Where can I find decent chocolate now supermarket brands taste poor?

‘Supermarket’ chocolate used to be fine for me but in recent months, I’ve really started to taste the difference - so much of it has been ruined. It’s horrible! I never understood what people were getting at when they talked about mouthfeel but I understand now. So all the big brands, Mars, Nestle, Cadbury… I just won’t waste my money on any more. Lindor is okay but a bit too rich for me. I do like Hotel Chocolat. Hu Hazlenut is delicious but £4 for 60g! Russell and Atwell looks interesting but I haven’t tried any.

Where can we find decent chocolate these days?

I really like the Aldi chocolate with hazelnuts in.

likelysuspect · 31/08/2026 18:53

Aldi and Lidl.

I agree with Aldi, their Moser Roth chocolate is good.

MustUseAName · 31/08/2026 18:57

Aldi but not their cheapest.

Starbri8 · 31/08/2026 18:57

Tesco do a large slab of own brand milk chocolate, I tried it recently for a recipe , wasn’t expecting much , it was delicious and had a higher coco content then some of the major brands .

Also Tony’s chocolate is yummy !! It’s got that mouth feel of old that we all miss.

EmpressaurusKitty · 31/08/2026 18:59

My favourite is the Montezuma Black 100% cocoa but you do have to work up to it.

Waitrose No1 bars are lovely

See I got one of these last week, the truffle filled bar I think it was, but it tasted slimy. I’ll try some of the thinner ones.

Another vote for Aldi or Lidl

M&S chocolate is lovely!

I’m very partial to their No.1 white chocolate ice cream since a recent thread, so will give them a try!

When my little one was 16 months old , she climbed up to a high cupboard and ate a bar of this ! DH and I couldn’t get a taste for it , she obviously has a more advanced palate then us !! she demolished the lot and poo’d what looked like tar for a week 😂

M&S the best by far

I buy the plain ones, not the filled.
The 85% one is my favourite.

My cat likes the smell & tries to get close whenever I’m having a bit. I let her sniff my fingers afterwards.

M&S is good as is green and black dark chocolate. If you don’t mind paying out, go online and order chocolarder or barbers chocolate. Both very unprocessed and taste Devine

SleepingisanArt · 31/08/2026 19:25

Lindt chocolate (not Lindor - too sweet) comes in a wide variety of flavours (my faves are fruit and nut and the dark orange). It's not cheap but I don't eat much in one sitting (often one square is enough).

EmptySupermarketSinger · 31/08/2026 19:35

Aldi, the best by far!

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 31/08/2026 19:52

LiDL. The dark chocolate is great

capelmustard · 31/08/2026 19:54

I like Green and Blacks 85% and the M&S 85%
If I ever want something sweeter I go for the M&S dark milk, I think it's 55% or similar

I keep trying to find good chocolate too. I had a toblerone recently and it was really good!

I am devastated they won't sell the dark chocolate on in UK any more.

Definitely try the thin ones I like the dark chocolate ones with orange. I tend to get the 5 pack of 20g for £2 as I lack willpower.
