Tonight: Marry me chicken
Tomorrow: fresh pasta with pesto and garden salad
Tues: stuffed peppers and salad
Wed: chilli and lime salmon with noodles
Thurs: chickpea, aubergine, tahini traybake

HedwigHedgepig · 12/07/2026 17:47

Today: homemade potato salad (Felicity Cloake's 'perfect' recipe), homemade cheese and leek pasties from the freezer stash, higgidy cheese and onion rolls for the kids and a pile of salad bits
Mon: paneer and potato curry with naan
Tue: veggie 'meat' burgers with black bean chimichurri salad
Wed: mezze and Greek salad
Thu: pizza and chips
Fri: halloumi, red pepper and hummus burgers, maybe with wedges?
Sat: I'm out, they can fend for themselves!

I'm not expecting this week to be a hit with the kids but fuck it, someone always complains about something so I might as well do what I fancy :)

I didn’t get to the shop while at home, so ate a chunk of hot smoked salmon with chilli as my “dinner” (I’d had a whopper junior meal in BK as I went through the airport for lunch). I did have Mon, Wed and Wed alternative during the week although on different days. And I made a proper steak dinner on Friday, with baby roasties and roasted tomatoes.

Yesterday I only got to the small shop so got lardons and mushrooms, and I had a couple of cartons of milk needing using and a block of cheddar, so I made a large batch of mac’n’cheese (with lardons, mushrooms, peppers, onion, garlic and peas) - for last night and 2 freezer portions.

I had to spend a lot of today at work so I was late shopping - so feta chicken thighs, roasties and roasted tomatoes for dinner today.

Tomorrow is buffalo chicken wings with the last of my buffalo sauce from home (I need to get some kind of blue cheese for the dip - but that’s a corner shop thing here) and oven chips.

Tuesday I have salmon and spinach.
Wednesday will be the chicken and mushrooms (from freezer) with rice.
Thursday I plan chicken fajitas with HM guacamole.
Friday I may go out, or I have another steak, or chick thighs, or makings of risotto or nasi goreng (it all depends how much energy I will have) - or the chicken Kiev I have in the freezer “for emergencies” (not a thing here so one of the treats I occasionally bring back) and oven chips.

Yesterday was a delicious bbq of marinated king prawns, steak and fake, bbq’d feta with veg and chilli and dill dressing, and the ubiquitous peach and burrata salad. A friend brought a delicious mixed seed sourdough

tonight: an Anna Jones aubergine and halloumi recipe but adding some beans to it
tomorrow: more steak and fake! Def with roasties and will come up with something interesting to do with broccoli
Wednesday: doing carbonara for the meat eaters? I think a cabbage version for non?
Thursday&Friday: I’m out so the others can sort themselves

Lastqueenofscotland2 · 20/07/2026 08:29

This week

Friday was Paella
Saturday: lemony white bean pasta
Sunday: Mumsnet massive salad
Monday: DP cooking
Tuesday: jerk tofu with rice and peas
Wednesday: West African peanut stew
Thursday: creamy white beans on sourdough

I haven't updated here for ages as life has been a bit of a whirlwind. Unfortunately both my bank balance and waistline are showing the effects of unplanned eating so I'm getting back on track, at least for the next 5 days and then we're off on hols.

Tonight: Shakshuka
Tomorrow: Spaghetti carbonara
Sunday: Chicken, quinoa, feta traybake thing with broccoli
Monday: Roast pepper pasta
Tuesday: Cheese and onion quiche and salad.

BiddyPopthe2nd · 25/07/2026 09:13

I had pizza (fennel salami, olives, onions and Roquefort cheese…I’m emptying odds and sods from the fridge) instead of chicken and mushrooms - and a pasta bake from freezer last night (so no cooking, much needed!), but the rest of the week went as planned.

This morning, I am having a “breakfast salad” without the leaves that my local cafe sells back home - bacon, chunks of black pudding, potatoes (leftover from salmon dinner) and tomatoes all fried up together.

I have taken out a steak and chicken thighs for this weekend (chicken I plan to do Greek lemon and herb version). Probably mushrooms fried with garlic and thyme for the steak, and mixed Mediterranean veg with chicken (I have a courgette, couple of peppers, onion, garlic and tomatoes to be used).

This week, I plan:
Pasta carbonara style (or experiment with cacci e pepi style if I’m brave)
chicken Kiev and oven chips
salmon and spinach
spag Bol or butter chicken curry

And then I have 5 more days before I go on holidays, which I think I can do from fridge emptying and freezer options. Just need some milk and maybe some mushrooms for groceries between now and then.

Meal planning has bren a bit hit and miss with family visiting, trips away etc! I think this week i will try use some of what is lurking but I might have to feed people tonight spontaneously.

We have loads of tortilla and wraps that must be eaten and left over avocado's so I might pick up steaks and do tacos tonight - makes steak go a LOT further! 🤣🤣.

I have leftover roast lamb in freezer so lamb and aubergine curry one night.

Also.left over roast chicken un freezer so perhaps a chicken and pea risotto one night.

And some cooking chorizo from.when i thought i was feeding a lot of people but turned out just to be us, so a tomatoe and chorizo pasta!

Sorted for next few days. Cheap too as spent a fortune on holiday!

murasaki · 25/07/2026 15:45

Mon: cheese and ham filled tortellini, asparagus and bacon bits in a garlic lemon butter sauce
Tues: out
Weds: hottest day of the week so halloumi, new potato , baby spinach and bacon salad with baguette
Thurs: pie for him, prawns for me, chips, salad.

HedwigHedgepig · 25/07/2026 19:54

Out of energy this week, caved and had a takeaway for dinner tonight. Kids had a freezer sweet potato daal that I made a while ago, so I at least get some brownie points for that!

Little one is currently cutting 3 molars and is fussy with food at the moment. Would happily eat bread all day but I suspect he'd end up with scurvy if I let him. I've leaned into his need for some easy food this week (and mine, let's not kid ourselves).

S: shop bought quiche and new potatoes
M: veggie chilli and rice (mountain of cheese for me please!)
T: eggs in purgatory and bread
W: pizza and potato something, probably more new potatoes
T: Quorn fajitas
F: veggie nuggets and chips
S: freezer fallback

Basically shakshuka without the spices and peppers - eggs poached in a tomato sauce. Suspect fussy kids won't entertain my usual Hairy Bikers shakshuka recipe this week, so giving Nigella's EiP recipe a whirl!

Tell me more about bhaji burgers! Do you make your own? Just whack it in a bun? What else goes in? Sounds like a great idea.....

I use Dean Edwards recipe. Always turns out well. Sometimes have it in a bun or smaller bhajis and have in a rice bowl with cucumber and mango chutney, salad leaves, rice or noodles.

murasaki · 26/07/2026 16:27

Thanks, DP is well up for trying it! I will look at Dean Edwards and he can make them....

murasaki · 26/07/2026 16:29

Today is no longer pizza but is chicken breast wrapped in bacon, stuffed with brie, spinach and garlic, dauphinoise spuds and asparagus. More Sunday ish.

I had to add two days to the existing plan - baked chicken, new potatoes, veg (yorkshire pudding for DD).

"Green" gnocchi - homemade pesto, greens, burrata and creme fraiche.

Makelikeatreeandleaf · 28/07/2026 16:46

I've been useless at planning (and cooking generally) for ages. Dd's on holiday at the moment, so only need to please myself and in an effort to reduce the crisps and wine dinners, I WILL be having:
Stuffed peppers and salad (yesterday's)
Frittata
Tofu chow mein
Turkish lentil soup - not v seasonal but emptying the freezer ready to restock for Autumn Term
Halloumi and roasted veg flatbread
Tofu kati rolls
