Just noticed we were running out of thread!

Unifrog is brilliant - but they should have had it at least before the open days got under way! Better late than never I suppose.

TheSecondOfHerName · 05/07/2017 18:54

DS1 doesn't finish until 21 July.

According to the school calendar, tomorrow is 'UCAS & Careers Day' for L6, but he and his friends have no idea what that entails.

Despite knowing the date of the 2017 AS results day since last year, I've managed to book our holiday so we don't get back until the following day. Luckily it's only AS, and the school email the results.

Note to self: try to book 2018 holiday so we're actually here for A-level results day (and GCSE results day for DS2).

Icouldbeknitting · 05/07/2017 20:28

TheSecond I've been having kittens over our holiday. I checked the school calendar, noted that college finished before the schools did and decided that we'd get away early before the rush. We booked the holiday and then I started with the self doubt. After waking several times from nightmares where I got the month wrong I have been checking the finish date compulsively. I was convinced that it was going to change and I'd have to write a grovelling letter for term time absence.

starfleet · 05/07/2017 20:32

DS finished today - he goes back at the end of August.

They got their unifrog log in details a few days ago - I agree that it would have been helpful to have a little earlier.

Another open day this weekend at Sheffield and then we are done for a while unless he decides he wants to look at any others.....

FantasyAndHope · 05/07/2017 22:24

Dd finishes tomorrow. She's had a rough week with her eye again Hmm it's leaking again...
She went on a cool trip today to learn about Anglo Saxons and medicine and how it relates to today's medicine and research. Really interesting and good for UCAS.
Dd is ready for a break now she's shattered

PandaG · 05/07/2017 23:09

We don't finish until 21st. Last open day for ds tomorrow, then Head start scheme all week in Leeds next week. Not much looking forward to tomorrow's 4.30 am get up!

arsenicistheanswer · 05/07/2017 23:10

So jealous of those finishing already. We come off on the 21st (me too, I'm term time only). It seems too far away tonight, I could do with them finishing Friday this week!

MsAwesomeDragon · 06/07/2017 07:52

We finish on the 20 th. Except actually, the last week for DD is work experience so she will finish school on the 14th, then work experience on the 21st. It's my last day tomorrow, because I'm on jury service for the last 2 weeks off term.

Dd was given her unifrog login yesterday, which seems rather late. She also did her last mock exam yesterday, which they had all been told was a morning exam, but it was actually an afternoon one so they were all standing around like numpties in the room they were told to be in at 9am, some of them missed lessons twice, once in the morning while they waited for this non existent exam, then again in the afternoon while the actually did the exam. She's mightily pissed off with how these mocks have been organised.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 06/07/2017 08:27

Really feel for all those who have to carry on for another week or two. dd looked shattered this morning. Mind you, she's been letting off steam with friends so some late nights.

She has a ridiculously packed summer with various activities. Not like the teen I was at all!

Iamastonished · 06/07/2017 08:39

DD is on her knees with exhaustion. Mind you she has been packing stuff in as well. She was allowed to drop her 4th subject early because she is clearly overwhelmed by the stress and workload. At least she has an inset day tomorrow.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 06/07/2017 08:55

sounds like they all need a break.

TheDrsDocMartens · 06/07/2017 09:40

Dd1 is ok at the moment. Think there was a bonus to 3 a levels after all. Her EPQ is over the two years too so despite ASs there's not so much pressure on her this year.

NoHaudinMaWheest · 06/07/2017 09:46

Dd finishes tomorrow which is good as her pain and fatigue levels are high. I feel for those with another 2 weeks or more to go.
She is at the local university today with her school on various prep for higher education activities ( I am vague about exactly what).

raspberryrippleicecream · 06/07/2017 16:24

DD is on her knees with coursework, especially Maths which she is hoping to drop anyway.

Martha department wants her to go to a Maths day at Lancaster Uni next week, and feel she is unreasonable for not taking a day out of her Uniq course in Oxford to travel up!

She breaks up on the 21st, but does have her Uniq trip next week and a study day at Newcastle uni the following week.

I break up on the 20th.

Ms AD that's very convenient timing for Jury Service!

UrsulaPandress · 06/07/2017 16:52

Yeah Summer

I'm only posting as otherwise you drop off my Threads I'm On.

I am composing a letter in my head to complain to school as DD has once again finished a year feeling invisible.

Whether I send it or not I do not yet know ..............

Icouldbeknitting · 06/07/2017 17:08

Ursula is it a small year group overpowered by a few large characters? It can be hard to get a word in edgeways when every conversation is dominated by the same people.

I've wiped the timetable from the chalkboard door in the kitchen and replaced it with a word cloud of all the things I think DS should be doing this summer. I have driving, personal statement, driving theory, music practise, gym and a load of other stuff that will otherwise be overlooked until there's no time left in the holidays to do it. I'm hoping to skip the usual conversation that starts with me asking if he can't do something else other than gaming and goes rapidly downhill from there.

MsAwesomeDragon · 06/07/2017 20:23

raspberry I agree re convenient timing for jury service. They did originally want me the week before y12 went on study leave, which would have had me missing the last week of teaching y12, and the last 2 weeks off teaching y11. They were very accommodating when I asked to change it though, and I just crossed my fingers that it would be a convenient time.

FantasyAndHope · 07/07/2017 19:16

Well dd was home a day early. School actually finishes there today. It's prize giving and dd won a prize, no email or phonecall from school and dd mentioned this to head of sixth if she won a prize could they email either her or me. No email or anything. Dd found out from school, but when she didn't turn up to P.E because she wanted to revise as did her friends they were quick to ring me about a detention Hmm

Littledrummergirl · 07/07/2017 19:50

Ds1 breaks up on 21st unless I've got it wrong. He goes away for his week at university on the 23rd.

Just got to get through parents evening and his predicted grades being announced first.
It's a busy few weeks.

Iamastonished · 07/07/2017 21:24

What are these weeks at university? How are we supposed to find out about them?

TheDrsDocMartens · 07/07/2017 21:30

Surely PE isn't compulsory Fantasy Shock

Cardiff Uni was a big hit, everyone was friendly and we couldn't come up with any negatives.

FantasyAndHope · 07/07/2017 23:14

TheDrs
It is and it's 80minutes of it (lessons are 40mins long) so it's a double. I have countless phone calls with head of sixth over her not going because she's working she's 18 and doesn't want to be doing gymnastics or hockey. She runs and does fitness in her own time. Hardly like she's a vegetable Hmm
It's just annoying as that time could be spent more efficiently

raspberryrippleicecream · 07/07/2017 23:18

PE was compulsory this year for DD, only it was also designated 'extracurricular'. Since Easter she has been allowed it as extra study time as she does a lot of other extra cost activities.

'Iam* our school signposted uni weeks such as Sutton Trust, Uniq and Bitesize.

HesMyLobster · 07/07/2017 23:50

Astonished dd's school didn't signpost anything (although they were supportive of her applications) - she found out about Sutton Trust, Uniq etc from sites like The Student Room and then I researched and found more details on here.

1 week to go here. We're all feeling the strain this week, particularly because it's the end of year show at DD's dance/drama school this weekend and we've all been at rehearsals/helping with costumes, props etc every evening.
It will be brilliant but I'll be very glad on Sunday night when it's all over and we can relax a bit!
Then dd has a (compulsory) 3 day "Skills for Success" conference Monday to Wednesday at 6th Form. I think she'd prefer to be in lessons!

HesMyLobster · 07/07/2017 23:57

I haven't heard of compulsory PE in 6th form before!
Not sure how I feel about that. I'm all for dc being active, but that seems a bit unnecessary somehow.
I know dd would see it as wasted time, especially as she dances at least 8 hours a week out of school.
