Which are the best mince pies?

I’ve always made my own, from scratch but I’m widowed now so I can’t be bothered to make them.

Can you recommend some nice ones please? I don’t like them too sweet.

I’m told by my sister (who loves them) that the Waitrose limoncello mince pies are very sweet. I am addicted to Waitrose brown butter mince pies with cognac. They’re not cheap, but they really are good!

Waitrose won the Good Housekeeping I think and their Brown Butter No1 are indeed delicious. The M&S Collection ones have lovely pastry but the filling is not great. Haven’t tried Sainsburys etc.

The very best however are home made!

Lidl deluxe mini mince pies!

We tried the Asda caramel florentine mince pies this week which were absolutely delicious. My usual favourites are the We Love Cake gluten, wheat and milk free mince pies. We don’t have any dietary restrictions but these have the nicest firm pastry.

I don’t like the M&S ones. Too crumbly and too sweet.

Thanks everyone.

Another vote for Waitrose Brown butter mince pies. Or Waitrose Frangipane mince pies.
As a general rule they should be all butter otherwise they are not nice.

Homemade every time. Any you won't eat can be given to friends and family. And I always add stuff to mincemeat, apples, nuts etc. delicious.

surrey321 · 14/12/2025 11:42

Cook! As in the posh freezer shop.. they’re not frozen though! They are absolutely delicious, taste & look homemade!

CheeseandGherkins · 14/12/2025 11:55

What are the sweetest ones? I much prefer sweeter although apparently that isn’t common judging by responses!

Tryingtokeepgoing · 14/12/2025 12:10

The ones from Gail’s are on another level, though at £16 for 6 they should be :)

ImWearingPantaloons · 14/12/2025 12:12

The M&S ones with the icing on top.

If you’re going to do sweet, you may as well do super sweet.

Greggs. 🥇

EleanorReally · 14/12/2025 20:58

Larymarylary · 16/12/2025 19:00

I’ve just eaten two of Lidl’s mince pies and they weren’t bad at all. Thanks for all the suggestions.

Sainsburys ones are nice, so are there mini ones with brandy in. Greggs ones are delicious too.

Garamond55 · 16/12/2025 19:12

Morrisons regular in the clear packaging are the favourite in our house

HoratioBum · 16/12/2025 19:33

The single ones you can get from M&S bakery are next level.

MIAMNER · 16/12/2025 19:42

Someone bought these for DH (who doesn’t eat mince pies do I snaffled them all) and thereby ruined supermarket mince pies for me forever more 😭 konditor.co.uk/products/1-box-of-12-mince-pies

Tonty · 16/12/2025 19:43

Costco ones. Don't care what anyone else says. Drench them in cream, custard even fresh milk, yum!

fancytoes · 16/12/2025 19:44

‘Konditor and Cook’ make the best.

SisterMaryLuke · 16/12/2025 19:49

I prefer Booths. They are flatish - not keen on deep filled pies and they aren't too sweet.

Christmashatglee · 16/12/2025 19:50

Starbucks mince pies are the best. They had a couple of years where they did not sell them.So I would really appreciate all your help with buying and scoffing them, so they bring them back next year 😋

Carlathomasillneverstoplovingyou · 16/12/2025 19:54

Asda puff pastry ones.

Greggs. We love them!
