Meal ideas for leftover turkey and gammon that isn’t curry or soup?

What are your plans for your leftovers?

I have loads left, no one in my home is a fan of curry or soup. Apart from a pie I am a bit stuck for ideas…

Well, apart from a sandwich that is!

Spaghetti carbonara with the gammon? I’d make a risotto with the leftover turkey and add mushrooms and courgette.

I made a ham and leek gratin with my leftovers yesterday. Fry the leeks, add some garlic granules and a bit of mustard powder, then add some frozen peas. Make a cheese sauce and stir that in. Then the topic is breadcrumbs and grated cheese. 25mins in the oven on 180°

Freeze it

Use for Risotto, scalloped potatoes (gammon), stir fry ( turkey)

Do you have a food processor? You could mince the meats and make meatballs or burgers or cottage pie.

Get some flour tortillas, put in shredded meat(s) add cheese, fold into square parcels and put on a baking tray open end down, bake for 20 mins. They can be eaten as part of a meal or like a sandwich (hot or cold).

Casserole or stew.

Toasties.

If they don't like curry will they eat chilli?

Lasagne?

Pizza.

Pasta Alfredo with the turkey or the ham or a combination of both.

Risotto, again use either or both, add mushrooms, peas, broccoli florets etc

Add either or both meats to white sauce and use to fill pancakes.

Turkey supreme served with rice.

Ham & mushroom omelette.

Stovies if you've got any gravy.

We’re having a creamy turkey, gammon and leek pie today.

We always have a pie with the left over turkey, gammon, some leeks and a creamy sauce. Sometimes throw bits of stuffing in there too.

We had spicy tomato pasta with some of ours

SnowyIcySnow · 27/12/2024 10:20

We had turkey and ham pie yesterday.
Ham sandwichs today.
Probably turkey risotto tonight, and that will be it pretty much gone. I've stopped massively over catering. It's liberating!

When I was working one of the things that got me through January was that I would make a lot of sandwiches a day or two after Christmas Day and freeze them. Then once or twice a week until they ran out I had a ready-made lunch. Bread well buttered to help minimise sogginess. One batch would be ham and mustard. I will admit that turkey and cranberry sauce (with stuffing ideally as well) did go a bit soggy at times but I still enjoyed it. Careful construction with the cranberry sauce in between turkey and stuffing, or in between two slices of turkey, would help a lot there. I used to freeze them in freezer bags or leftover bread bags and take them out the night before to defrost in the fridge.

Still do it now even though I'm retired. Nice to have an instant effortless lunch sometimes.

boatyardblues · 27/12/2024 10:21

Turkey fricasée.

AdaColeman · 27/12/2024 10:22

Use the ham in a layered potato bake....cut potatoes as for making potatoes dauphinoise, build layers of potato, ham, onion, any vegetables you want to use up, make the final layer of potatoes. Add stock (similar to potatoes Boulangere) dot with butter and bake.

Fancy Macaroni cheese with the gammon.

Turkey and mushroom/peas with filo pastry pie.

I'm struggling for different ideas too.

SydneyCarton · 27/12/2024 10:26

Jamie Oliver has a chilli recipe for leftover turkey which is great. Admittedly we’ve never actually made it with turkey, we’ve done beef or lamb, but it’s still very tasty!Turkey con chilli

Turkey con chilli | Jamie Oliver recipes

Turkey chilli is the best meal to make with turkey leftovers; build up the layers of flavour with a sweet vegetable base and you are away, so beautiful.

I always do a pie with mine, a nice creamy sauce and puff pastry on top. I also do the curry(sorry) and any leftover i chicken into pasta bakes.

Limer · 27/12/2024 10:30

Fry onions, garlic, mushrooms, add a tin of chopped tomatoes, add shredded/chopped turkey and/or gammon. Herbs/salt/pepper to taste. Serve with pasta, sprinkle grated cheese on top as an extra.

caringcarer · 27/12/2024 11:31

Turkey stew, turkey and gammon pie in white sauce. I'd probably put a bit of leek in with the mixture and shortcrust pastry.

ShrugGood · 27/12/2024 11:37

Zhuzh up your sandwiches. We have left over gammon warmed back through on hot part baked petit pain with a dipping sauce which is the glaze from the gammon that was cooked with it. After the stodge of Christmas dinner turkey wraps with iceberg lettuce, cucumber, tomatoes and red onion. Zhuzh up the mayo or whatever condiments you may have There are so many ideas on youtube or Pinterest for left overs.

This. I always have piles of cream and a roll of puff pastry in the fridge so make a pie. I find if it’s not thickened it’s a bit wet so dry off onions and garlic, make up a small roux then cream in. Season, add turkey and ham and into a pie dish. Let it cool slightly then add pastry and needs 25mins in the oven. That’s actually today’s dinner. I have a tray of ready mash I’d picked up in Lidl so minimum effort

SnowflakeSmasher86 · 27/12/2024 11:39

Jamie Oliver’s Turkey pie. 😋

BestIsWest · 27/12/2024 11:40

We’re having ours with chips and pickles today. Any left will go in sandwiches.

PerambulationFrustration · 27/12/2024 11:40

Shove it in wraps or pastry

Wavingnotdrown1ng · 27/12/2024 11:48
