Potato wedges (home made) and baked beans - pregnancy seems to have reverted my taste buds to those of a 6 year old!

NomDePlume · 07/01/2010 18:10

pasta with tomato based sauce (tinned toms, red wine, shallot, garlic clove, olive oil, squirt of ketchup, s&p, bit of sugar and simmer/reduce for about an hour or until really dark, thick and rich), chorizo and smokey bacon plus garlic baguette. Yum

moondog · 07/01/2010 18:54

Sounds great Paula.
Will give it a whirl meself!

paulaplumpbottom · 07/01/2010 18:57

DH calls it tex/mex cottage pie

NorbertDentressangle · 07/01/2010 19:02

Bruschetta and salad

(I know salad might sound an odd choice when we have 10ins of snow and its -4 outside but its a case of using up whats in the fridge before it goes off and trying to ration other stuff as I'm not sure when I can get to the nearest shop).

Jambuttie · 07/01/2010 19:38

should've said spiced lamb with cous cous and roasted veg very lush and low calorie too

nannynobnobs · 07/01/2010 19:43

We had risotto and locally farmed Old Spot pork chops.

JaneiteIsAWimpyTeacher · 07/01/2010 19:44

Yum to cornbread. Which recipe do you use please?

We had roasted vege pasta bake. I don't like pasta bake.
But it keeps dp and dd2 happy every now and then.

ShinyAndNew · 07/01/2010 19:45

JamButty - how do you do your spiced lamb with couscous?

blametheparents - please can you report back about success of black bean chilli because I was thinking about doing it one night next week.

Here, we (DH & I) are having teryaki salmon with noodles and wilted greens. Children had pasta & red pesto as they were in a whingy carb-slump after all the snow activity this afternoon.

sowhatitsonlysnow · 07/01/2010 20:13

I had this Innocent veg pot. I've liked most of the ones I've tried but this was truely vile.

FiveGoMadInDorset · 07/01/2010 20:17

We are eating through the freezer, tonight is left over ready meal, chicken in a tarragon sauce, and I have baby new potatoes and broccoli.

Lilyloo · 07/01/2010 20:21

I running out of meals in the freezer , managed to find bag of frozen fish pieces.
Made fish pie for the dc's and me and dp had fish cooked in lemon and chilli on a bed of rice with mange tout and yellow peppers.
Was very nice and good for the diet.
However the glass of red i am enjoying now probably isn't

blametheparents · 07/01/2010 20:37

sowhatitsonlysnow Saw that one in Waitrose today and thought it looked yuck. Most of the others are lovely and great for a healthy lunch / tea.

I can report that the black bean chilli was delicious, tho have just realised that I forgot to add the flat leaf parsley. Had it with spring onions and crumbled feta cheese on top and very yummy. Will def be making it again.
Can type up recipe if anyone would like it.

misshardbroom · 07/01/2010 21:33

was the black bean chilli particularly hot? Would you feed it to an adventurous 5 y.o?

blametheparents · 07/01/2010 21:37

No, not especially hot. When I make beef chilli I make it much hotter.
Was spiced, but not hot.
My 8 yo liked it, he is quite adventurous. My 4 yo DD would not touch it, but then she is a fussy little madam.

misshardbroom · 07/01/2010 21:46

Thanks, btp

dairymoo · 07/01/2010 21:51

We had that black bean chilli on Tuesday blametheparents, I also can concur that it was delicious (we had feta and avocado on top). And no, not particularly hot - although obviously you can add chilli powder to taste.

dairymoo · 07/01/2010 21:52

Oh and we had prawn and butternut squash red curry with brown basmati rice tonight.

GossipMonger · 08/01/2010 09:28

Dairymoo - could I have the prawn curry recipe please?

notslimyetbutoneday · 08/01/2010 09:32
