What's the greatest cuisine in the world?

Just made a rather yummily yum spicy Thai beef salad and was considering whether Thai food could be, possibly, the best food in the world ever. After all there are green curries and tom yum gai soups and fishcakes and fragrant rice. And much more. Mmmmmmmmmmm.

But then how can it be the best when there's sushi and Indian/Pakistani/Bangladeshi and French and Chinese and Spanish and Italian and Araboc and S.American and Caribbean? All so, so, so delicious and fab.

What is your vote for the bestest of the best in terms of food? If you could only eat the food of one area again ever which one would it be?

My partner says Italian.
I say Thai (for tonight)

Whaddaya think?

I love love love thai.
Also provencale/meditteranean.
Couldn't choose between the two.

KateandtheGirls · 27/02/2005 00:30

I'd have a hard time picking one. But if I had to it would probably be Chinese.

But I also love Mexican, Southwestern, Japanese, Thai, Italian, French, Spanish.....

PuffTheMagicDragon · 27/02/2005 00:33

Japanese

joash · 27/02/2005 00:33

Thai food when cooked by my DS - FLABULOUS (and that's not a spelling mistake)

KateandtheGirls · 27/02/2005 00:39

What does he cook joash?

maisystar · 27/02/2005 00:39

italian, mmmmmmm..........

joash · 27/02/2005 00:49

His current favourites are very chicken based;
Crispy Stir Fried Noodle,
Red chilli noodles,
Masaman Chicken - a sort of chicken & coconut curry,
lemon grass chicken,
chicken and basil,
sticky rice,
and this rice ball type thing (looks like balls of rice but they're filled with chickenand chilli

This is making me very hungry.

I would have to say Italian too, the best of the European bunch IMO

but as for the rest Japanese, Goan, Thai and proper Mexican

ironically I don't like Chinese food very much

marthamoo · 27/02/2005 08:17

I couldn't choose. It's like "what's your favourite meal?" I love so many different kinds of food that I really couldn't pick a favourite.

Niddlynono · 28/02/2005 14:47

Thai and then Italian.

I would happily eat chicken Pad Thai for breakfast, lunch and dinner for the rest of my life.

Indian

and Jewish (chicken soup, fishballs etc)

suzywong · 28/02/2005 15:23

OK at the risk of treading on toes and being unpoluar, which cuisines would you definitely not have on your list?

I'm thinking Bulgarian

some of the food you get in NZ is pretty horrible, lasagne toppers spring to mind.

suzywong · 28/02/2005 15:46

Yes I agree,

English food can be great, fly the flag

I tell you, English sausages, not mass produced horse-lips ones are the BEST, I can't find a decent substitute here in Australia

Gobbledigook · 28/02/2005 15:48

Italian for me every time but closely followed by Thai.

suzywong · 28/02/2005 15:48

what, best or worst?
