Need some inspiration for lunch/dinner today.

OP posts:
mondaytosunday · 03/08/2025 16:12

We are having sea bream, homemade wedges and salad. We don’t do roasts generally as there’s only me and my DD, but later this week we will have roast pork belly with rosemary potatoes and veg, but not the yorkshires and gravy etc

FurForksSake · 03/08/2025 16:13

roast chicken, roast potatoes, carrots, broccoli, parsnips and stuffing. Served with gravy and redcurrant jelly.

we often have a roast on a Sunday and leftovers on a Monday, very economical.

MummyInTheNecropolis · 03/08/2025 16:14

Went out for lunch and had a halloumi and roast pepper salad. Dinner will be lamb kofta kebabs with Greek salad, tzatziki and flatbread.

thebeautifulsky · 03/08/2025 16:17

Chicken crown, stuffing, roast potatoes, parsnips, cauliflower cheese, green beans and broccoli, cranberry sauce and gravy. It started off cold and damp here hence the full on Sunday lunch. Now very warm so we're eating on the patio under a parasol!

HoneyHoneyHowYouThrillMe · 03/08/2025 16:57

Weather changed...was meant to be cold, gloomy and rainy today but it's warm and sunny!

I will make a lamb tagine instead with a couscous and vegetable salad on the side and some hummus and flatbread.

WTDress · 03/08/2025 17:54

Homemade steak and ale pie, mash and asparagus. Not very Augusty but I had most of the ingredients in and fancied it.

The famous MN roast chicken that will feed us for a week !
I usually do a roast on Sundays; no need to think about what to cook, & it's the easiest meal ever.

A timely reminder to stop scrolling on MN & get in the kitchen now..

We normally have a roast of sorts on a Sunday but today we are having gyros. Dh has just fired up the wood oven outside and has had all the chicken marinading overnight, bread dough proving and some delicious salads on the go.

Unescorted · 03/08/2025 18:12

Fried duck in red wine sauce with green lentils and new potatoes.

Zippedydodah · 03/08/2025 18:19

Homemade coq au vin, mashed potatoes, homegrown runner beans and peas.
I’ve made a raspberry and almond trifle too 😋

It’s what I’m calling a whole chicken in a casserole dish in the oven, with stock, shallots, garlic, herbs.

Sounds delicious. Is it a casserole where all the chicken pieces are cut up, or a whole chicken cooked in the stock?

Jdkaksbd · 03/08/2025 18:28

Falafel salad bowl with all the trimmings... couscous, olives, hummus, etc

jmh740 · 03/08/2025 18:55

Just getting over a cold and wanted comfort food so egg chips and beans

twobabiesandapup · 03/08/2025 19:35

My partner’s parents and sister came over today so I made a beef roast with roast potatoes, yorkies, veg, stuffing and pigs in blankets. Apple crumble and custard for dessert. Feeling very proud of myself that “superb” and “sensational” were two of the words thrown around by his parents after 😊 doubly proud that I did it with my 19 month old and four week old newborn in tow!

Genuinely can’t believe the upper class yuppie-ness of Mumsnet dinners. Love the spag bol poster - you are normal! Papa Johns for us and I can’t bloomin wait for the little delivery man to knock the door

We’ve just had shawarma chicken in flatbreads with salad and homemade coleslaw. It was lovely.

Haven't had done one for ages but doing Sunday lunch. Usually do roast chicken but I've had some braising steak in slow cooker since 8am and it smells amazing. Will be roast potatoes, parsnips, carrots, savoy cabbage, stuffing and Yorkshire puddings to accompany. I would also choose cauli cheese but no one else here bothered about it!

Have you tried Aunt Bessie’s frozen cauliflower cheese? It comes in little pieces so you can just have enough for one. There’s no way I’d be sacrificing it just because no one else wanted any!

FurForksSake · 03/08/2025 19:52

Morrisons also does a good frozen cauliflower cheese. I’m the only one who eats it so it’s great to be able to shake some out!

It’s gorgeous and I love how easy they’ve made it to cook.

What?!?! 😂😂😂
I’ve mostly seen really nice looking dinners posted! A lot of people have a bit more time on a Sunday than they do during the week and so make a bit more of an effort than normal. It’s not yuppy or middle class to make a nice Sunday dinner surely?!
anyway, enjoy your pizza, I prefer a Pizza Hut myself!!

The thread is on the food/recipe section of MN. It can not be a surprise that posters here are interested in food/recipes.

I could describe my jacket potatoes cheesy beans recipe as and when it’s called for.
