If you ate at a quality pub type restaurant what make of condiments( specifically ketchup and mayo) would you to see offered?
Stokes
Hellmans
Heniz

Both the ketchup and mayo would need to be the same brand.

If it's really quality I'd expect to see homemade.

BIWI · 08/04/2025 15:44

I’d only go for Heinz ketchup, but sorry - hate their mayonnaise.

Don’t like Hellmann’s either, and have no idea what their ketchup is like (do they make it?!)

So even though I’ve never tried Stokes, I know it’s a more premium brand, so would have to plump for that one.

WaffleParty · 08/04/2025 15:44

Any are ok but Stokes is the premium one isn’t it?

BIWI · 08/04/2025 15:45

If you’re going to offer mustard as well, I definitely wouldn’t go for Heinz.

MolkosTeenageAngst · 08/04/2025 15:45

I know you said they have to be the same brand but truthfully I would expect to see Heinz ketchup but Hellmans mayonnaise. However if they absolutely must be the same brand I’d say Heinz. I’ve never even heard of Stokes.

Watto1 · 08/04/2025 15:45

Ideally hellmans mayo and Heinz ketchup but if they must be the same I’d say Heinz as lots of people wouldn’t entertain anything other than Heinz ketchup. Never heard of stokes.

Els1e · 08/04/2025 15:47

Hellmans mayo, HP brown sauce, Stokes tomato sauce

BarnacleBeasley · 08/04/2025 15:47

I think you wouldn't know what brand of mayo it was, because it wouldn't be hanging around in a bottle on the table, they'd bring it to you in a little dish with a spoon if you asked for some.

gottakeeponmoving · 08/04/2025 15:47

Sorry not the same brand. Heinz Ketchup and Hellmans mayo. Why do they have to be the same?

When served in little pots, I haven't a clue what brand they are.

Exactly. Wether spoons have them all out in bottles ..it doesn't shout quality

EffortlesslyDecluttering · 08/04/2025 15:51

Definitely Stokes, both their ketchup and mayo are delicious and bigger sachets than usual. Neither Hellmans or Heinz mayo are a patch on it.

LimeQuoter · 08/04/2025 15:52

Heinz ketchup and Hellmans mayonnaise. If they both need to be the same brand, I'd go for heinz, if heinz does mayonnaise!!

nothouseproud · 08/04/2025 15:56

Any particular reason why they have to be the same brand? Makes this post sound like an ad for Stokes (which I've never heard of before).

BarnacleBeasley · 08/04/2025 15:58

I'm going to sound like a massive snob, but if it's a 'quality' pub I can maybe get on board with providing a glass bottle of ketchup on the table, but not sachets, however fancy.

NetballHoop · 08/04/2025 16:02

Stokes, because I'm trying not to buy any US products and anyway, it's good to support British producers.

EffortlesslyDecluttering · 08/04/2025 16:03

I'd expect it in little dishes too TBH. Not bottles as they get messy and it can be hard to get the contents out. But if you are doing sachets Stokes are by far the best.

This.

  • agree completely that if it's really posh noone will know the brand
BarnacleBeasley · 08/04/2025 16:05

I quite like those tiny little tiptree glass jars, if you want small individual packages but not sachets.

Defo not an ad. For context, it’s an establishment that I visit, they used to provide bottles of stokes sauces ( clean bottles) in a lovely caddy and now they have changed to Helmans for both ketchup and mayo. Serving staff said it had to be one brand for both as instructed by the head office buyer. So the lovely Stokes ketchup in gone and they now have Helmans rank ketchup!

Bjorkdidit · 08/04/2025 16:12

It's not really a quality pub if it offers ketchup and I'd expect mayonnaise to be home made.

CrepuscularCritter · 08/04/2025 16:14

I'd go with Stokes personally, and they are also good for people with food allergies, as the majority of the sachets are gluten free (but that's me in selfish mode!). Both of the naice farm shop cafes near us use Stokes sachets or bottles.

EffortlesslyDecluttering · 08/04/2025 16:22

Hellmans is a real step down from Stokes, what a shame.

Yes, Stokes is lovely and my favourite.

Sorry by quality I mean not Wetherspoon's but more of a nicer pub but not gastro with homemade mayo etc
