics sitting here with no offers and just hoping we will hear something before the end of March watching the offer progress with a wry smile........

Fferny1 · 08/02/2022 20:02

@Monkey, I feel for you. Dd1 was in the same position 4 years ago for Vet
Medicine. You will succeed & get an offer.

Nard75 · 08/02/2022 20:11

Just a quick question for those of you whose DC have submitted firm and insurance. Do you get an email from UCAS to confirm you have done this.

ZittiEBuoni · 08/02/2022 20:14

Thanks for the new thread OrangeCinnamonCroissant. Not much to contribute since we're not applying this year. Gearing up for mocks after half term and working on getting NEAs finished for English and Film.

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 08/02/2022 20:33

I’m sorry @Monkey2001 I’m moaning about not hearing from everyone while you’re still waiting to hear anything, that must be awful, keeping fingers crossed that you get good news soon.

DS has already had his results back, PCR is negative. Must just be a general winter virus.

Wheresthebeach · 08/02/2022 20:39

@Monkey2001 What a pain...hope you hear soon. Must be exhausting.

Just glad its just winter virus. DD the same, sleeping and shattered but every LFT is negative and no cough, sore throat or anything. Just utterly wiped out.

Lovely to read your update @whoamitojudge. Sounds like it's everything she ever dreamed of.

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 08/02/2022 20:44

Yep, exhausted, headache, achey,, he has had a sore throat on and off but had two VERY late nights on Friday and Saturday and hardly any sleep so I suspect it’s made him a bit run down.

Fruitygal · 08/02/2022 20:47

@Piggywaspushed I agree - most people feel under the weather with it - your performance would definitely be impaired as you need to be feeling well to write for 2.5hrs. I feel for teachers - my DD continues in a mask in class and on the bus - her choice as she says I don’t want to miss school or mess up my exams due to covid and she wants to go to parties/gigs so this is her compromise.

Fruitygal · 08/02/2022 20:49

BTW use the swab on the throat - often picks up the virus where the nose swabbing doesn’t

Piggywaspushed · 08/02/2022 20:50

Yeah, my views are maybe a bit coloured by having 4 department colleagues off with Covid...

Alsoplayspiccolo · 08/02/2022 20:53

Lovely to hear your DD’s update, whoami. She sounds like she was born to it! Hope the house share goes well.

EwwSprouts · 08/02/2022 20:54

Wow I am late to the thread. Thanks @OrangeCinnamonCroissant. Now to read it.

Fiddlersgreen · 08/02/2022 21:04

@whoamitojudge that’s great she’s doing so well! It seems to have all happened so quickly, must feel very odd for you at home

icanbewhatiwant · 08/02/2022 21:17

@Nard75 I posted this question earlier in the thread, with pics of ds's ucas page (I sneaked a look without telling him) he's not had a confirmation email.

PaddingtonPaddington · 08/02/2022 21:19

@Monkey2001sending positive MN vibes for an offer soon

DD still wearing a mask all day at school. So many teachers and pupils off with covid though cases are starting to decline.

EwwSprouts · 08/02/2022 21:20

Great to see more offers coming in. @whoamitojudge Keep posting, it's lovely to hear she is doing so well.

Sorry the buses are still in the depot but some will come along! @Monkey2001

Hopefully those testing positive or with colds will feel better quickly.

DS has not paid any attention to yesterday's announcements as he has his first mock tomorrow. He had his head down studying at last. Saturday and Sunday were both filled with sport...

PaddingtonPaddington · 08/02/2022 21:23

@Nard75 DD didn’t get an email when she firmed, just the update in the UCAS hub changed to ‘Waiting for Confirmation’

icanbewhatiwant · 08/02/2022 21:35

Yes masks at our school still too. We had an email saying they no longer needed to wear them while seated in classrooms. But apparently everyone still wears them all the time indoors.

Ds said his RS exam content has been reduced, but he says the easier stuff has gone. Whatever easier stuff means.
