whiskey!

The nicest mince pies I ever had, were with glenfiddich whiskey.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 28/10/2009 08:15

ooooh, someone after my own heart! Plus everything tastes like brandy at christmas.

So we have :
whiskey-2
Brandy 2

Don't mean to throw a spanner in the works, but if you have any amaretto, glug a bit of that in, scrumptious I promise.

colditz · 28/10/2009 08:16

Brandy

MrsMills · 28/10/2009 08:17

otherwise brandy

OhYouBadBadKitten · 28/10/2009 08:20

amaretto wiht mincemeat is nice, I core apples and stuff it in the center of them, then wrap in foil and bbq them.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 28/10/2009 08:24

yum!! thats good cos of course my next question will be what do I do with several jars of mincemeat! dd did a good part of the making and wants to give some to her teacher (who is a young male) and rather oddly her headteacher as Christmas presents.

I do Nigella's recipe which has CIDER in it and then brandy at the end. It is yummy (although you do have to add about twice as much spice as she say).
DH drinks all the whisky in this house. All gone .

Bettymum · 28/10/2009 11:10

says not say.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 28/10/2009 12:42

cider!

I'm about to add....... brandy.
I think.
hang on a mo....
yep. brandy has a more matching smell to the fruit.
though whiskey would make it a bit different.

oh I don't know.... maybe I should make me a special whiskey one. Now thats a good idea!!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 28/10/2009 12:45

ok. Have had a leeeetle taste of both the whiskey and brandy with some mincemeat. I think the brandy does actually go better.

Ok, still couldn't make up my mind so put a glug of both in

its very very very very nice. (first year of making it)

did I mention how nice it is?

Bettymum · 28/10/2009 15:16

Sounds very very nice indeed! Will be even nicer in a month or so!

Fabster · 28/10/2009 15:17

I made my first ever batch of mincemeat at the weekend and the recipe specified rum or brandy. I used brandy and it smells yummy. Just waiting a month now to make into pies.

TeamAlesha · 28/10/2009 15:18

I used Grand Marnier last year - that was nice.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 28/10/2009 15:38

lol at in a month or so, I'm going to have to ask dh to hide it from me now!

Grand marnier would be very nice I reckon. Good job we didn't have any, I might have had to dither more!

Brandy, I love home made mincemeat once you have had it you will never want a shoip bought pie or shop bought mince meat again.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 28/10/2009 16:08

It was always the sterilising jars bit for me that worried me before (plus the collecting jars). Never realised what a simple job it was!
