What's your favourite soup?

Mines cream of tomato 🍅

Just had tomato and basil, it was nice, but no where near as good as cream of tomato.

It tasted a bit pasta sauce-ish.

Mine’s pea soup. Do you have a good recipe for cream of tomato?

From a tin Baxter’s Lentil and Bacon although it’s increasingly hard to find in Supermarkets.
From a carton Covent Garden Leek and Potato or Yorkshire Provinder Cauliflower and Kale.
Homemade either chicken and vegetable made with chicken carcasses or lentil and vegetable made with ham stock.
The lentil and lemon one upthread sounds delicious though.

beasmithwentworth · 13/05/2026 10:30

Yes the one that someone mentioned up thread. The greek lemon and chicken one. I made it with orzo instead of rice this week. Absolutely delicious.

Failing that I am strangely partial to a tin of Baxter’s minestrone but covered in baguette and melted cheese with a dash of Tabasco added 🫕

No 😂 I've been eating tinned soup.

I bet homemade is far nicer though.

I do have a huge bag of carrots in the fridge, I might have a go at making carrot and coriander soup.

@Owlmoonstar, noooooo not tinned! Soup is too easy to make and so much more delicious when home made that you’d never buy tinned again!

Well if that's the case then yeah. Although homemade is probably alot better for you. But, for me it's just a quick and easy dinner on after school activity nights!

Butternut squash -this one, which involves stilton, bacon and sage, but I don't put in as much cream as it says
Butternut squash and bacon soup recipe - Soup recipes
Tinned - Heinz cream of tomato
In a tub - Sainsbury's Moroccan chicken

Butternut squash and bacon soup

All this delicious butternut squash and bacon soup needs is a sprinkling of sage and a crumble of your favourite blue cheese.

Watercress

Crudd99 · 02/07/2026 19:46

Tom yum.

QueenofQuilting · 02/07/2026 19:54

Cauliflower & blue cheese. Creamy & delicious, probably as it was the first meal I ate after a major surgery

likelysuspect · 02/07/2026 19:57

Cullen Skink
French Onion (as long as its made with beef stock and brandy)
ME lentil soup

Thats all I like

Dont be giving me 'winter vegetable' or 'spring vegetable' or 'tomato and red pepper'

Dont waste your time on these.

Yellowpapersun · 02/07/2026 19:59

My own broccoli and stilton. Dead easy to make. I don't like tinned soup as I find it too salty.

Unforgettablefire · 02/07/2026 20:09

Tomato with cheese toasties 😋

OurLadyOfLeisure · 02/07/2026 20:24

My favourite soups that I/DH make are minestrone, potato and spring onion, pea and mint, cauliflower, broccoli and cheddar, or split pea and bacon.

But if I’m just buying a carton in a rush, I like cream of tomato, or the Yorkshire Provender spicy Moroccan chickpea.

Hawkweed · 02/07/2026 20:25

Sorry @likelysuspect but I do like red pepper and tomato.
800w microwave. 1.5 mugs full of soffritto (chopped carrot, onion and celery) in an uncovered bowl cooked on high for 4 mins. Add 1 deseeded then cubed red pepper, 6 cherry tomatoes, 1 chicken/veg stock cube, 1/2 mug water (variable according to thickness desired). Cover with a side plate and cook on high for 8 mins. Cool a bit then blitz. Sometimes I reserve a couple of TBS for texture. Serves 2.

EdinaTheConfessor · 02/07/2026 20:36

Homemade it had to be roasted butternut squash with garlic and sage.

Shop bought them I do like a Heinz cream of tomato too.

Jennalong · 02/07/2026 20:39

A chunky soup . Leek & Potato or Vegetable , I don't eat meat but will eat fish occasionally .
We live on the scottish borders and went to Selkirk today and just outside there is Abbotsford ( the house of Sir Walter Scott ) and had a lovely Cullen Skink there .
