Today is the first day of cooler weather where I live (Chicago) and it has got me thinking of home and in the mood for tea and crumpets 🙂

What's your favourite treat to enjoy with a cup of tea on autumn afternoons?

Homemade biscotti - double chocolate, or parkin.

TheDandyLion · 15/10/2024 19:08

Viennese whirl.

Thanks everyone for your brilliant ideas 🙂 I'm not much of a baker but this afternoon I made a very simple apple cinnamon tart- photo included. The apple and cinnamon gave off a lovely scent as they cooked which made the kitchen smell lovely!

Ok I love a nice sticky slice of ginger cake. My old DMIL used to make an amazing one.

I never really liked tea cakes before, but my tastebuds seem to have changed with age and now I find them absolutely delicious!

@rosyday that looks lovely - how did you make it? I'm a rubbish baker but that looks worth a try!

Eviebeans · 19/10/2024 17:40

Yesterday I had a jam doughnut for the first time in ages. With the right amount of jam and sugar.

Yep, I just kept it really simple-
I cut one apple into slices and laid them on a baking sheet and on top I sprinkled some cinnamon sugar (you can buy it from Tesco) or alternatively just put cinnamon and brown sugar on separately. I baked the slices for about 15 mins at 350F (fahrenheit because I'm in the US). Then I got one of those pre-made sheets of puff pastry and put an egg wash on top (whisked egg plus a little bit of milk). Then I just laid the apple slices on top and baked in the oven for about 30 mins at 400F (my oven is a bit old and rubbish so probably other ovens wouldn't need so much time). With puff pastry you just keep an eye on it until it goes golden brown- and puffy! 😄
And that's it! I served it with squirty cream and you could add a sprinkle of icing sugar to make it more presentable 🙂 It was really delicious and easy to prepare within an hour- nothing to it really!

I’m addicted to slow cooking apples and blackberries in the mini crockpot with sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg and cloves then eating them hot with cool creamy Greek yogurt 😋

I do this with defrosted frozen mixed Berries. I just heat them in the saucepan with a star anise and a cinnamon stick, and serve with Greek yogurt, bloody lovely!

Dark chocolate gingers - Borders' are fab but I've recently discovered some in Lidl which are also rather yummy.
