Looking for slow cooker recipes that aren’t stew/casserole!

I’m looking for new recipes for the winter which I can cook in the slow cooker while I’m in work. We are tired of the usual stewed veg and meat.

Have tried beef stroganoff and curries, is there anything new you can suggest?

Thanks in advance!

Jacket potatoes. Just wash the potatoes, drizzle with olive oil, salt and pepper then put them in on high for around 4-5 hours.

I do jacket potatoes in the slow cooker too, but I leave a metal skewer or fork through them to get heat right inside them.

slow cooker pavlova is lovely.

stewed apples for crumble too, if you leave them all day.

pulled pork

I use my slow cooker loads (i take the dc to sports things most evenings, they want dinner asap when we get home). Our favourites at the moment are

Slow cooker chilli con carne/bolognese

Slow cooker gammon joint (then add maple glaze and whack it in the airfryer for 10 minutes to crisp up the top)

Beef and guiness stew

Pulled pork

Vegetarian curry.

Char siu pork

You can do a whole chicken. I sprinkle with gravy browning/granules, paprika etc so it doesn't look so aneamic!

Salt beef / pastrami! Swaddle salted brisket in baking paper, then foil as the outer layer. No water, no seasoning. Slow cooker for 8-10 hours. Shred and enjoy however you like it.

Beetroot.
Quince.
Orange for orange and almond cake.
Citrus - first cook for marmalade. Whizz in food processor then according to recipe.
Sponge cake/pound cake etc. it won’t brown but that’s not always necessary.
Bulk caramelised onion. Crack the lid half way through. Stir occasionally.
Christmas pudding. Tea towel under the lid.
Rice pudding. (In my 1.5l pot)
Porridge. (In my 1.5l pot).
Meat/chicken to be shredded and meal prepped/frozen
Stewed fruit.
Rice cooker.

The thing about a slow cooker is as it’s so much slower that you can get organised early and then forget about it. It can get you ahead of arsenic hour. It also can be plugged in anywhere there is a power point so need not clutter your bench top.

Watching for any vegetarian recipes...

I do a veggie shepherds pie filling in ours, but hardly ever use it otherwise.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 24/10/2026 14:03

I hadn't thought about doing fruit in it.

Schoolchoicesucks · 24/10/2026 14:26

Can you share the char sui pork recipe?

If you've not already thought of it, slow cookers are excellent at batch cooking dried pulses, which can then be frozen. Bold Bean quality for less than cheapo canned prices.

Kidney beans need a minimum of ten minutes hard boiling before transferring to a slow cooker, I believe it’s one of those things where you wish for death while it lasts.

Also cannellini, haricot ,butter beans, fava beans, soy beans, borlotti beans and flageolet beans, black beans, pinto beans all to a lesser extent, the small red beans like adzuku/chowri and lobia beans are apparently OK, as are chickpeas. If in in any doubt, boil them and it needs to be a proper boil, not a slow simmer. The slow cooker problem is that sometimes the beans do not reach 100C internally for long enough to denature the toxin.

soak a piece of ham to get rid of the salt, then put it in a slow cooker. Add a wine glass of cider, or if you don't have any, one of those children's cartons of apple juice. Add a couple of cloves to the juice, turn the slocooker on low and ignore it for 6 hours.

Appley, moist, slow cooked ham. 😋In this weather, serve with leeks and mustard mash.

ItalianChips · 24/10/2026 15:25

I made a beef curry yesterday and everyone loved it. In the week I chuck in mince and sauce/veg so I can come home to a bolognaise or chilli con carne.

I used to make the felafel and creme brulee from your first link, I'd forgotten all about them so must start again.

Greenjersey · 24/10/2026 15:32

Fake donner kebab
500g minced lamb
1 egg
2tsp garlic granules
1tsp each of chilli flakes, dried oregano, salt and pepper

Combine everything and squash into a fat sausage shape. Wrap tightly in foil and stab the parcel a couple of times. Lay in the slow cooker on 2 or 3 scrunched up foil balls. In mine it takes 4 -5 hours, first hour on high, but can be left longer.

Whole chicken
Lay on chopped veg with a splash of water. If you want you can brown it in a hot oven when cooked. Add the liquidised veg to gravy.

I just discovered you can use it to prove dough for bread.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 24/10/2026 16:53

Thanks for the bean info. Tbh, I'm probably far too lazy to soak and cook my own beans anyway.

Felafel and creme brulee, that's not a combination that I've ever considered.
