Can't use waitrose as there isn't one in the area and Morrisons has really poor reviews!

Hmm, pret go down well at work but they're not budget. I assume the number is too big to make them yourself? I hope someone else can help.

flinas · 09/10/2026 18:05

24 people. How long do you think they would take to make?

Hmm, no idea, sorry...is sainsbury an option? I guess you'd need 4 triangles per person to do it yourself, by the time you'd bought fillings and costed your time, platters are probably better. Does it have to be sandwiches?

brownbootsandhats · 09/10/2026 18:08

24 people
one round or two each ?
use soft butter as it spreads easiest and mix of white and wholemeal bread

cheese and pickle and tomato
humous and lettuce
egg mayo

it shouldn’t take half an hour to do nicely

Sainsbury’s do a vegetarian platter of 20 sandwich quarters for £14 which we had for a gathering recently. They were decent, not particularly amazing, but fine. For 24 people though you’d need several platters assuming that people might want at least 4 quarters each. So, you’d maybe need 4 to 6 platters, so £56 to £84.

We make sandwiches for 55-60 each year for a big picnic .With soft butter and fillings already made it doesn't take too long. For vegetarian we do cheese and celery and egg mayo. Both fillings are easily spreadable which makes it quicker to assemble. We do have a team of four, so a spreader, a filler, a cutter and lastly someone to add the garnish to the platters!

flinas · 09/10/2026 22:15

thank you everyone, this is really useful

An assembly line is a great idea.

I'd go cheese and pickle, hummus and roasted red pepper, egg and cress. Roast the peppers in thin slices in advance.

You could make 24 in an hour. Cheese and tomato, egg mayo, pesto tomato and mozzarella and coronation chickpea. I reckon you could do it for less than £30 yourself.

I’d avoid celery. It’s one of the big 14 allergens and people don’t expect it to be in a sandwich like cheese or eggs.

And it's watery green string.

This sounds like a really nice selection.

flinas · 09/10/2026 22:56

we have a sever nut allergy so can't do pesto, and 2 vegans

OP posts:
murasaki · 09/10/2026 23:15

You could use chopped basil rather than pesto.

Hmm, the chickpea one works for vegans maybe? Or something like that. Sliced vegan sausages? Smoked tofu and some salad?

Thatsanotherfinemess1 · 09/10/2026 23:18

Carrot and hummous, cream cheese and cucumber (and apple?) cheddar and pickle, roasted veg wraps, cheddar, carrot, spring onion and salad cream, egg mayo

MrsBennetsPoorNervesAreBack · 09/10/2026 23:45

The lazy option would be to buy a load of meal deals, take the sandwiches out of the packaging and cut them in half. Arrange on a nice serving platter. Crisps in dishes on the side. Small bottles of water or soft drinks for people as well.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 10/10/2026 10:55

It wouldn't take long to make.

I'd do

egg mayo with watercress

cream cheese and cucumber

squished onion bhajis or falafel with finely chopped red onion, mint and shredded lettuce

flinas · 10/10/2026 12:16

I'm thinking egg mayo and cress

Hummous and roasted red pepper

Cheese and cucumber

One fish - cream cheese and smoked salmon.

50% vegetarian and 2 vegan

Would there be something in this selection you like?

I can't cope with the idea of hummous in a sarnie, personally. It's a texture thing.

You don’t have to like them all - indeed that’s a good sign that OP has decent variety

Well, obviously. It was just an observation.

brownbootsandhats · 10/10/2026 12:43

As was my comment !

You can order freshly made platters from Subway. You’ll need to get in touch with your local store but they’re pretty good.
