What's the greatest cuisine in the world?

Just made a rather yummily yum spicy Thai beef salad and was considering whether Thai food could be, possibly, the best food in the world ever. After all there are green curries and tom yum gai soups and fishcakes and fragrant rice. And much more. Mmmmmmmmmmm.

But then how can it be the best when there's sushi and Indian/Pakistani/Bangladeshi and French and Chinese and Spanish and Italian and Araboc and S.American and Caribbean? All so, so, so delicious and fab.

What is your vote for the bestest of the best in terms of food? If you could only eat the food of one area again ever which one would it be?

My partner says Italian.
I say Thai (for tonight)

Whaddaya think?

now I have a mad craving for a lasagne topper and a spaghetti mini pizza! Where can I get one.

suzywong · 28/02/2005 15:54

is a lasagne topper something out of a can that you put on toast

that was just the incentive I needed to get off MN and go to bed, thanks

Beansmum · 28/02/2005 15:56

no its a little patty of meat with some kind of white cheesey stuff on top all wrapped up in a breadcrumb type covering. it's as delicious as it sounds.

suzywong · 28/02/2005 15:57

that may be the single most disgusting thing I have ever heard of, not least for it's corruption and abuse of the original dish

goodnight

Vietnamese, Thai Japanese and Italian are faves.

Worst - Polish or East German - hot saurkraut anyone??

gingerbear · 28/02/2005 16:48

I love proper home cooked Spanish food too - spicy sausage casserole type stuff.

SeaShells · 28/02/2005 16:54

Definately Italian is my fave obviously, it's in my genes, yummy, love it

The best dinner I have ever had was in a chateau in France somewhere in the middle of nowhere half way between England and Biarritz. I could describe to this day the exact dishes and can conjure up the taste without too much trouble.
Actaully I have had a lot of fabulous lunches and dinners in France. Having said that, Italy can also cook up a storm when it wants to.
But then again, I remember as a child eating Satay (the real McCoy) at an open air restauarnt in Singapore City (near Beach Road) and thinking I was in heaven.

Cam · 28/02/2005 19:53

Oh and the best single meat dish I've ever had was in a restaurant on a Spanish mountain. Food has always been a big part of my life and I've spent a lot of time (and money) enjoying it. Then again, what about Dutch apple cake and olliebollen?
