Burger King, Subway, Greggs or McDs are the only lunch outlets in close proximity and I'm starvatiously hungry. Do any of them sell anything nutritious? Or at least tasty?

Advise me oh wise ones. Which shall I choose and what shall I order?
(I'm 4 months preganant and trying to eat relatively healthily but suspect none of them will serve anything that fits the healthy bill, will they?)

tuna salad from subway

JohnnyTwoHats · 10/03/2009 12:44

I bet Subway is your best bet. You can choose something relatively healthy from there.

Trinityrhino · 10/03/2009 12:45

subway is your best bet

jobschmob · 10/03/2009 12:45

Personally I'd go for a sub-then you get to choose exactly what you want in it.

gigglewitch · 10/03/2009 12:45

you do know we're going to get bashed something rotten now dont you [grin
IMHO, subway are the best of that bad list you've made, in that they sell stuff with proper meat and salad that doesn't appear to have been sitting there for a week.

BTW - disclaimer : I am not Wise

Don't Greggs do nice filled rolls and sandwiches? I seem to remember their chicken salad was nice.

trixymalixy · 10/03/2009 12:47

Mmmm, chargrilled chicken oval bite from greggs, nutritious and really tasty!!

MrsMattie · 10/03/2009 12:48

A roll from Greggs? Something like cheese & salad? Personally , I wouldn't touch Subway with a bargepole (MSG-ed up to the hilt and all pre-cooked nastiness!) or BK (all microwaved).

p.s. I would go for McD's personally. I quite like a cheeky McDirty's once in a blue moon.

OOOO CHICKEN TERRYAKI WITH RED ONION WARMED IN A FOOT LONG SUBWAY [GRIN]

hermionegrangerat34 · 10/03/2009 12:49

Greggs are excellent and cheap! They do some sandwiches without mayonnaise.

nappyzonehasastroppytoddler · 10/03/2009 12:49

soory bout the cap - i was eating a bacon sarnie!

Kewcumber · 10/03/2009 12:49

I rather like the McD's deli sandwich proabbly not at all healthy though

georgimama · 10/03/2009 12:50

Greggs do some really nice sandwiches, much cheaper than Subway.

They also sell some utter crap, but just don't buy it.

Blu · 10/03/2009 12:57

Eh? Where's your base these days, then? (e mail me!)Is there no M&S where you can pick up a nice salad or sandwich? Make a packed lunch!

I ate a sandwich from Subway once and it was really weird. Very slimy and chemical tasting and very unpleasant bread.

trixymalixy · 10/03/2009 13:03

Eugh M&S sandwiches are vile and cardboardy.

Subway sandwiches are really fake and plasticy tasting.

Greggs sandwiches and rolls in nice fresh bread are the best sandwiches and rolls you will find anywhere!

giantkatestacks · 10/03/2009 13:04

I would do a dodgy food crawl if that were me - start off in burger king for a whopper junior, then onto McDs for some fries and a tea then onto greggs for a yum yum...ahem...

Swank · 10/03/2009 13:06

McD's grilled chicken salad in a bowl with balsamic dressing (21 cals fro dressing).

Surprisingly nice.

SheSellsSeashellsByTheSeashore · 10/03/2009 13:09

Is no one gonna tell her just to relax nd have a pasty then?

mmmmmm pastys

Greggs sarnies are nice MacD's salad are salty aren't they?

TeenyTinyToria · 10/03/2009 13:10

Subway and Greggs are really nice.

alicecrail · 10/03/2009 13:11

Sweet chicken teriyaki with ranch sauce (oh, and a little bit of salad if you are that way inclined)with cheese in a cheese topped foot long sub from subway.
Can you grab me one while you're there?

ScummyMummy · 10/03/2009 13:17

lol giantkatestacks!

blu- am in a library mumsnetting working hard on last few assignments. Return to my usual office next week so we can meet for proper nice lunch soon. There's no M&S or obvious sarnie takeaway type place. I think there's a greasy spoon- looks horrid- and there's a nice Caribbean place but it's too far. Should have bought a packed lunch but didn't think.

Am now going to count up the responses and go with the one with the biggest vote!

I like the chicken ranch thing from Subway and the chicken salad sarnies from Greggs (can't seem to get them in Scotland though). I had a chicken and bacon melt thing from McDs 2 weeks ago whuch was nice and din't leave me regretting not having a cheeseburger. Not had a BK since I was 19 weeks pregnant and threw it back up!

ScummyMummy · 10/03/2009 13:23

OK, thanks everyone. Subway is clear winner with Greggs close 2nd. No votes for BK, interestingly! Anyway, will report back.
