Substitute for goats cheese in this recipe for Parma ham bundles please

I love these Parma ham bundles and want to serve them with drinks when I have friends round in a couple of days. However my DH and one of the guests don’t like anything’goaty’.
My fall back is a soft cheese like Philadelphia but that doesn’t have the same body as creamy goats cheese. I don’t want the herbs and garlic that come with Boursin, and I’m not sure Feta or ricotta are right either. Not sure hard cheese work. Any ideas please?

Brie
Camembert
Taleggio
Dolcelatte
Gorgonzola

Paysan Breton cream cheese is lovely. I wouldn’t recommend a feta, as often people who don’t like goat cheese also don’t like sheep cheese. It will be too salty with the ham anyway. Boursin do a black pepper version which would be nice.

BuffaloCauliflower · 10/11/2025 18:47

Brie or Camembert would work well

MrsSkylerWhite · 10/11/2025 18:47

Squeaky cheese?

Talkinpeace · 10/11/2025 18:50

This
its a semi fresh cheese that has very similar texture to goats cheese but without the tang

If they have it in, Lidl has a mountain cheese usually for Christmas that would work, a tangy Brie. Otherwise a stronger Camembert

Chewbecca · 10/11/2025 18:51

Brie / camembert or Manchego would be nice.

SilkiePenguin · 10/11/2025 18:52

Mozzarella

I would avoid anything salty with ham

ImogenBrocklehurst · 10/11/2025 18:53

Feta? White Stilton?

Talkinpeace · 10/11/2025 18:54

White stilton is a good call

Where are you getting the black pepper Boursin? I love it as the filling in a chicken Kiev type thing, but nowhere seems to sell it anymore.

Thank you, this sounds ideal. I know Camembert or Brie would be ok, but it’s the soft cheese feel that makes these work, for me anyway.
thank you

Mozzarella

Talkinpeace · 10/11/2025 19:52

Mozzarella goes stringy

a fresh curd cheese will be slightly crumbly and complement the meat well

Seaside3 · 10/11/2025 20:42

Ive made these with clue cheese, the saltiness works well.
Or grind black pepper into some soft cheese.

osloslow · 10/11/2025 20:53

Burrata?

Arregaithel · 10/11/2025 21:13

could not possibly forgo the goats cheese @OMGitsnotgood 😊

how about prosciutto/parma wrapped prunes fer the heathens other guests

Brie
Camembert
Taleggio
Dolcelatte
Gorgonzola

Gorgonzola dolce would be perfect. I'm veggie - what could I substitute for the ham?

Well it would be quite different, but thin slices of grilled courgette or aubergine would be delicious.

I know, the goats cheese is perfect for these isn’t it. I am now thinking I will make some with goats cheese and some with one of the other suggestions for the heathens!

If you look online you should be able to find a sheep's cheese with a similar texture. It's a lot milder in taste than goat's cheese.

We get ours from our local food festival which, being in Somerset, has loads of different cheeses.

It isn't being cooked in this recipe.

I think mozzarella would be perfect in this recipe because the it is mild tasting, and the ham doesn't need any competing flavours.

I love goat's cheese, but don't think it should be paired with parma ham anyway.

Ooooo taleggio.
I want some now. I've not seen that anywhere for ages. mind you not looked.

Mascrapone. Definitely. That is an amazing soft cheese or cream cheese substitute. For sweet and savoury dishes.

Or creme fresh. However they spell it?!
