cook it on a highish heat to reduce the amount of liquid in it? Keep stirring occasionally to stop it catching on the bottom.

WaynettaSlob · 01/12/2008 15:31

are you cooking it with the lid off to allow liquid / steam to escape?

TotalChaos · 01/12/2008 15:31

if desperate you could add cornflower to thicken it up a bit?

LulumamaLovesLatkes · 01/12/2008 15:31

thank you , am doing that.. have been for the last hour and a half

i made xmas lunch for 18 last year, why can;t i make a sodding chilli?? well???

cornflour? will it not go lumpy?

OP posts:
HeadFairy · 01/12/2008 15:33

Or you could add arrowroot if you've got some. Sometimes when these things cool down they're not as liquid as they are when they're piping hot. it might be worth letting it go cold. Perhaps you can then spoon off some liquid.

ABudafulSightWereHappyTonight · 01/12/2008 15:33

Mix the cornflour in a little cold water first then mix it in to the chilli.

Could the mince have had a lot of water in it?

I bought a piece of lamb yesterday and tried to do Jamie Oliver's 4 hour lamb and it ended up almost stewed cos so much water came out of it.

WaynettaSlob · 01/12/2008 15:36

more tomato puree...mince.....chilli powder?

LulumamaLovesLatkes · 01/12/2008 15:37

LulumamaLovesLatkes · 01/12/2008 15:41

OP posts:
BroccoliSpears · 01/12/2008 15:42

That was my first thought Waynetta.

Breadcrumbs for the chilli.

LulumamaLovesLatkes · 01/12/2008 15:44

really, being pregnant makes you a rubbish cook !?

OP posts:
WaynettaSlob · 01/12/2008 15:44

Lulu - if you thinkg you are trying to make soup, perhaps that's why your chilli looks like soup.....are you perhaps not making chilli at all, and are just going mad thinking you are???

WaynettaSlob · 01/12/2008 15:51
LulumamaLovesLatkes · 01/12/2008 15:59

you are not funny. is there any such thing as chilli soup?

OP posts:
WaynettaSlob · 01/12/2008 16:00

There could well be now!!! Get some French bread and serve it as a hearty soup!

You did say "i think i am just overtired. and trying to MN, cook, tidy the lounge and hoover the kitchen and make soup simultaneously ", hence my (and your) confusion!

LulumamaLovesLatkes · 01/12/2008 16:02

LOL !i am making soup. chicken soup. not chilli soup.

OP posts:
LedodgyChristmasjumper · 01/12/2008 16:03

I thought you were making chilli when did the chicken go in?

WaynettaSlob · 01/12/2008 16:05

Jesus woman, stop showing off. One homecooked meal a week is enough....
Particularly for someone in your condition

LulumamaLovesLatkes · 01/12/2008 16:14

the chicken was last nights carcass!

is there a 'sorry i started this thread ' emoticon...

OP posts:
WaynettaSlob · 01/12/2008 16:19

Right, so now you are showing off that not only did you do a roast dinner yesterday, you are being frugal and Nigella-ish and making soup out of the remnants.

Have you been tempted to add coal to it?

LulumamaLovesLatkes · 01/12/2008 16:20

do you want to make me cry? Do you??

OP posts:
BroccoliSpears · 01/12/2008 16:28

I don't think coal would thicken it.

WaynettaSlob · 01/12/2008 16:30

Of course not Lulu
Here - have a g+t.
