PieceNharmoknee · 06/05/2009 12:53

Chicken, burgers and sausages would make my family happy

Fimbo · 06/05/2009 12:54

corn on the cob

WowOoo · 06/05/2009 12:55

As above, but I do love a sausage also.
Lots of things to pick and choose. Cheese, olives, crisps, dips, carrot/cucemebr/celery/red pepper sticks.

Hope weather holds for you too!

jumpingbeans · 06/05/2009 12:56

Make some strawberry and mashmallows kebabs for the children,(not for the bbq, keep them in the fridge) my lot love emm

Overmydeadbody · 06/05/2009 12:56

I do't mind what is served at a bbq as long as it's properly cooked (with no burnt/charred offerings). It's nice if it's not the boring burgers and sausages ruotine tohugh.

Bear in mind that you can bbq almost anything.

I'd like some sort of meat or fish, some sort of veg some nice bread and some sort of salad.

TrinityIsLovingHerLittleRhino · 06/05/2009 12:56

corn on the cob
baked potatos
salad
coleslaw
crisps

dips and crudites

GracieGrace · 06/05/2009 12:57

NOT those BURNED vegetable kebabs, they are never nice

islandofsodor · 06/05/2009 12:57

I would expect sausages and plain chicken (with th eoption of a marinade for those who liked) would be an added bonus.

I hate burgers.

GracieGrace · 06/05/2009 12:59

I think the best bbqs have little choice tbh but one or two thigns done well not endless meat.

also baby new potato salad. in lemon vinagrette

Overmydeadbody · 06/05/2009 13:00

Chicken portions are not too expensive, how about doing those with a nice sticky bbq marinade (tip so it doesn't burn: only start basting the chicken with the marinade in the last ten minutes of cooking), served with pita bread, salad, mini roast potatoes, a nice selection of dips, olives, and sauces?

For pud whole bananas, slit open and stuffed with chocolate squares, then wrapped in foil (with the skins on) and bbqed are lush.

Overmydeadbody · 06/05/2009 13:02

Why do so many people burn food when they bbq it? Is it really that hard not to? I never understood this.

GracieGrace · 06/05/2009 13:03

you can get 6 drumsticks at marks for 99p.

roast in ovenm finish on grill = that is the tip

timmette · 06/05/2009 13:05

Spicy wings - yummy.
Salmon or prawns are lovely on a barbeeque.
My sis makes her own home made burgers beef ones with cheese on the inside, pork and apple, lamb morrocan style ones.
Poussins butterflied
God I am hungry

islandofsodor · 06/05/2009 13:05

Peiple don't start the barbecue off early enough so they are cooking when the flames are building up, not when they have reached a more stable temperature.

Disenchanted3 · 06/05/2009 13:07

At my nephews the BBQ set on fire and everything was burnt to a crisp!

Right so Burgersm sausages
Chicken kebabs and chicken pieces (choce of marinade) with veg
vegatables, dips
salead,
crusty bread
pototo salad
baked spuds
corn on the cob

I also like couscous stuffed peppers, yum!

Love the ideas of bananas in their skins with melted choc squares OMDB - will def. be trying that out in the summer

dandycandyjellybean · 06/05/2009 15:42

Am veggie, so for us a bbq consists of:

Vegetable kebabs marinaded in home made bbq sauce

Thick slices of potato brushed well with oil and well seasoned afterward

Potato croquettes on straight from the freezer do very well and go down well with the kids, as do Quorn nuggets

Quorn meatballs work well too, and I marinade the plain fillets with bbq sauce (thaw both first though)

Large flat mushrooms, spread with a little butter (black side up) red or green pesto, sprinkled with finely chopped onion and then crumbled stilton or sliced brie or even cheddar - these never fail to please

And all the requisite extras as mentioned; ditto the bananas but i add butter soft brown sugar, grated orange rind and rum!!!!!

Thick slices of fresh pineapple also work really well straight on the bbq.

MamaHobgoblin · 06/05/2009 15:50

Sweet potatoes in foil, maybe with a little maple syrup and cinammon drizzled in?

Halloumi. All crispy and smoky, yum.

I love grilled peppers, but you have to take the skins off! Cut into slivers and with a nice garlicky oily vinagrette (sp??).

Sardines and mackerel can be cheap.

Sidge · 06/05/2009 15:54

Lamb koftas
Chicken with a handle (drumsticks to you and me!)
Chicken, beef or fish kebabs with veg
Sausages

I also like to do:

Cous cous salad
Salad
Bread
Potato salad
Dips etc

MrsMattie · 06/05/2009 15:55

Chicken, nice brea, big salad. Sorted!

BecauseImWorthIt · 06/05/2009 15:55

Leg of lamb, butterflied, then marinated in olive oil, chilli flakes, garlic and lemon zest with some fresh oregano.

Halloumi, with a coriander vinaigrette

tuna steak

green salad

Please no burgers or sausages, or chicken drumsticks that are burnt on the outside and raw on the inside.

And lots of white wine!

serin · 07/05/2009 23:48

Home made coleslaw,
Potato salad,
Greek salad,
Green salad.

That's me sorted, in fact don't bother lighting the BBQ.

FrankMustard · 08/05/2009 00:02
