Usually at this time of year I treat the family (my mum and dad included) to a nice lamb roast. I can only afford it when it’s half price. I can’t see any half price anywhere!! What’s going on?? I’m sure it usually is half price near Easter!

You had to buy it a week or 2 ago. I found some in asda then. This week, Morrison, lidl and aldi had none left. let me find a recent thread.

Anyone know if Lamb is likely to be half price this Easter? | Mumsnet

VexedofVirginiaWater · 15/04/2025 16:23

I bought some half price from Asda just this weekend.

Notstrongandstable · 15/04/2025 16:23

I know everything has gone up in recent years but I cannot get over the cost of lamb nowadays! I love it but haven’t bought it for so long as I just can’t bear paying that price

Peridot1 · 15/04/2025 16:25

Sainsburys were doing half price lamb last week. Not sure if they still are.

Inmyownlittlecorner · 15/04/2025 16:27

I got some today from Sainsbury’s. There were loads there all well in date for Sunday!

AnnaQuayInTheUk · 15/04/2025 16:32

I've ordered mine from our butcher. There are 8 of us on Easter Sunday, 7 of whom are meat eaters.

I dread to think how much it's going to cost.

LBOCS2 · 15/04/2025 16:33

Sainsburys had half price legs in there yesterday, although you might need a Nectar card for it?

user1471538275 · 15/04/2025 16:34

Still in Sainsburys local to us.

ODFOx · 15/04/2025 16:35

Half price lamb legs in Aldi now.
half price lamb shoulder in Tesco.
half price leg in sainsbury ( but the initial price was higher than usual).
Half price leg in Morrisons.

Oldraver · 15/04/2025 16:37

I bought some in Sainsbury's last week (got some Moroccan lamb in the oven just now) They still had fine yesterday as did Asda at the weekend

Obviously it depends where you live 😅

Growsomeballswoman · 15/04/2025 16:37

I’m buying thick Barnsley chops ft my butcher

cantthinkofausername26 · 15/04/2025 17:41

Ok I’ve still got a chance! I’ll try Morrison tomorrow. Thanks all x

Too much farmland has been taken over by 're-wilders' and the number of sheep in this country is diminishing rapidly as farmers are pushed out.

Theunamedcat · 15/04/2025 17:46

Half price in Iceland too

MaleficentQueen · 15/04/2025 17:59

It’s been half price in a few supermarkets the last week or so, which I suspect is the reason why it’s harder to get hold of. We managed to get a leg early, and freeze it for Easter. Always find it flies off the shelves at Easter, so lots of people clearly have the same meal plan! 😅

Redwinetorelax · 15/04/2025 18:01

Waitrose had a third off until recently when you ordered - might be worth checking.

maudlinbrassmonkey · 15/04/2025 18:01

My Mum has been complaining about the scarcity of legs of lamb for years. Main culprit is demographic change. One group eat a hell of a lot of lamb.

I object! I admit to stocking up when legs are half price but I ( and my extended family) cannot be used as an excuse for a scarcity of inexpensive lamb; we are not a demographic: we’re just thrifty greedy bastards with big freezers.

Lol, if you’re thinking of Muslims they only make up 6% of the U.K. population. Just how much lamb does your mother think people are capable of eating?

narcASD · 15/04/2025 23:15

Got a frozen one for £12.50 in Iceland yesterday,

SchnizelVonKrumm · 15/04/2025 23:17

No idea but I read your thread title to the tune of "where have all the cowboys gone?" 🤠

Which demographic? Middle class? Older people?
TBH if more people want it, that’s going to make lamb easier to get, as it’ll be a more popular seller and more places will get it in. Lamb consumption has overall been declining over the past decade, and we’re starting to export more and import less, so really, the more growing mystery demographics of lamb-eaters, the better.

I’ve not had any trouble ever getting a leg of lamb when I wanted one - maybe you’ve got rubbish shops nearby?

@RayonSunrise is that what that poster was angling at? I genuinely couldn’t figure out what they meant and thought it referred to OAPs stocking up. 😂 Thanks for the heads up on that malarkey.

RayonSunrise · 16/04/2025 03:09

@JingsMahBucketAt least OAPs are a genuinely sizeable portion of the population, but given how people’s appetites reduce with age I don’t think we can comfortably blame lack of half-price lamb on them either. 😁

Overtheatlantic · 16/04/2025 03:13

Legs of lamb are hopefully attached to the lambs.
