Thread 27 Covid Cohort Snow or Like Spring? Let's Do This Thing!

OrangeCinnamonCocktail · 21/01/2022 14:21

This is a thread for supporting all young people post GCSEs 2020, regardless of their educational setting. It is respectfully requested that all are supportive and helpful to each other. If you want to start a debate, e.g state vs private, please don't within this thread. Please also be sensitive when responding to threads about grades.

Some of us have been here since first thread back in yr10, some will be new. Everyone has been friendly and helpful in the past. Everyone is welcome. It is hoped this will continue.

Our DS/DD may go down various paths (such as employment, apprenticeships, higher ed) We have decided for anyone interested they will most likely find us within the Further Ed board.

Yay!

ealingwestmum · 27/01/2022 19:43

Fabulous news Piccolo. Sounds like it’s come at a perfect time.

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 27/01/2022 19:48

That’s fab news @Alsoplayspiccolo!

sofakingcool · 27/01/2022 19:52

@Alsoplayspiccolo

Fab news here, after a long wait - DD has an offer from RHUL for liberal arts, for ABB (down from AAB). She's chuffed, after feeling really despondent this week.
Fab news!
Isthisjustnormal · 27/01/2022 19:56

Great news @Alsoplayspiccolo: bet that’s gIven your Dd such a lift :-)

A question to the knowledge of the thread. Ds has had his EPQ result back and did really well and got an A*. Are we able to add that into ucas? Or is it worth emailing his unis to let them know? Or (more likely!) will they not care?!?

EwwSprouts · 27/01/2022 19:57

@Alsoplayspiccolo Super update!

Fonty · 27/01/2022 19:59

Great news for her Piccolo! Good to hear of some offers coming through again.

I don't know the answer about adding to Ucas but I think it depends on the Uni as to whether they'll count it?

Well done to your son though! A* is brilliant!

crazycrofter · 27/01/2022 20:12

Brilliant news @Alsoplayspiccolo!

KingscoteStaff · 27/01/2022 20:19

That’s great piccolo - well done her.

Wheresthebeach · 27/01/2022 20:42

Wonderful @Alsoplayspiccolo

ProggyMat · 27/01/2022 20:51

Whoop well done to @Alsoplayspiccolo DD!
Is anyone else thinking - despite what’s gone on- how quickly the years between Yr10 and Yr13 appear to have ‘quickly flown’ ?

singingstones · 27/01/2022 20:56

Great news Also, congrats to your DD. Hopefully the others will turn up too before long but that's a great offer from RHUL.

Monkey2001 · 27/01/2022 20:56

Well done to DC of @Alsoplayspiccolo and @Isthisjustnormal

I don't think you update UCAS, don't think it would affect whether he gets offers, but means that if he had offers which are lower with an A/A* in EPQ - maybe look at the websites of the ones he is waiting for? School will obviously know better

22Newnames · 27/01/2022 20:58

Great news @Alsoplayspiccolo and well done @Isthisjustnormal

Well done to your DS! I believe you can add it as it's a qualification which has a UCAS points value. I'm pretty sure my DS did as he got an offer from Birmingham reduced because of the grade.
JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 27/01/2022 21:13

That said he already had his grade before he applied so now not sure if you can add it after you've applied?

sofakingcool · 27/01/2022 21:25

I think these last two years have absolutely flown by
singingstones · 27/01/2022 21:38

I keep seeing 18th birthday photos on Facebook of children i've hardly seen since the end of Y6 party, absolutely mind boggling where that time has gone.

Hurrah! So pleased @Alsoplayspiccolo
Delphigirl · 27/01/2022 22:04

That’s a great result @Isthisjustnormal. I don’t know the answer but I think it would be beneficial for unis to know as they may either reduce the offer or take it into account on results day if he misses his grades. Maybe phone ucas and ask?

Alsoplayspiccolo · 27/01/2022 22:06

Thank you all for your congratulations Smile

Well done to your DS, Isthisjustnormal - fantastic result for his EPQ!

I’m another one who thinks the last 2 years has passed in the blink of an eye. Scary to think how fast the uni years will fly by Confused

ExtremelyDetermined · 27/01/2022 22:15

Evening all,

Yes to this time just flying by, DS is feeling that way too, he phoned me this evening (boarding) and said he can't believe it's nearly half term already - theirs is early this year. He doesn't want to leave his school. He is also feeling under pressure, school have announced another set of mocks in March plus he has masses of BTEC coursework in the next couple of weeks, both his courses have deadlines at the same time, which happened once in y12 and wasn't fun. Sport helps him too, especially the hockey.

DD (y11) got good mock grades and a good parents evening, she's been told to relax a little for the next couple of weeks as things will ramp up again straight after half term.

ealingwestmum · 27/01/2022 23:05

Well done on your DS’s EPQ result Isthisjustnormal, hope you find a way to adding it to his official transcript.
