I tried to sing the title... It kind of works...

This is a thread for supporting all young people post GCSEs 2020, regardless of their educational setting. It is respectfully requested that all are supportive and helpful to each other. If you want to start a debate, e.g state vs private, please don't within this thread. Please also be sensitive when responding to posts about grades.

Some of us have been here since first thread back in yr10, some will be new. Everyone has been friendly and helpful in the past. Everyone is welcome. It is hoped this goodwill continues.

Our DS/DD may go down various paths (such as employment, apprenticeships, higher ed) We have decided for anyone interested they will most likely find us within the Further Ed board.

@OrangeCinnamonCocktail

Oh *@DoggerelBank* that is funny...I'm sorry Grin At least, as you say, it is the last one.
Exactly this! Pls don’t worry, I am sure they’ve heard worse
Wheresthebeach · 09/12/2021 19:21

Congrats and good luck to all those doing interviews and auditions. The added stress musts be something!

@DoggerelBank - OMG - that's hilarious...I'm sure your not the first, or only parents to get caught out.

icanbewhatiwant · 09/12/2021 19:21

@DoggerelBank sorry...but that is funny.

Delphigirl · 09/12/2021 19:24

Sorry @doggerel but I’m crying with laughter! Nothing like ending your school career with a flourish!! Grin

Monkey2001 · 09/12/2021 19:45

Just wow @DoggerelBank, I hope the teachers were entertained too!!

cariadambyth · 09/12/2021 19:50

Oh @DoggerelBank, that has made me laugh more than I have done all day. You’ve certainly gone out on a high!

mummyinbeds · 09/12/2021 20:05

That's so funny @Doggerelbank

The opposite happened to us at DD's parents evening last night. Our appointment finished early so DD turned our camera and mic off. Teacher didn't. We sat sniggering while he shuffled around, had a scratch and stared at his screen. Luckily for him, he didn't speak or pick his nose 🤣

Alsoplayspiccolo · 09/12/2021 20:31

I’m laughing too! That’s exactly the sort of thing that would happen to me, except I’d almost certainly say something much more embarrassing Blush
DD has an online lesson where the (male) teacher forgot to mute himself when he went off to the toilet…

Volterra · 09/12/2021 20:37

Oh dear Doggerelbank , a grand exit indeed, sorry but I’m laughing too. Our first one went a little wrong this evening, DH discovered belatedly that TEAMs was deleted in a recent iPad update, DS who had sent us the invites pretty late on obviously started to worry at our non appearance and started sending me invites instead but I found same had happened (DS was in his room in school).

Got it going a minute late, apologised for tech problems then I shuffled closer to DH to get on camera. Dog then got jealous and tried to get in on the act trying to get between us - luckily off camera. Just moved her when my phone which I had stupidly not muted started ringing. I tried to drop the call but it wouldn’t shut up . DH is trying to quietly say slide the button as I was frantically jabbing it so had to give it to him , by which time it had stopped ringing, all the time trying to keep it off camera and look like nothing was happening . Second one went smoothly thank goodness !

icanbewhatiwant · 09/12/2021 22:46

I asked Ds earlier if his ucas application had been submitted back to school as he was finishing last night. He said yes. I asked about payment. He said he paid.

He's now just asked if I can pay tomorrow so he can get it sent off. I don't know why he can't just talk straight with me. Anyway...I told him I'm leaving for work at 8.45 if he's up and has it ready before then I'll get onto it, otherwise he will have to wait until I get home at 2.30pm. He won't be up. I'm sure of that. But it sounds like we are nearly there. I wonder how long it will be after him submitting it, to school sending it off. They are sending them as they get them (as in no set date, some have gone off, others haven't)

20newnames · 09/12/2021 23:03

OMG @DoggerelBank, I’m so sorry but that made me chuckle Grin. At least it’s your last one.

We had parents evening last week and I hadn’t really thought about it being the last one. We have never had a real one at DS’s current school as he changed for sixth form.

Isthisjustnormal · 09/12/2021 23:26

Just checking in as ds is another Cambridge interviewee tomorrow, so I need the Power of The Thread behind him too ;-) He's various various little pieces of stuff going well over the last few days, so seems in a good space. He's never going to shine in an interview situation (introverted and autistic!) but he's feeling relatively positive.

@DoggerelBank: that is Brilliant. Dd's HOY is known in this house as 'The Labrador Puppy'. He is a love, but just goes around licking people and wagging, and probably stealing treats ;-) , I dread to think what I could be heard saying about him behind his back ;-)

Shimy · 10/12/2021 00:27

@DoggerelBank You are so busted! GrinGrin

Shimy · 10/12/2021 00:44

Just got back from Xmas dinner at ds’s school. My own faux pas tonight was during conversation with ds’s mates, all standing together looking smart in their uniforms (tie/black trousers&jacket). They all say hello Shimyjr’s mum! etc. One of them (that I haven’t met before) asks where DS has applied to and everyone else chips in about their offers and how they’re so busy etc. I answer the chaps question and then politely ask him where he is applying to or what does he want to do when he leaves?
There’s a short silence, and he says, ‘I’m staff!’, me - Confused
‘I’m a house tutor!
I am Shock then Blush and apologise profusely. I wished the ground would open and swallow me.
He accepts my apology graciously and says it happens all the time because he looks so young. it was funny though when he said he was an old boy and left AGES ago.....in 2012!

Volterra · 10/12/2021 05:56

Good luck to DS today isthisjustnormal

Shimy; that has really made me laugh!

Good to heat more forms going in.

Monkey2001 · 10/12/2021 06:12

@Isthisjustnormal channeling the positive thread vibes for DS.

@Shimy that was funny! I have a friend who used to teach at Cheltenham Ladies College. She was once told off by a colleague for being out of uniform! I think she was early 20s so not quite as old as your teacher last night, but still....

crazycrofter · 10/12/2021 07:30

All the best for today’s interviews!

DoggerelBank · 10/12/2021 07:35

Good luck to everyone for interviews coming up!!!
@Shimy Love it! That sounds like exactly the kind of thing I would do!

estherfrewen · 10/12/2021 07:45

Absolutely hilarious @DoggerelBank! Made DS laugh out loud!

Delphigirl · 10/12/2021 07:48

Love that @shimy! DH did the same to DS1s absurdly young (and very short) looking housemaster a few years ago. The man was about 32 at the time. I like to think he was flattered but I think that is wishful thinking!
Good luck to all interviewees today - they have done so well getting this far. Nerve wracking but I’m sure they will shine!

Alsoplayspiccolo · 10/12/2021 08:11

Good luck to all doing interviews today - may the MN force be with them!

Shimy, that is hilarious!!

Oblomov21 · 10/12/2021 08:17

@DoggerelBank* and @Shimy* have both made me laugh. Classic, ladies.

Good luck interviewees. Loving all this Oxbridge interview stuff. Bet you lot aren't though! Very nerve wracking. Plus the prior checking of all tech, and booking work IT depts to be back ups!

Ds1 had his Christmas lunch yesterday. Christmas jumper day next week.

Alsoplayspiccolo · 10/12/2021 08:19

I am a bit cross this morning.
DD showed me her supposed final draft of her PS last night. It has been looked at multiple times, by multiple teachers, and edited repeatedly, so I was expecting it to be good…

…It wasn’t even coherent. Shock
In worrying about character count, someone (not DD) had edited some parts to make no sense.

I don’t think DD could see the issue, as she’s read it so many times, in so many versions, that she was filling in the gaps until I read it out to her.
She burst into tears. Sad
She feels she hasn’t had the help from school that she needs, and she’s watched all her friends get offers all half term, while she’s struggled to get the form done.
She was really hoping to submit today, so I did my best to sort it, but I can’t see it going until next week now. Angry

ealingwestmum · 10/12/2021 08:26

Best of luck to your DS today Isthisjustnormal!

Zebracat · 10/12/2021 08:26

Everything crossed for the interviewees. We did a virtual Open Day at Royal Holloway this week which was very interesting. The history department were very dynamic, and they seem proud to be diverse and supportive of students. After all the hard work with one application, I’ve now been asked to help with another. It is flattering, but ugh, the work and the diplomacy needed. She is applying for Engineering with foundation, with arts Alevels, so it really isn’t easy and I don’t know anything except , from this thread, that Lincoln may be perfect. What do mechanical engineers do, anyway? I think she might be better off with civil as she loves being outdoors and building things. But I know nothing.
