... following on from another thread where lots of people are talking about the need to cut back on alcohol....

A few people on that thread have mentioned lovely refreshing drinks to reach for instead of alcohol.

Anyone got any favourite non-alcoholic drinks to share please?

No, sorry

Nice one southeastastra - I love cream soda - but so do my kids!! Would have to hide it so they can't find it.

Ginger ale (not ginger beer) on the rocks topped up with a dash of lime cordial and a slice of lemon or lime.

Cranberry and blackcurrant juice in a big wine glass with ice and a slice of orange.

Becks Blue alcohol-free beer is surprisingly nice.

Rocks lime squash.

FiveGoMadInDorset · 10/06/2010 23:29

Ginger beer, lemonade and angosura bitters or you could swap the ginger beer for ginger ale, also very good with a slug of gin but very refreshing without.

'real' lemonade is also lovely,

colditz · 10/06/2010 23:30

"bitty" orange juice with soda water, ice and a straw.

I drank pints when I was pregnant.

zippy539 · 10/06/2010 23:32

V5 veggie juice with a dash of Lee and Perrins and some chilli sauce.

Virgin Gin and Tonic (ie tonic, ice and lemon/lime)

Becks Blue.

Watermelon Juice!

(really!)

Morrisons stock a version by Rubicon, the only one I have ever come across in this country, and it is lush. Not to sweet, very refreshing. I have to hide it from dd2 though, she can go through a litre in minutes!

With ice, either full strength or half and half with fizzy water, its what I drink when dh isn't here (i don't drink alone!)

lilolilmanchester · 10/06/2010 23:39

mmm, watermelon juice sounds lovely....

I like sparkling water with a squeeze of lime. I don't want to swap wine for yet another sugary drink, because if I manage to lose weight by cutting down the drinking, it will make it seem more worthwhile and easier to stick to.

dangermousse · 10/06/2010 23:51

ginger ale and apple juice

lilolilmanchester · 10/06/2010 23:57

a friend on FB has just recommended pineapple juice infused with mint leaves, topped up with ginger ale

Ginger & Lemon Grass Cordial. I can't remember the brand, but it is in a tall, tapered, green glass bottle and is available at most supermarkets. They also do an Elderflower one, but it is not quite as refreshing.

CJCregg · 11/06/2010 10:01

Grapefruit juice and tonic - good one to order in pubs!

munkymaz · 11/06/2010 11:09

4merly - that'll be BottleGreen and it is LUSH! I can drink it by the gallon

Rubicon also do a rather tasty Guava juice and also a Passion Fruit.

At the mo I'm liking a blueberry cordial I've found in Morrisons with fizzy water

thumbwitch · 11/06/2010 11:12

Waitrose blueberry juice, with or without sparkling mineral water (I usually have my red wine diluted with sparkling mineral water anyway to slow me down).
It looks right, it tastes very nice (to me) and therefore it seems to be acceptable to my wine-sense.

My local supermarket now does a decent de-alcoholised red wine so I get that sometimes.(it's in Australia though so I doubt you get it in the UK)

LucyJones · 11/06/2010 13:31

I like apple and melon j20s

Iklboo · 11/06/2010 13:32

Becks non-alcoholic lager. OK doesn't quite fit the remit but tastes ike Becks, just no alcohol.

LadyCad · 11/06/2010 13:34

There's a really powerful non-al ginger drink you can buy in Holland and Barrett.

Rochester's or something?

Gives you that burn as it slips down. If you hide the bottle in a brown paper bag it enhances the effect.

(Sorry, was that too frivolous?)

LadyCad · 11/06/2010 13:35

this stuff

compo · 11/06/2010 13:36

Lol ladycad

racingheart · 11/06/2010 20:06

Elderflower cordial with sparkling water and loads of crushed ice.

I also like pretend alco drinks - like tonic water with lime and ice but no gin or Virgin Marys: tomato juice, tabasco, worcestershire sauce, stick of celery and ice but no vodka.

Cranberry and raspberry cut with sparkling water is brilliant too - I drank that when BFing.

Or jasmine or fresh peppermint tea.

taffetacat · 11/06/2010 20:53

non alcoholic sea breeze - cranberry, orange, pineapple and grapefruit mixed together with lime juice to taste and a dash of grenadine. With lots of ice.

AvadaKedavra · 11/06/2010 20:54

Long vodka without the vodka soda water, lime, angostura bitters.
