Pancakes ideas (Scottish style)

Macadamian · 07/02/2026 16:17

Shrove Tuesday soon!

We're Scottish so it won't be crepes, it'll be the thick fluffy type pancakes. No good with lemon and sugar like crepes are.

What's your favourite sweet toppings for these types of pancakes?

Previously we've had:
Berries/honey
Stewed pears and cinnamon
Banana and toffee sauce

Looking for something new this year 😋

Cold and slathered in salted butter is the best.

Golden syrup and banana.
Chocolate drops / buttons and scooty cream.

Snorlaxo · 07/02/2026 16:27

Nutella and sliced banana goes down well here

SargeMarge · 07/02/2026 16:38

Toffee sauce, chocolate sauce, vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, strawberries and salted pretzels!

SargeMarge · 07/02/2026 16:41

That’s pudding. But for dinner - crispy chicken on top pancakes with a warmed up chilli honey sauce and a wee green salad.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 07/02/2026 16:50

Savoury- roast mushrooms and broccoli rolled up
Sweet - syrup and bananas

77Fee · 07/02/2026 16:52

Nutella if you can find any in the original recipe. The new stuff isn't as nice.

Butter and raspberry jam would be my next suggestion. Keep it simple.

Aldi have a Dubai chocolate spread in a jar.

Macadamian · 07/02/2026 19:20

Agree butter and jam is the best, but I feel it's more with a cup of tea in the afternoon and not so much pudding.

Thank you for all the suggestions! I guess the Nutella would melt... 🤔 We actually love Bon Maman hazelnut spread - it's nicer than Nutella and it's always on offer coming up to pancake day!
@SargeMarge your ice cream pretzel idea sounds mental! Will definitely offer that one!

We are having ‘strawberry tart stacks’ this year.
Fluffy scotch pancake, whipped cream, strawberries, strawberry sauce (from the local bakers) and a sprinkle of shortbread on top.

cotedazur28 · 07/02/2026 20:18

Berry compote made with frozen berries, Greek yogurt, fresh strawberries and raspberries. Delicious!

Drop scones. Butter. Sorted.

A Scot.

It’s actually nicer without the strawberries but I insist that the kids have to have some kind of fruit 😂

I’m Scottish too. But we can make it more fun than that.

I do have to confess that I love our pancakes with just a bit of butter.

However, my son is partial to Nutella and bananas or strawberries, or hazlenut cream with roasted hazlenuts on top. Both of which, to be fair, he'd also have with crepes.

ThreeB · 08/02/2026 19:03

Got to go proper Pancake Place St Andrews style and do butter and maple syrup with an Irn Bru float

Hazelnut cream? How have I never heard of this... 🤔

Take yourself to M&S!

Ahh! Regrettably it would take me 5 hours to get to Inverness and back, and £40 of fuel. The hazelnut cream would have to be VERY good 🤣

Ooft, well maybe not then. Although amazon do sell it.

I got a jar when we were in Italy and it calls my name every time I walk past the cupboard it in. But yes, M&S now sell it.

Google tells me that Morrisons sell white chocolate and hazlenut version. However, I've also just learned that Jane's Patisserie has a recipe for said cream - that might work out a bit more efficient than 5 hours and £40 of petrol!

ChocoChocoLatte · 08/02/2026 19:41

Bacon and maple syrup

JerryJacksonitsroughoutthereNsoul · 08/02/2026 19:56

Blackcurrant jam on warm pancakes😋

Och perhaps not then. We are off to do the NC500 over Easter, I must stockpile cola Colin the Caterpillars for DH before we depart 🫣🤣.

M&S Hazelnut Cream is very nice , a bit like the middle of a Bueno Bar . Bu I haven't seen it in our M&S for a while .
They do a Pistachio Cream which is also delicious but a fugly colour .
As my DD would say "Best eaten in the dark" Grin
