M & S Valentine’s dinner reviews…

I enjoyed the Christmas review thread so much that I figured I’d see if anyone else has had an M & S dinner tonight!

Bonus points for photos.
We’ve already eaten ours… !!

Having an early night then (snigger) !

Moveyourbleedingarse · 14/02/2026 19:09

I bought it for DD and DH as I'm not bothered about eating a big evening meal.

Cold meat and cheese is lovely for snacking for a few days.

I cooked the steak and they had it with some mushrooms, asparagus and fries. DD said it was delicious.

Got the mash on the side to use another day and the lemon possets which I'll give to my dad as he likes puddings.

DH has drunk the IPAs.

I always buy these things with an eye to stretching it out for a few days.

Would have preferred the Waitrose one for the negroni, but everything seemed to have cheese in it somewhere. Bleugh.

ChristmasLightsLover · 14/02/2026 19:09

We had Chicken Kiev, triple cooked chips, and peas. I had gravy with mine because I am from The Blessed North and it is the law to have gravy with anything potato based. For dessert we have the individual lemon tarts.

The Chicken Kiev has a tiny bone in the end and was 10/10. We LOVED it! Will
definitely buy it again.

The triple cooked chips were fine. We’ve had them before. I’m mostly grateful that they are proper chunky chips because skinny fries don’t work so well with gravy…

Peas were our own.

We never manage a whole tart each in one sitting. I think it would be better with a crème fraiche. Maybe something lime?

We are also proud of ourselves for this Kiev choice because we usually default to the steak pie for fancy ready dinners at home.

Fingers crossed this is a thread and I’m not out on a limb!

*I mean cheese in a place it shouldn't be. Such as with seafood.

ChristmasLightsLover · 14/02/2026 19:12

@oncemoreuntothebeachdearfriends

Hahahaha. Not in that sense. An early night is on the horizon though because I am peri menopausal and lots of sleep is the epicentre of me managing to function!

We had the prawn and lobster gratin, beef wellington and dolphin nose potatoes, and pistachio and chocolate dessert. Really good, and exceptional value at £12.50 per head.

ChristmasLightsLover · 14/02/2026 19:15

@Moveyourbleedingarse

We have not had the lemon possets but I did like the look of them.

M and S mash is lovely. I have grated cheese and mixed it in before now to be extra lush.

We also buy them on pay day weekend and stretch them out to make fancy dinners…

@Nereidd

That sounds lovely! I have never seen beef wellington in their food deals, or heard of dolphin nose potatoes. I’m now going to google them!

We are having a mish mash tonight as dh really fancied beef wellington and m and s didn’t have any
so Waitrose starter , prawns and garlic scallops, Waitrose beef wellington and m and s dauphinoise and tender stem broccoli
m and s profiteroles
can confirm that the m and s pink wine is lovely

3smallpups · 14/02/2026 19:21

Then we have m and s focaccia and Camembert, steak with peppercorn sauce and Waitrose tiramisu tomorrow
plus another nice bottle of wine !

ChristmasLightsLover · 14/02/2026 19:22

@Nereidd

Did you mean dauphinois potatoes when you wrote dolphin nose? :)) Just had some fun googling them thinking I’d missed out on something!!

We tried the Tom Kerridge steak pie with beef dripping chips and melt in the middle chocolate puds.

The steak pie was ruined by the random and gross addition of smoked bacon that I didn’t spot. Aka nitrates (ew) and an unwelcome weird taste to what should be a rich beef flavour. I’d assume they’ve done it to save money on the beef. Won’t bother again.

The chips were too hard and hollow. Rubbish.

The chocolate pud was ok but a bit bitter.

Sad all round tbh. I wanted to not cook for a day but my pies are way better and cheaper so it looks like I don’t get days off.

MoiraPlunkett · 14/02/2026 19:23

Peas were our own.

This made me laugh aloud - reminded me of models in magazines: "shoes - model's own'.

Sorry, nothing else to contribute - I was enjoying the meals vicariously since DH and I were using up boring leftovers tonight.

Dearg · 14/02/2026 19:25

We had the rump with peppercorn sauce and triple cooked chips last night - with roasted broccoli . Very good although the sauce was blander than I like. 9/10

Tonight was the lobster/ prawn Thermidor, which we had with crusty bread 9/10; we then had the salted caramel profiteroles, which were fine, but a mistake as DH doesn’t like caramel. I should have got the cheese cake. 7/10

The Rose wine is in the fridge as we had red last night, and a Cremant which I already had tonight. So 10/10 for wine.

It would all have been too rich for one meal, but I thought overall it was pretty good.

Called dolphin nose in our house too !!! Smile

oncemoreuntothebeachdearfriends · 14/02/2026 19:25

Dolphin nose potatoes don't go well with spaghetti bollock-naked, but are fine with beef burglars.

ChristmasLightsLover · 14/02/2026 19:27

@MoiraPlunkett

Yes!

In the interests of ‘journalistic authenticity’ I should say that they were Tesco petit pois from our freezer and not home grown. More
home microwaved…

🤣 I thought the same!! Although we may be doing ‘our own’ creamed spinach!!

Haven’t even thought about a starter yet, or taken the steak out of the fridge, let alone managing to have a three course meal!! I’m impressed!!

roses2 · 14/02/2026 19:33

Had the sirloin, wasn't impressed - they had a stale blood taste despite me brining them in salt overnight and leaving them to rest after cooking. The pistachio and chocolate bombs looked amazing in the photo but were sold out in my local! Were they good?

3smallpups · 14/02/2026 19:48

The m and s dolphin nose potato was great
Waitrose beef wellington v nice , tender meat and nice mushroom flavour
could have done without the paper underneath but that was a dh issue not a Waitrose one 🙈

Edited

We had them and they were very nice but the day after we'd eaten them we got an email saying they were very sorry but they had been accidentally labelled as vegetarian when they in fact contain pork gelatine, which has really pissed me off.

That is really bad! Have they offered you a voucher or anything to say 'sorry'?

ChristmasLightsLover · 14/02/2026 20:07

@DiscoCuntCode

I appreciate that mistakes do happen. But that is an awful one to make. It will impact customer confidence in their products for the longer term…

MassiveOvaryaction · 14/02/2026 20:13

I fancied loads of the options but I'd have been eating alone as dh is lactose intolerant and everything had dairy in (except the vegan which had butternut which he hates).

@DiscoCuntCode that's shocking. Glad we didn't bother!
