How can I use up a jar of mincemeat without making mince pies please?

Was given a jar of homemade mincemeat for Christmas. Any ideas what I can do with it, that doesn't involve making pastry?

Oooh what a good question! I have some shop bought mincemeat sitting in the fridge too and was wondering only an hour ago what to do with it. I was going to have a stab at making pastry but I would welcome not having to.

Shame you are only asking the question Janeite and not providing us with a tasty recipe.

Ummm, I suppose an obvious choice would be to use it to stuff baked apples. Boring, I know.

Mince meat muffins.

Get some bun cases and cook it in there without pastry.

Wait until you can buy pastry?

Thank you everybody. Streudel sounds great but so does apple and mincemeat crumble. Why does Delia always make things sound such a faff though? Think I may do a crumble tomorrow.

Baked apples is a brilliant idea but I am the only one here that likes them.

I wonder if it would work with apples as a kind of Eve's pudding thing too?

Or with meringue somehow?

I second mincemeat muffins recipe here The icing is also nice made with amaretto or brandy.

does delia make the crumble?

I chop up apples til they look about right in dish. add blobs of mincemeat.
rub 50z flour with 3 oz butter. Stir in 3oz sugar. add topping over apples. bake for 40 min at 18oish.

The streudel recipe is Delia's. I'd do the crumble about as you describe, Kitten - but with some oats in it too.

this adaptation of a banana cake is lovely and moist it makes v good muffins too!

Makes 1 x 900g loaf
Preparation time: 30 minutes
cooking time: 40-45 minutes
? 2 ripe bananas (about 400g)
? 150g softened butter
? 150g soft brown sugar
? ½ jar of mincemeat
? 300g plain flour
? 2 tsp baking powder
? 1/2 tsp bicarbonate of soda
? 2 eggs, lightly beaten
? 100ml vegetable oil
Instructions
Preheat the oven to 180°C/gas 4. Butter a 900g loaf tin and line the bottom and sides with non-stick baking parchment
Peel and mash the bananas. Put the butter and sugar into a mixing bowl and cream together until light and fluffy. Stir in the bananas and mincemeat. Sift together the flour, baking powder and bicarbonate of soda. Add the flour mix and the beaten egg, each about a third at a time, to the banana mix, beating well between each addition. Finally, stir in the oil.
Pour into the loaf tin and bake for 40-45 minutes until well-risen and golden brown and a skewer inserted in the middle comes out clean. Leave in the tin for 10 minutes then turn out on to a wire rack to cool completely.

I haven't used it yet and mincemeat teacake sounds v good indeed.

Not at all sure about mixing it with yoghurt though - it sounds a bit too cold and lumpy to me, if that makes sense. Sorry!

I make a huge batch of mincemeat every year. We use the leftovers for baked apples and Delua has a delicious mincemeat and strudle (sp?) recipe.

Thanks. The Delia recipe is linked to earlier I think. It sounds lovely but reading her recipes exhausts me.

Bread and butter pudding with Mincemeat spread liberally between the layers is a great warm pud and money saving too as its best with stalish bread.Two birds one stone there Janeite

these are nice even without the icing and you can freeze them, nice with custard too!
