Forces sweethearts

If you have a family member in the Royal Navy, RAF or army, find support from other Mumsnetters here.

Remind me to never rely on the "welfare support" offered at station level by the RAF

Shit.

What happened?

Am lucky not to have needed it (yet!)

scaryteacher · 28/09/2010 14:00

Is this your neighbour again?

Have sent you a message via the MN email thingy re: a FB warning we got sent from the Office yesterday.

luciemule · 28/09/2010 14:22

scary can I ask is it an 'alert status' message referring to facebook? If yes, can you tell me where I can find it or what it's about?

scaryteacher · 28/09/2010 14:34

I'll send you the text as well. Check your messaging thingy in a moment. You may also like to advise everyone you know who does the MQs thing on FB that now might be a good time to stop. There have been concerns raised at high levels about the amount of stuff on FB that makes military families identifiable.

luciemule · 28/09/2010 14:36

Hmm -thought it would be about that kind of thing.
I've deleted all stuff that mentioned forces of my FB profile and pages. can't be too careful really. Had forgotten about the MQs bit though - thanks scary Smile

scaryteacher · 28/09/2010 14:38

Sent.

scaryteacher · 28/09/2010 14:39

Especially as the threat level from NI is up again.

luciemule · 28/09/2010 15:58

Thanks - got it scary - and sent.
Sorry OP to hijack your thread Blush

penguin73 · 28/09/2010 17:26

Sorry you have been let down - but the majority of welfare support at all level is fantastic so I hope the title thread wont prevent others seeking help in the future.....

Sent Herbie - hope you and ds are OK.

Saltire · 29/09/2010 10:08

penguin - on some bases it be fantastic but the padre, ssaffa, station welfare officer and station execs have let us down. 2 families are now splitting up - albeit because the wives are going back to their own homes to live seperate from their DH, 1 is putting his papers in, 2 of the wives are ill (one of them being me) and the last family, a Pte, has only just got married and his wife has left.

jcscot · 29/09/2010 10:44

Good grief! What's so dreadful that it's having such an effect on families? I take it from your post that it's something within the control of the welfare system? If so, it's disgraceful that they have let you all down so badly.

notyummy · 29/09/2010 10:48

Saltire - is it accommodation based or something to do with out of areas?

Saltire · 29/09/2010 18:20

Oh defiantely accomodation based.

But they have won, so it doesn't matter anymore. 4 families ruined.

notyummy · 29/09/2010 19:20

Accn standards or behaviour related?

Drusilla · 29/09/2010 19:25

Have you contacted the RAF Families Fed? If youreally think the welfare team has been that bad, then it will do harm to ring up Dawn Mcafferty!

Saltire · 29/09/2010 20:28

Drusilla - RAFF response was that it should and "would" be dealt with at station level.

notyummy - behaviour

penguin73 · 29/09/2010 22:39

I'm not judging your situation, just making the point that 9 times out of 10 they are brilliant and trying to redress the balance for anyone out there who might be put off seeking help because of your comments.

notyummy · 29/09/2010 22:55

Sounds grim Saltire. I take it that you have taken legal advice and discussed with the stn the reputational damage this sort of thing would cause if somehow it made it to the local press....?

Odd, because usually ASB dealt with pretty swifty on patches. Assume the RAF police and local police have full logs etc?

Please dont think that I am teaching granny to suck eggs - I am a forces wife, but also involved with local authority policy on ASB so have an interest on a number of levels.

Seems strange that they prepared to jeopardise the service of a number of individuals for (I assume) the one serving individual whose family is causing the issues.

NickOfTime · 05/10/2010 02:25

call the stn cdr's pa and ask for a meeting.

tell him you have been seriously let down by his welfare staff. and then ask for (another) welfare posting for each of you.

take a rep from each of the affected families and discuss retention.

(actually, they prob don't give a flying toss about retention just now, but that's what i'd do. mind you, i just got a royal bollocking by a wg cdr equiv today, so i may not be the best one to give political advice at the mo, being up for a ruckus and all.)

couldn't do any more harm though, eh?

Saltire · 05/10/2010 13:24

Nick ofTime - we have tried all thsos avenues. Apparently I am "making a fuss" about being stalked and spied on.
my neighobur is "making a fuss" about being stalked and spied on.
The DH of the woman across the road has been dragged in for a "chat" by his immediate boos(who happens to be the DH of the woman doing stalking and spying)" and told "you really need to get a grip on your wife, she's been socialising with mrs saltire and Mrs saltires friend, and they were overheard in x pub on x night talking about my wife"Shock
Now we weren't in any pub on the night he mentioned, but we were in the lady acorss the roads house. So he's lying too.

but that's allowed becasue I'm just making a fuss

NickOfTime · 05/10/2010 14:50

then go back to the rafff whatever they are called and ask them to intervene on your behalf.

personally i'm going the service complaints commissioner. Grin

Saltire · 05/10/2010 15:27

and SSAFFA have said to my friend "well, I don't know what you expect us to do aobut it".

OP posts:
Saltire · 05/10/2010 15:38

It's becasue the DH's of the 2 troublemakers are higher ranks than my DH or that of my neighbours.
Either that or the 2 Dh's have info and can blackmail the station execs.
The wife of one of them has been, on more than one occasion, fighting with other wives in the Mess, she has also on more than one occaison been full on fisticuffs on teh street with other neighbours.
