... following on from another thread where lots of people are talking about the need to cut back on alcohol....

A few people on that thread have mentioned lovely refreshing drinks to reach for instead of alcohol.

Anyone got any favourite non-alcoholic drinks to share please?

Fentimans ginger beer has a nice kick in the back of the throat. It also has shed loads of sugar in it, but weirdly isn't sickly sweet like old jamaican ginger beer, for instance.

I'd say anything as long as it's got a massive pile of ice in it

I've kerrrrrunched my way through a few pregnancies that way- and refrained from killing a single one of my nearest and dearest

fresh orange and lemonade with crushed ice and served in a long glass with a straw and a slice of orange. I love this drink, it's so refreshing.

Morrisons do an apple, pear and ginger squash that is surprisingly pleasant, and not too dear. Seems daft that I'd think nothing of downing a £5 bottle of plonk on an evening, but hesitate to pay £2 for a bottle of schloer type stuff, but there you go.

I second the ice thing. You need lots. A bit of mint is always good, as is lemon.

I like slimline tonic, or ginger ale. Both have the sort of bitter taste of alcohol. I don't like overly sweet drinks.

Grapefruit juice and tonic is another one that works for the same reason.

Just tested the new Appleteeser and fruiteese range, really nice. Also Shloer or Ame are quite nice.

i like those herbal soft drinks, drunk cold from a wine glass, such as ami, it comes in a white or blush version whihc look like white or rose wine in a glass so good for covering your tracks in the early stages before you tell everyone too.

I've rather taken to ice cold bottles of
Supermalt www.supermalt.com/.
Not very low cal sadly ,but has lots of vit B which is good for fatigue ,and emotional crapness .

Garvey's Ginger Still served up as a punch with lemonade and loads of fruit slices and mint.

Or a cuppa tea.

Florida orange juice [fresh orange with lemonade, splash of lime]
St clements [orange juice with bitter lemon]
I really like the sparkling waters with added fruit juice, lemon and lime is my favourite.
Have just got onto apple juice with ice. As a general rule I find that plenty of ice makes any drink more enjoyable and satisfying.
I know quite a few people in 'recovery' like lime and soda.

Shloer do a really nice "fake" Rose wine or an elderflower one too!!
They were on offer in Asda the other week for £1 each I thought I'd bought enough to see me thro last bit of pregnancy but its all gone and no longer on offer

Bottlegreen ginger and lemon grass cordial (a little goes a long way) with sparkling water.

Lovely.

I was in Hong Kong whilst pregnant and got hooked on this non alcoholic cocktail.

1 tin lychees, including syrup
Juice of a lime
Mint leaves
Soda
Ice

Whizz it all up in a blender....it's unbelievably good!

I had to cut out alcohol as I couldn't take it with the painkillers I was on. The problem was that I really liked Kopparberg Pear Cider. Then, just recently, my DH came back from Tesco with 4 bottles of the no-alcohol version. It had all the flavour and the best bit is that I can't get pissed.

Mojito without the rum.
