Yes I gave my GF away too (was a Christmas present) What the hell does it do that a grill can't? Keep ALL paraphernalia to a MINIMUM, that's my motto.
I grill outside all the time, even in the winter. Keeps the kitchen much cleaner and with a little charcoal barbie it only takes a while to get it going. My parents even stirfry and fry outside for the same reason.

Some people's kitchens are unspeakable. Never forget opening an old boyfriend's kitchen cupboard and finding a chip pan with all the dirty old fat still in it in there. OMG!!

Puff, you want to get into grilled sardines served with white wine, good bread, a salad of chopped toms, cukes, onions and peppers with fresh chillies and coriander. Unbeatable and cheap as chips.

hi hc

Marmite is very nice in its place... I really recommed the chilli flakes, though. I put a little knife-tips worth in lots of savoury dishes, and gives it a little zing without making it too spicy.

Available, of course, from the one and only Turkish Food Centre.

Moondog, I LOVE grilled sardines - like the sound of that concoction - 'scuse my ignorance but what is/are cukes?

Cucumbers!!
Hey, I love sausages, but still feel a bit weird about them.
Mind you, you should see some of the places that I've been eating in around this part of the world-pretty damn close to the bone (and I aint squeamish) but bloody hell, the food is fantastic and I would rather a bit of dirt and grime than weird chemicals or additives.
Am addicted to tacky programmes on Reality TV at present in which disgruntled chefs do things like spit in the soup or piss in the coffee (all captured on CCTV) so I suppose the moral is.....who knows what is in ANYTHING!!??

most children will like this as it has the sweetness of apple in it...

1lb sausages
1 large red onion sliced
14oz can chopped tomatoes
2 bramley apples, peeled, cored and thickly sliced
1/4tsp dried sage
1/4 pint unsweetened apple juice
1lb can of new potatoes

cook sausages
cook onion for 3 minutes
stir in tomatoes, apples, sage, apple juice, and gently bring to boil
add sausages, potatoes and seasoning

to plump it out a bit, add a can of pulses (kindey or canelline beans etc.

quick, easy and nutritious.

You know what's going to happen don't you? You're going to run out of sausages and then you're going to have to buy some more!!!

Got chilli con carne for tea tonight, and I was really looking forward to it until I started reading this thread. I hold you entirely responsible.

BTW, you do realise the absolute classic has been missed?!!

SAUSAGE & CHIPS! YUM

Furball · 07/01/2005 21:57

Marthamoo - Whats the point of the George Forman? Well, No splatters and spits and sooo easy to clean, just a quick wipe with a kitchen towel and your ready to go for the next time. How fantastic is that? I used to hate cleaning my grill.

PuffTheMagicDragon · 07/01/2005 21:58

Furball - when I have used mine, its great. I'm just so lazy .

I'll try and remember then.....

Buy one of those Colemans sausage casserole packets.
Brown sausages under grill, I like to use really meaty ones with wild boar or something like that.
Then chop sausages and add to a huge pot. Use the packet mix but use half water and half red wine to make it up.
Add mushrooms, peppers, carrots, any veg you fancy after that.
Bung it all in oven to cook for about an hour or so.
Serve it with sweet potato mash.
And a bottle of red wine to wash it down with.

marthamoo · 07/01/2005 22:23

Furball, I just buy a new cooker when the grill gets really mucky.

Casmie · 07/01/2005 22:27

OvenClean ... they do grills too

milge · 07/01/2005 22:28

My recipe involves apples and potatoes, but see similar has been posted, so will keep it to myself( and dh and our guests who love it). NO baked beans, though. UGH

PuffTheMagicDragon · 07/01/2005 22:31

Cheers Thomcat. I have 8lbs of sausages to get through - 4 I bought myself and 4 kindly donated by my mil which I didn't have the heart to refuse. To be fair, they are VERY nice lincolnshire ones.

PuffTheMagicDragon · 08/01/2005 20:13

Don't worry, I'm confusing myself.

TWICE today I've clicked on a thread thinking there's been a new post because I didn't recognise my own name on the top of it...
