Savoury breakfast for weightloss ideas BUT

NoCereal · 27/02/2026 15:13

I can’t eat eggs, tomatoes or mushrooms.

I’m trying to lose weight and have been advised that regularly skipping breakfast for 30odd years hasn’t been very good for me and to try breakfast daily.
I just don’t know what to eat. My usual first foods don’t appeal first thing in the morning.

Unsweetened peanut butter on wholemeal toast plus a piece of fruit? Although I think the advice that you have to eat breakfast is outdated.

I said about the advice being outdated to the nurse but as I’m overweight I feel like she doesn’t really think I know what I’m talking about.

With eggs it’s a flavour and texture thing. If a cake is really eggy I can’t eat it, but I do like other cakes.

If you don't want breakfast, don't eat it?

I have to lose weight it’s non negotiable so am trying to be open to what the GP surgery are suggesting.

Who exactly is saying breakfast is outdated?

Chia pudding? Doesn't need to be sweet. That might be a bad texture for you if you don't like porridge though.

Bulgar wheat cooked in chicken stock actually sounds like a pretty good option. You could put some veg in it too if you want to be healthier.

I might give the bulgar wheat a go with some herbs and vegetables. It’s quick enough not be be annoying. Thanks.

I think the advice is based on the idea of people not eating breakfast despite being hungry and then snacking later as a result. But if you're not hungry then I don't think there is any benefit.

I’m not saying breakfast is outdated just that it’s possible not to eat it and still lose weight. Although I suppose I’m not an advert for skipping it!

Loads of women lose weight doing IF which means they won't eat breakfast first thing either.

11ish sounds absolutely fine!

How about fish, chicken, or a dukan pancake with savoury topping? (You can replace the egg if you cant manage it in a pancake.

Crikeyalmighty · 27/02/2026 15:44

very thin pikelets - 50 calories each - 3 of these -top with a scraping of low fat cream cheese - Waitrose sell , I’m sure others must

This is old fashioned advice though. You are not fat because you don't eat breakfast.

She’s wrong. You don’t need to eat breakfast; lots of people don’t. Is she trying to say that you need to eat three meals a day? Most women struggle to lose weight if they do that because so many things are calorie dense these days. It’s much easier if you do something like one small meal, one large meal, one snack.

KatsPJs · 27/02/2026 15:54

How about savoury muffins? They won’t be too eggy and you can add any combination of veg/cheese/herbs you like. You can batch make them and then heat as needed.

I know, I been thinking and fat and have never eaten breakfast really.
As I say, I HAVE to lose weight and so I’m just trying to show willing to the nurse. She thinks it will help me eat less later.
I lost three stone by sorting out my mental health and cutting out most junk. It’s just I need to lose another three but have plateaued for a year and the nurse doesn’t seem to believe that I’m not eating chocolate and takeaways all day.

@NoCereal I am T2 and have benefitted from NHS education & coaching and intermittent fasting I.e. only eating between 12:00 and 20:00 is one option.

I have also overhauled my diet so I’m low ish carbs and high protein.

It works for me but weight loss is very slow.

I would also look at the order you eat food e.g. veg then protein then carbs.

Greenegg24 · 27/02/2026 16:13

When I lost two stone I ate one toasted crumpet with marmite and a slice of leerdammer cheese everyday. Kept me full till lunch.

Thanks. I generally only eat between 11:30/12 and 7/8pm.
I’ve lowered my blood sugar by losing three stone which I’m happy with. It’s just I seem to be stuck. My GP is taking a sort of soft approach due to mental health issues. Feeling bad about my weight is a big trigger for me and mentally I’m better than I have been in years. I was suicidal two years ago.
However my blood pressure is really high and so I need to get more weight off. I really want to show the nurse I’m trying as I don’t think she thinks I am.

@NoCereal You have done brilliantly to lose 3 stone. I found you do plateau for a while.

Have a look at XPERT Health www.xperthealth.org.uk which is for diabetics. The handbook is intended to be re-read and each time I read it I make a small change to my diet. It’s about making changes for life not a quick fix.

Don't let the nurse bring you down you can do this.

Hellohelga · 27/02/2026 16:40

You’re trying to lose weight by adding a meal. Do you know that losing weight involves eating less?
ETA stick with skipping breakfast as it has worked for you so far.

imakomododragon · 27/02/2026 16:45

Toast and cottage cheese with a teaspoon of honey on and some pine nuts.
That's my regular SW friendly breakfast.

Edited

We not if the nurse has told her to have breakfast because she is way overweight due to binge eating as the day goes on

being overweight suggests that her eating routine isn’t working

TheFormidableMrsC · 27/02/2026 16:48

I don’t have breakfast but I do have a larger lunch. I’d just skip it personally.

Renamed · 27/02/2026 16:53

Miso soup with noodles?

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 27/02/2026 17:10

Avocado on toast - lovely with a bit of lemon or lime juice and a few chilli flakes

Maybe batch cook some sweetcorn or sweet potato fritters? I think Slimming World have a recipe for sweet potato ones.

disappearingfish · 27/02/2026 17:12

Any food is breakfast food if you eat it at breakfast time! I often have bolognese with cheese for breakfast if it’s left over from the night before (without the pasta).

What foods do you like to eat? Just eat them!

TheChosenTwo · 27/02/2026 17:14

I’ve never eaten breakfast, not since I was about 7 anyway. Just can’t stomach food until around midday, do sometimes have a weekend brunch about 11:30 but not often.
have been between 9 stone and 16 stone throughout the years. I don’t think this is about breakfast.
If you don’t want it, don’t eat it!
