Today is the first day of cooler weather where I live (Chicago) and it has got me thinking of home and in the mood for tea and crumpets 🙂

What's your favourite treat to enjoy with a cup of tea on autumn afternoons?

Where did you get it from? As I had one after a v long time from m and s and it was just meh

They were from Greggs, a pack of four, sadly there were only 2 of us in the house at the time so I don't need to say what happened there lol

I bake a teatime cake most weeks with whatever is in the fruit bowl, to keep in a tin as a cut-and-come-again for the kids and forestall any whinging for ultra processed crap.

Last few weeks have been:

  • pear walnut cardamom upside down cake (photo attached!)
  • Nigel slater's marmalade loaf cake
  • apple ginger honey cake from honey & co
  • almond apple sour cream cake
  • banana tahini loaf
  • an old fashioned caraway seed cake
  • gooseberry crumble spelt cake

I've recently discovered Welsh cakes. Slightly warm with a little butter ... so good!

Homemade blackberry and pear crumble - from my garden! With vanilla ice cream.

This afternoon, I've made bread pudding for the first time, and enjoyed a slice of that with a cup of tea. It was lush.

Thankyou @rosyday for writing out the instructions. I just remembered to check back and seen your reply. I will give that a go on the weekend as we have visitors!

Probably going to get flamed for this but a kitkat Santa- my winter treat from the moment they start selling them

I can't criticise. I start eating hot cross buns in January. I've had enough of them by the time easter comes round.

Cadbury creme eggs, the ones I ostensibly buy for the grandchildren when they visit.

My DIL made chocolate mint fudge last weekk, an easy recipe, 1 big bar of chocolate, one big bar of mint chocolate, condensed milk. She stirred in aero mint balls. We were given a bag. OMG they were lovely with a mug of coffee.
