Need some inspiration for lunch/dinner today.

Haven't had done one for ages but doing Sunday lunch. Usually do roast chicken but I've had some braising steak in slow cooker since 8am and it smells amazing. Will be roast potatoes, parsnips, carrots, savoy cabbage, stuffing and Yorkshire puddings to accompany. I would also choose cauli cheese but no one else here bothered about it!

Chicken Maryland with carrots and parsnips.

TheGriffle · 03/08/2025 10:56

I’ve got some thin pork loin steaks and was planning on cooking them in gravy and having with veg, yorkies and mash. We did a roast chicken last week, first time in weeks and that was a big hit.

Femalefootyfan · 03/08/2025 10:57

Lamb steaks, new potatoes, green veg medley mix thing from Tesco and swede and carrots, topped with mint sauce and gravy, we’ll eat around 6pm.

HoneyHoneyHowYouThrillMe · 03/08/2025 10:58

Lamb noisette
Smashed garlic thyme potatoes
Steamed savoy cabbage and carrots

Forgottenmyphone · 03/08/2025 11:18

Upside down tomato tart and green salad

cupfinalchaos · 03/08/2025 12:03

Whatever we fancy tonight probably Dover sole as on a cruise but tomorrow night at home will be crackers and cheese no doubt🤣

PestoHoliday · 03/08/2025 12:04

Salmon and green beans traybake with cherry tomatoes and olives - an old Jamie Oliver recipe but great with the fresh beans from th garden and new potatoes

BishopOakAntiques · 03/08/2025 12:06

Homemade bread, smoked mackerel and salad for lunch, and slow cooked beef short ribs with wild mushrooms for dinner :-)

JDM625 · 03/08/2025 12:11

Roast chicken. I recently bought Ottolenghi's simple recipe book so might do Marbella Chicken with veg and salads.

I have a lot of veg growing in the garden that I'll try using- potatoes, runner beans, aubergine, trombochini, courgette, tomato and cucumbers. Something using rhubard for dessert.

mindutopia · 03/08/2025 14:19

We’re having roasted chicken drumsticks, sweet potato fries and a cannellini bean/chickpea salad with coriander and lime dressing.

This is a lot fancier than Sunday often is. Usually I’m over it by Sunday dinner time and everyone gets either cheese and crackers or something beige in the air fryer. 😂

I’ve decided to do a pot roast chicken with mash potatoes, roasted carrots and green veg.

Cottage pie with lots of green veg. Really looking forward to it as haven't had it in a while.

PermanentTemporary · 03/08/2025 15:21

We might go quite light tonight and have omelettes, with our tomatoes and courgettes from the garden. I usually have herbs in my omelette and dp has cheese

JamesMacGill · 03/08/2025 15:23

Bit cloudy and cool here, so doing beef stew with mash and broccoli. Kids have been living off things like omelettes and cold pasta due to the heat so it’ll be good to have a hearty dinner.

What is a pot roast chicken OP?

laddersandsnakes12 · 03/08/2025 15:51

Roast pork shoulder, roast potatoes, maple roasted carrots, sausage meat stuffing, Yorkshire’s, peas, broccoli and gravy. Just really in the mood for roasts at the moment even though it’s fairly warm where we are.

BestIsWest · 03/08/2025 15:53

I have braising steak in the oven and will probably do some sauté potatoes to go with it.

What is a pot roast chicken OP?

It’s what I’m calling a whole chicken in a casserole dish in the oven, with stock, shallots, garlic, herbs.

Homemade Chinese pork curry, egg fried rice and battered cauliflower bites

DJEvil · 03/08/2025 16:00

Steak, broccoli, green beans and chips with peppercorn sauce.

Notonthestairs · 03/08/2025 16:05

Dishoom’s Chicken Ruby - my first attempt at making it. It was recommended on a thread.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 03/08/2025 16:07

Leek and Wensleydale tart with walnut pastry, warm from the oven (not hot, I much prefer quiche type things when they're a little cooler) + salad. I think I saw this recommended here, so thank you, whoever it was! Have never made it before so fingers crossed.

Have meringues in the oven to use up the two leftover egg whites from the above recipe so planning on having some of those with strawberries, raspberries and blueberries, cream or frozen yoghourt. Deconstructed Eton Mess, if you like.

GhoulNextDoor · 03/08/2025 16:09

@Notonthestairs oh I LOVE that recipe! I'm always recommending it. Hope you enjoy, I am a bit jealous as now I fancy a curry ☺️

It was your recommendation on the all time favourite curry recipe thread! I’ve been meaning to try it ever since I read your post!
