Burger King, Subway, Greggs or McDs are the only lunch outlets in close proximity and I'm starvatiously hungry. Do any of them sell anything nutritious? Or at least tasty?

Advise me oh wise ones. Which shall I choose and what shall I order?
(I'm 4 months preganant and trying to eat relatively healthily but suspect none of them will serve anything that fits the healthy bill, will they?)

Theres a Greggs 1 min walk from my flat, lol.

Flier · 10/03/2009 13:25

oops x-post - but different scores - who can't count?

GetOrfMoiLand · 10/03/2009 13:28

I am eating a chicken mango from Greggs at the moment - very fresh bread, lots of filling (chicken breast, mayo, mango chutney & mixed leaves) and only £1.99.

M&S sandwiches not too clever, Boots sandwiches tasteless. Greggs by far the best.

I wouldn't trust myself in McDs as i would have a quarterpounder meal gone large.

KingRolo · 10/03/2009 13:30

I bet lots of Greggs bashers have never been in one.

Forget the accusations of chavvery - it's the best, and cheapest, place on the high street for fresh sandwiches made with proper bread and fresh fillings.

OrmIrian · 10/03/2009 13:31

I quite like the spicy veggy deli from MaccyD's - with brown bread and salad.

OrmIrian · 10/03/2009 13:33

And Greggs do v nice sandwiches iirc.

Flier · 10/03/2009 13:33

Since we moved North, I really miss Greggs and chicken Mango was gorgeous

Rhubarb · 10/03/2009 13:34

Greggs sausage roll and a fruit shoot.

Rhubarb · 10/03/2009 13:34

Flier - they have Greggs opp North! I've lived in Manchester, Preston and Carlisle and all places have had a Greggs. Where are you, Stornoway?

MrsMattie · 10/03/2009 13:35

Subs have got about 700 calories a pop, haven't they? I'm sure a Happy Meal has less calories...

GetOrfMoiLand · 10/03/2009 13:36

Now i like Greggs sausage rolls.

Flier · 10/03/2009 13:36

no, just Inverness, but they don't have one, rhubarb

GetOrfMoiLand · 10/03/2009 13:37

Lol Rhubarb.

Yes I thought Greggs was northern. Manchester seems to be full of them.

Subway is disgusting. I cannot bear to go in there because of the smell (I think it is the boaksome meatball marinara sauce).

Flier · 10/03/2009 13:38

I remember back in the day when M&S sandwiches were truly lovely and a bit different. Sadly, they are now pretty rubbish...

Flier · 10/03/2009 13:40

I thought Greggs was scottish???

Flier · 10/03/2009 13:41

well, I've learned something today !

"Greggs was founded in the 1930s by John Gregg with a single shop in Gosforth, Newcastle upon Tyne.[1]"

georgimama · 10/03/2009 14:08

I agree about the chicken mango. Chicken orleans is also yummy scrummy.

Rhubarb · 10/03/2009 14:09

Flier - deep fried Mars Bar.

Flier · 10/03/2009 14:21

rhubarb- yeuch - have never tried it - have you?

ScummyMummy · 10/03/2009 14:43

Well, I had a subway chicken teriyaki thingy and it made me feel sick! The cup of tea was alright though. Will try Greggs next time but am going to take a packed lunch tomorrow so that next time isn't too soon.

No worries scummy! But of course, if you eat sausage rolls and drink fruit shoots now, it means your baby will get a taste for them when it's older

ScummyMummy · 10/03/2009 14:54

I thought calming a tantrumming bratlet with sausage rolls and fruit shoots was the number one mumsnet tip, rhubs! How else am I going to calm the little bananahead when it cries, eh?

I like the iced chelsea bun things from Greggs.

Are they called belgian buns? Sort of coiled round sweet bread with sultanas, a bit spicy, icing and a cherry on top. Millions of calories.

Tinker · 10/03/2009 15:07

Aargh, too late but was going to say Greggs. Didn't Submway come out as one of the worst for salt and fat??? Think it was that meatball one - had enough calories for a whole day for an adult
