I tried to sing the title... It kind of works...

This is a thread for supporting all young people post GCSEs 2020, regardless of their educational setting. It is respectfully requested that all are supportive and helpful to each other. If you want to start a debate, e.g state vs private, please don't within this thread. Please also be sensitive when responding to posts about grades.

Some of us have been here since first thread back in yr10, some will be new. Everyone has been friendly and helpful in the past. Everyone is welcome. It is hoped this goodwill continues.

Our DS/DD may go down various paths (such as employment, apprenticeships, higher ed) We have decided for anyone interested they will most likely find us within the Further Ed board.

estherfrewen · 26/11/2021 16:34

Thanks for the new thread

icanbewhatiwant · 26/11/2021 16:54

Great news on all the offers.

crazycrofter · 26/11/2021 16:55

Thanks for the new thread!

ChristopherTracy · 26/11/2021 16:56

ta muchly!

Isthisjustnormal · 26/11/2021 16:57

Thanks for the new thread - and congratulations to @ProggyMat jr for the Oxford interview!

singingstones · 26/11/2021 17:23

Thanks for the new thread Orange, title is great and scans beautifully Grin
If ever this thread needs its own theme tune, there it is.
Well done to Proggy DD and get well soon to those suffering, including Heifer and Cariad.
(Cariad I keep meaning to ask are you in Wales or maybe ex pat Welsh?)
Thank you for the vibes and solidarity with the crying Blush
Hopefully DS's year tutor will be so keen to avoid another embarrassing call from me that he will sort it pronto.

Nard75 · 26/11/2021 17:26

Thanks for the new thread. Congratulations to everyone who is getting interviews. I wish we were at that stage apparently DS has said his PS has been approved by his teacher but I still haven't seen it. 😑

Hopeful201 · 26/11/2021 17:35

Thanks for the new thread. So nice to see so many offers and an Oxford interview for Proggy jnr. My DS has heard nothing, but medicine is tough. Most of his friends have interviews, so he is feeling a bit disheartened. It is tough for them right now.
Covid seems to be running riot again, I know loads of people who are ill, I hope to keep dodging it Smile

Alsoplayspiccolo · 26/11/2021 17:44

Posted congratulations to Proggy at the end of the old thread.

Love the title of this one!

DoggerelBank · 26/11/2021 17:48

@Hopeful201 We were there 3 years ago with medicine (although admittedly not with all the deferrals to contend with). It's a very nerve-racking waiting game, but no news is good news. I remember one morning we were rushing out of the house when DD screamed - loudly. 'Oh no, it's that pesky mouse again,' I thought, and scrambled for the nearest chair (old house, permanent issues with uninvited furry things). It was actually not a mouse but her first interview coming through.
Fingers crossed for him. Hope you get a mouse moment soon.

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 26/11/2021 17:51

Thanks for thread Orange!

Well done Junior Proggy, fab news!

@Singingstones I’d have cried too, have always had unwanted tears when frustrated.

Well wishes to all those poorly with Covid and colds. And congrats to the new offer holders.🎉

I have spent the day doing Black Friday shopping in London and I’m exhausted. Think I’ll stick to online for the rest!

Piggywaspushed · 26/11/2021 17:56

DS just got a Sheffield offer! ABB or BBB if he gets a B in EPQ.

It's nice to have this offer in before his Cambridge interview.

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 26/11/2021 18:09

Fab news Piggy!

Shimy · 26/11/2021 18:12

Wow! I'm copying and pasting this from the previous thread.

This thread has moved with lightning speed so sorry if I don't reply to something tagged to me upthread or I mix up usernames a bit. It's a bit difficult scrolling up and down to see who said what.

@Alsoplayspiccolo Ibz Mo, Unjaded Jade, Eve Bennet, Vee Kativhu & Jack Edwards are all so inspiring. They make me want to go back and do my A'levels & Uni all over again.

@ealingwestmum & @Heifer justhere
grin Enjoy!

@JustHereWithMyPopcorn

@OrangeCinnamonCocktail What a great job you've done updating the list. Thank you.

@crazycrofter The girl in that video must've applied to half a billion unis, I honestly don't know how they choose. I'm also a bit puzzled how one gets into Harvard, Princeton & Cornell but gets rejected from Brown uni? oh well...

@Piggywaspushed I Love Ibz! at first he was irritating but once I got past the overt campness and really listened to what he was saying, I really got into him. He has done so much to encourage diversity at Oxbridge and opened the eyes of many ethnic minority students who otherwise wouldn't have given Oxbridge a second thought. He has also made Oxbridge more 'normal' and made people to think differently i.e 'Bring your seasoning!' and make it diverse, they need YOU here!. His videos on how to study and get the best out of your time at Cambridge & university in general are world class infused with his own unique humour (he is incredibly funny!). He has truly earned all the accolades from Cambridge, financial times, etc.

@ProggyMat I join others in saying well done to your DD. When is her interview?

Shimy · 26/11/2021 18:12

@Piggywaspushed Fab offer there! nicely done.

Seeline · 26/11/2021 18:14

Thanks for the new thread 🙂

Piggywaspushed · 26/11/2021 18:15

Thanks shimy. I may have stopped watching Ibz's videos because I found them a bit self absorbed and whiny, in that he didn't seem to accept responsibility when he didn't do well at things, but he is very engaging. . Will watch a few more...

I love Jack Edwards!

Oblomov21 · 26/11/2021 18:21

Thanks Orange. Love the title.

cariadambyth · 26/11/2021 18:22

Congratulations @proggyMat, how exciting.
@singingstones, yep Welsh family but my Welsh is embarrassingly rubbish these days.
I’m so sorry you cried, it’s really tough isn’t it but hopefully it will move things into action. I could cry tonight, dd came home from a busy week, EPQ presentation, assessments etc and said her RS teacher said she’s not thrilled she’s had all 5 universities make her such quick offers as it’s making her lazy and complacent. I’m so cross on her behalf, she’s only had them a matter of weeks and is working really hard.

BlueMarigold · 26/11/2021 18:25

Thank you for the new thread. Just checking in x

icanbewhatiwant · 26/11/2021 18:29

Ds accidentally messaged me instead of someone else. All the message said was Hertfordshire university. I wonder if he's looking into it. I don't think it's a well known university or whether it's any good, it's 90th on the guardian league table. I think he was probably looking at the lower grade requirement. Let's hope he gets a good offer from Sussex (when he eventually sends the application off)

Shimy · 26/11/2021 18:42

@Piggywaspushed

Thanks shimy. I may have stopped watching Ibz's videos because I found them a bit self absorbed and whiny, in that he didn't seem to accept responsibility when he didn't do well at things, but he is very engaging. . Will watch a few more...

I love Jack Edwards!

But there's a lesson to be learnt every time he 'whined' about something. He ask for his A'level result in one subject to be remarked and he got the A he needed. When he graduated with a 2.2 he did a video about how he had lost marks due to his dissertation re: topic . Cambs had initially said his topic was okay but then did a u-turn and said it was not in the recommended subject area (after he had submitted) even though he submitted an article from his dissertation dissertation & it was published and commended by the Financial times. He appealed it where many had told him to just accept the 2.2 and move on (as no one had ever appealed and won). He appealed and got his classification overturned to a 2.1. He did those videos to encourage students to speak up and fight against academic injustice and unfairness.

I also love that they are all friends( IM, JE, Jade, Vee, Eve) and always mention each other's successes and compliment each other. It's quite sweet.

cariadambyth · 26/11/2021 18:44

Oh @OrangeCinnamonCocktail, I didn’t even thank you for the new thread before launching into my ‘me, me, me’ post, I am sorry. I do hope you’re ok, I imagine you are feeling in a state of stressful limbo at the moment.

Monkey2001 · 26/11/2021 18:47

I have been away for 1 day, so much news!

Thanks for new thread @OrangeCinnamonCocktail and title is great @singingstones as is updated list.

@cariadambyth she should go where she wants to go, Russell Group doesn't matter, it is more relevant for post grad. Bath and St Andrews aren't RG but are top universities. The only things I would say about RHU are that there are a lot of Londoners who go home at weekends and it used to be very female.

I am a crier too in moments of stress and I HATE it, so difficult to communicate and looks so weak. But in a parent situation with a male teacher it may be quite effective!
