One hot meal your whole family will eat

We have a few, but there are some things that are off limits because of fussiness/dislikes/allergies.

My lot will all eat:

Toad in the hole & veggies
Spag al ragù
Baked salmon, wedges & veggies
Fish n chips
Curry
Potato cakes
Chicken Noodles with soy sauce
Spinach, bacon & tomato pasta

But I can't make lasagne, cottage pie, fish pie, soups etc - well I could but some wouldn't eat which is just annoying.

Just looking for ideas!

I make Shepard’s pie for one person - use the takeaway tin foil containers for the extra 3 portions so if 3 have say stew - there’s a ready meal in the freezer for the other.

We have salmon, but youngest doesn’t - so they have fish fingers. Same sides - different dish!!

Pizza - again 3/4 one doesn’t like cheese so they have baked potato and tuna

3 like gammon - one doesn’t - they have a portion of the extra curry I made the week before

There are work around

Chasingaces · 14/01/2025 21:46

Tuna bake
Paella
Sausage tray bake
Sausage plait
Chicken or pork stroganoff

Deadringer · 14/01/2025 21:48

The only meal everyone eats is spagetti bolognese, but I don't really like it 🙄

RobinHeartella · 14/01/2025 21:52

Fried rice - I can even hide broccoli in it
Spaghetti bolognese
Chilli con carne (it's mild)
Jambalaya - dh makes this one
Lasagne - mil makes it
Pie - but only if fil makes it. The kids won't eat my pies as the vegetables are detectable

Following for more ideas

@RobinHeartella what do you mean by pie? What kind? Homemade pastry etc?

Pulled pork in wraps or baps. Chilli bacon pasta, creamy garlic pasta, beef goulash with jackets, corned beef hash, fajitas, roast dinners.

Sausage plait sounds interesting! We love most porky things so sounds good

Burritos. Very simple recipe on BBC good food and can be tweaked to various levels of pickyness.

Snowmanscarf · 14/01/2025 21:58

Roast dinner
pizza
chicken stir fry
toad in hole
chips

I forgot goulash! Love it and think kids will be ok with it. Thanks for the reminder.

It was bangers and mash today, with carrots, green beans and gravy made from granules. Has worked in the past with veggie family members as only need to double up on the bangers and gravy. Different vegetable preferences easy to accommodate by doing a selection in steamers and then everyone does a mix n match.

marmaladeandpeanutbutter · 14/01/2025 22:01

Roast dinner
Fish pie

Fluffycloudsfloatinginthesky · 14/01/2025 22:01

Smoked salmon pasta
IKEA style Meatballs

blackskytonight · 14/01/2025 22:02

Wow that's quite amazing those dishes, I can just about get everyone to eat mince and tatties and that's pretty much it.

Beef burgers are a winner right enough.

Going to make toad in the hole, can't believe I never thought of that!

We have 3 kids and one is 'allergic to everything' as my son says 😆, but I don't mind making her a variation.

Autumnalmists · 14/01/2025 22:04

Risotto
paella

AuraBora · 14/01/2025 22:05

About the only thing currently that everyone including the toddler will eat is macaroni cheese.. side of peas/broccoli/salad bits.
He'd eat it every mealtime if he could!

Chicken goujons and homemade wedges with peas also OK!

rosemole · 14/01/2025 22:05

I think toad in the hole is the all time favourite. DS would just eat batter and leave the rest if I let him 😂

Fil makes chicken and vegetable pie.
I can make anything into a pie (any meat, fish, vegetarian pie) and used to be very smug about my amazing pies but that was pre kids. They only want fil's pie.

Shop bought pastry, always. We prefer puff

lumpybumper · 14/01/2025 22:07

Mac and cheese
Lasagna

They won't eat -
Anything remotely spicy
Stew
Casserole
Sausage casserole

RobinHeartella · 14/01/2025 22:08

Oh yes we all eat quiche too. Dd will only eat it if I hide Galette des Rois charms in it. I have to ensure she gets a charm in her slice, and ds doesn't (choking hazard).

Edit for spelling

lumpybumper · 14/01/2025 22:10

Oh they also won't eat soup which is annoying. Or baked beans. And DS doesn't like pasta with any kind of tomato based sauce on.
Another huge favourite is cheesy salmon pasta bake with broccoli.

JC03745 · 14/01/2025 22:10

Its just DH and myself, and we eat anything, but some ideas:

Spag al ragù- Could you change it to meatballs sometimes or use a different mince meat?
Baked salmon, wedges & veggies- Do they eat any other fish? Cod, haddock, trout?
Fish n chips- What about home-made fish fingers? www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/homemade-fish-fingers
Curry- What type? Indian, Thai, Malaysian etc? Could you mix it up and try different cultures?
Potato cakes- Is this a main meal? Would they eat salmon, tuna or generic fishcakes?
Chicken Noodles with soy sauce- What about other meat options? Pork, turkey, duck, fish or just veggie?
Spinach, bacon & tomato pasta- Could you puree cooked broccoli to replicate the spinach colour? Any other veg pastas that work? Pasta alla Norma with aubergine?

AnnieMay2000 · 14/01/2025 22:11

Roast dinner
Chicken curry
Pizza
Southern fried chicken and chips
