here.

Has anyone else heard the rumour going around that the DE are wanting to get rid of every MQ so that we would all have to buy/rent houses in the area we were posted to? Apparently (so the rumour goes) once the lease is up with Annington, then they will hand them all the houses back.

Well, certainly when the reduced rent agreement comes to an end there will be some interesting discussion about how MQ's are going to be funded. I have heard a rumour that a major overhaul of the Long Service Advance of Pay scheme might be part of the solution but I guess we will all be waiting to see...

saltire · 14/09/2007 09:27

A friend of a friend told me that when the reduced rent thing comes to an end, we will all be paying rents in line with our civilian neighbours - so where I live currently that could be £600/£700 a month, thats a big chunk out of a not very big salary

how would this be feasable though esp with the like of reme, agc ect osted every 2 years or so it would be a nightmare and married unaccompanied very rarley works so i cant see how they can even consider this
?

but the mod dosent own the quarters thought they sold them all off to annigton homes we have been in the position before now were our quarter was sold and we had to move and it was a bloody nightmare

saltire · 14/09/2007 09:35

DH heard the story a couple of days ago, he was away somewhere with 2 or 3 colleagues, and they met up with a friend of one of his colleagues . He told them that some advisory group were looking into the feasability of it happening.

As for the increased rents thing - well they would need to improve my MQ a hell of a lot and get it up to what I consider grade 1 standard. No wonder I'm feeling fed up living in this house[sad}I want my old MQ back.

Yet they have built a whole estate of new MQ's over at the old HMS Dedalus(sp?) site in Gosprt. One of DH's colleagues (again, he knows more that I do) had got posted down here and applied for one, but was told - "They aren't being handed out at the minute".
Iknow there was/is a huge shortage of MQ accomodation down here so why are they not filling them up. Lets face it they will be Grade1 standard so they could charge Grade 1rents.

Whats your MQ like then LL? I've never seen any other MQs in this area

SO are you upstairs then?

You see I think my MQ is dire, and is almost - but not quite- as bad as the ones in that report. However I ahve lived in some really nice ones and some awful ones. One in cambridgeshire had a 1950's style kitchen and tiny bedrooms.

My mum and dad's quarter is so bad that they don't pay any rent on it at all . Actually it isn't that bad as they've done loads to it, and they did choose to live there, but they won't be occupied once they leave as they're in such a state.

I've never seen any like the ones on the TV, and we must have lived in 15 or so over the years. Just lucky I suppose.

kerrykatona · 14/09/2007 13:58

i have been really lucky with my mq, i have a three bedroom 2 bathromm semi detatched with a large front and back garden. we even have outhouses to store things in, because we are edinburgh though if they were to up our rent to the going rate it would cripple us. the only people who can afford to stay in this area are the mega rich and those on benefits

the officers houses up here are HUGE they look like mansions. the stuck up gits who stay in them seem to forget that they are only renting them though, i can see a lot of them hitting the ground with a thump when they have to buy there own house

Scootergrrrl · 14/09/2007 14:00

Hey, not all officers are stuck-up gits... promise Our quarter in Germany is firmly stuck in the 50s, and as they announced yesterday that the camp is closing in the next eight years, I can hardly see them doing anything about it now.

McDreamy · 14/09/2007 14:01

Some of the quarters here are so bad that they don't have to pay rent too - unfortunately I do but mine is pretty awful, big but poor standard and I don't even want to think about the safety!

HomeintheSun · 22/09/2007 19:19

I'd never lived in MQ before this, but we moved from our own 1 bedroom house into this 3 bedroon bunglow and it so nice to have space to put everything and to have a spare room so people can stay.

Shoshable · 22/09/2007 19:28

We are having our MQ gutted and reburbished (although we have to move out to a already refurbed) which actually for me is better.

They are doing all the old MQs here.
