Which are the best mince pies?

I’ve always made my own, from scratch but I’m widowed now so I can’t be bothered to make them.

Can you recommend some nice ones please? I don’t like them too sweet.

I like Lidl ones, the deluxe range

Plump82 · 14/12/2025 05:26

Greggs. We love them!

Trallers · 14/12/2025 05:35

Would you consider half-way homemade? Nice roll out pastry and a good jar of filling mixed with freshly chopped clementines. The clementines made such a difference to the jar mix and the whole thing is very quick.

Edited because I forgot to actually say why I suggest this, which is that in my experience it is far less sweet than all the shop bought ones.

Nourishinghandcream · 14/12/2025 05:51

Personally I can't stand mince pies but I bought some Sainsbury's Taste The Difference ones last week and my OH was raving about them.

adviceatthislatestage · 14/12/2025 06:11

DH and I love mince pies.

Over the past few weeks, we’ve had some from Asda, Sainsbury’s and Tesco .

So far the winner for us is Tesco Finest. Not the mini ones, but the standard size ones. Lovely buttery pastry and a good amount of filling. Not too sweet either.

Am happy to try mince pies from all the other supermarkets and report back 😂

jomaIone · 14/12/2025 06:16

Another vote for Lidl ones, I get the mini ones for the kids who love them! And we have the normal size ones either normal pastry or the crumble topped ones! Sooooo good

EleanorReally · 14/12/2025 06:17

i didnt like the sainsbury's taste the difference, as it had brandy in it
i like tesco finest
apparently asda finest, or whatever they call themselves, are the best

Spaceman101 · 14/12/2025 06:23

I really like the Sainsbury's ones you buy from the bakery section. They come in a pack of four in clear packaging.

NoMoreHotHols · 14/12/2025 06:25

I only buy M&S all butter ones. The ‘all butter’ is generally better but the other brand ones I tried I didn’t like that much.
Seeing the variety in replies you’ll just have to go around the shops and try them all yourself, anyway. 😁

Logoplanter · 14/12/2025 06:44

Oooh I've bought loads to try and find the best ones.

I've done:
M & S all butter
Aldi
Lidl
Tesco
Asda
Sainsbury's

The supermarket ones are all their finest range or whatever they are called.

I loved the Sainsbury's ones and DH loved Asda ones 🤷

Also tried the rum and raisin finest 4 pack from Tesco and thought they were brilliant, but expensive for only 4. You got 6 in all the other packets. Probably my favourite though.

Tried various "normal" supermarket ones and nothing to write home about and with all the offers on at the moment they are only a few pric pence cheaper anyway.

Also tried Mr Kipling deep filled ones and thought they weren't bad at all, but depends on how much filling to pastry ratio you like.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 14/12/2025 07:30

Sainsbury’s Taste the Difference. I have to ration myself, as I could easily eat a whole packet. Not too sweet.

Inlimboin50s · 14/12/2025 07:35

I bought Greggs as I remember loving them last year. Warmed up in the oven they're delicious, really good pastry.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 14/12/2025 07:55

I like the Greggs ones, but I gave some to my daughter and her husband and they didn’t like them. Weirdos.

Iceland Luxury All Butter

ByQuaintAzureWasp · 14/12/2025 08:06

Home made

fizzyroselemonade · 14/12/2025 08:08

Agree that the Greggs ones are the best

GrumpySparkler · 14/12/2025 08:09

Lidl deluxe
Closely followed by Sainsburys taste the difference

I really like the Sainsbury's ones you buy from the bakery section. They come in a pack of four in clear packaging.

I second these. They're much nicer than the ones in the card boxes. They've been my favourite for years now, I think it's the pastry that swings it for me 😁

MarmotMorning · 14/12/2025 08:16

I much prefer the freshly made ones from the bakery part of store - usually in a clear plastic box. The pastry is nicer and not as sweet as the ones in cardboard boxes off the shelf.

FollowSpot · 14/12/2025 08:19

Sainsbury’s TtD all butter mini mince pies.

Ds and I did a taste test yesterday.

In previous years Iceland all butter were winners but the pastry on the Sainsbury’s is the best.

watermybegonias · 14/12/2025 08:22

Another vote for Greggs - I was really surprised!

goingtotown · 14/12/2025 08:22

Sainsbury’s pack of 4 from the bakery, they’re in a different league from the boxed mince pies.

berlinbaby2025 · 14/12/2025 08:24

Brown butter mince pies from Waitrose.

FestiveBauble · 14/12/2025 08:25

M&S all butter, Daylesford and Konditor are my top three!

Sweetiedarling7 · 14/12/2025 08:28

Waitrose limoncello mince pies.
Far above any other mince pie I have ever tasted.
