Nice meal with beef mince...

Got people coming for NYE (very very relaxed and casual, lots of kids!). I was planning to do either a whole brisket or slow roast pork shoulder, but I've got absolutely loads of beef mince in the freezer and before I go ahead and order was wondering if anyone has any ideas for a standout beef dish using beef mince? Maybe some kind of amazing kebab? Looking for something really nice, not the usual 'big vat of chilli' always suggested here, or tacos, lasagne etc. it's hot here so we'll be outside if that makes a difference?

I love this from hello fresh:

Could copy the recipe

Becuase saying that I can't think of anything better on Nye than a cracking cottage pie!

All mine love bobotie it’s a bit different, can be prepared in advance. Lovely with rice or rice and beans, some nice salads and use up the Christmas chutney.

BigDahliaFan · 26/12/2024 07:25

I'd make kofta and have with lots of salads. And maybe some meatballs using different herbs so there's a contrast.

Moroccan meatballs with couscous and flatbreads realfood.tesco.com/recipes/morroccan-meatballs.html

Home made burgers with very finely chopped shallots, fresh garlic and herbs or spices added to the mix. Serve with ciabatta rolls or trad burger rolls and salad

caringcarer · 26/12/2024 07:45

My favourite is a homemade lasagne.

flubuggy · 26/12/2024 07:57

I wouldn't want to do a faffy meal that requires last minute cooking like koftas - so I'd go with a lasagne/garlic bread/salad, or the Moroccan meatballs (this has the edge because it's a bit less of an everyday meal)

Chilli con carne served with plain rice, sour cream, guacamole, salsa amd grated cheese, with plain tortilla chips for scooping.

Easy to cook, and only two pots required - one for the chilli, the other for the rice. Plonk everything in the middle and let people serve themselves.

Never had anyone not like this dish. I substitute the paprika for smoked paprika though, and I use beef stock not wine, as both adds more depth to the flavour.

Swedish meatballs in creamy sauce. With new potatoes or roast seeet potatoes and veg.

Burritos?

Mousaka (yes normally lamb but fine with beef) and Greek salad and pitta bread

Stuffed red peppers

Beef pies

SeatonCarew · 26/12/2024 08:07

Posh Cottage Pie , with red wine, orange juice and rosemary in the meat sauce, and extra mature cheddar and Dijon mustard in the mash. Could make root mash if you've any Christmas veg left. Scrumptious!

rickandmorts · 26/12/2024 08:09

I love a good lasagne and don't think you can go wrong. With loads of salad, chips and garlic bread

Although OP specifically said not the usual suggestions for a big vat of chilli

OP you need to decscribe more about where its going to be served, you say outside, in the cold? What are your cooking facilitiaes or keep warm facilities as that will affect what recipes are suitable

Agree with other posters that doing something like meat balls or koftas that require last minute quick cooking is not suitable for something like that

Five ideas.
For kids mostly ..
Porcupines.
Taco sauce - have other ingredients for kids to assemble.
Tomato based pasta sauce - with large pasta like Paccheri or Fusilli and Lumaconi Giganti
Stuffed peppers, mushrooms or butternut pumpkins - with hearty thickened mince and cheese.
Meatloaf - served hot or cold.

isthismylifenow · 26/12/2024 08:36

I would do tacos or fatjita type style where everyone can build their own. Just lay out all the fillings. I might consider doing a bit of chicken too as an extra option (I know you didn't state chicken though).

Or even a load of nachos?

Especially as it's hot. I'm in a hot country too and chilli, cottage pie and lasagne would not be on the top of my list either.

isthismylifenow · 26/12/2024 08:38

Argh sorry I see you said no tacos ...

Mulledjuice · 26/12/2024 08:44

Greek meatballs (keftedes) with tzatziki, flatbreads, salad and grilled halloumi.

Or something like Sabrina Ghayour's lamb and sour cherry meatballs but substitute beef mince.

GiftWrappedSuburbanDreams · 26/12/2024 08:50

Beef empanadas with chimichurri and fries
Beef soutzoukakia with pita breads, tzatziki
Cheeseburgers

StrangewaysHereWeCome · 26/12/2024 09:06

Harissa spiced beef pilaf with coriander yoghurt

Mashroom · 26/12/2024 09:08

lasagna would be the biggest crowd pleaser I think

JoyeuxNarwhal · 26/12/2024 09:10

Another vote for bobotie.
Kebabs/kofte too faffy unless you're planning to serve cold/keep them hot (would be worried about them drying out if the latter).
