How long do you expect a box of grapes to last ?

StiffyByngsDogBartholomew · 09/10/2024 18:45

3 people in family
other fruit is purchased
500g box of grapes

how long would you expect that to last ? Not as in how long it would take to go off, how long would you expect that box of grapes to be around for ? Eg, one - two days, that evening, some left for lunch the next day

the reason I ask is because apparently I have unreasonable expectations at how quickly (or not) they might be eaten.

3/4 days if all three people like grapes.

arethereanyleftatall · 09/10/2024 18:49

Two minutes. Two teenagers. I bought 7 punnets of fruit today. Strawberries, raspberries, blueberries x 2, blackberries, grapes, mango. I packaged pots up for the lunches tomorrow because I knew that by the time i came home tonight, it would all be gone. It was.
But they know I don't mind. It's there to be eaten. It makes no odds to me whether they eat it on day 1 or day 3. They have 4 days now of only apples, oranges, bananas.
I think the key is op, if they know they're allowed to eat it all or not. Mine know for chocolate, it's one third each.

LeafHunter · 09/10/2024 18:49

Two or three days. I find grapes are going off quite quickly so I wouldn’t expect them to be around by day 4 either way

JaninaDuszejko · 09/10/2024 18:53

Anywhere between 5 minutes and throwing them out shrived and mouldy. If everyone is eating 1x80g portion a day then 2 days.

wonderingwhatsnext · 09/10/2024 18:53

One evening sometimes, two days other times.

DreamW3aver · 09/10/2024 18:55

Totally depends , we don't have set timescales in my house, I'd rather things were eaten quickly that thrown away but on balance I dont have enough head space to monitor grape consumption

SunsetSkylane · 09/10/2024 18:55

Either 5 minutes or until I throw them out <teenagers>

boulevardofbrokendreamss · 09/10/2024 18:56

5 minutes.

StiffyByngsDogBartholomew · 09/10/2024 18:56

So expecting some grapes to be left, not just the ratty tiny ones at the bottom of the box, after 2 hours is not unreasonable?
they do know they can't eat them immediately as I have previously said if they eat them at this rate then I just won't buy anymore as it is ridiculous to have eaten over a pound of grapes between two before one member of thr house has even had one.

30 minutes

Neither do I usually but as I never get a look in on the grapes because greedy fuckers others eat them before I have a chance so it pisses me off as I also like them and I can't afford to buy them at the rate the other residents would like

i was just interested as to whether other families strip them like the proverbial plague of locusts

I keep mine in the fridge and I’ve eaten them a few weeks after buying! Perfectly ok ,no mould etc.

roseymoira · 09/10/2024 19:00

When you get them separate a portion out for yourself in a food bag

How have to go to mid-thirties and never thought to keep grapes in the fridge?! Thank you.

Lovetosleep1 · 09/10/2024 19:10

Green gapes last around 10 minutes, any other colour of grape sits in the fridge until they turn mouldy and I throw them out. My two teenagers eat all of the green ones, I never get a chance.

You sound like my husband! He only wants to buy food that will be eaten, but not too quickly 😂

Edited

In my house they last about a month until they inevitably go off and get binned, as no-one ever eats them. I don't know why we never eat them. I also don't know why I keep bloody buying them

Do you wanna move in here?

oviraptor21 · 09/10/2024 19:38

I'd eat 500g in two sessions. So maybe two days but possibly one.

MassiveOvaryaction · 09/10/2024 19:39

3 minutes or 3 weeks, depending on mood.

MassiveOvaryaction · 09/10/2024 19:42

Read your update op. Take some out of the box before they get to them? Buy yourself a separate punnet?

Mostly I'd go with a passive aggressive wittering about "selfish fuckers not sharing stuff" not quite under my breath though.

sangriaandsunshine · 09/10/2024 19:54

I know buy two tubs with every shop, one to eat whilst we're putting the shopping away and then the other will be eaten over the next day, maybe into the second day. Then the routine starts again.

KnittingKnewbie · 09/10/2024 19:57

The first ⅘ are gone in about 4 seconds. The last fifth just wither on the vine, nobody wants them!! 🤷🏻‍♀️

StiffyByngsDogBartholomew · 09/10/2024 19:58

Ok so maybe be a highly subjective Mumsnet survey I might be being a bit unreasonable

OP posts:
BeerForMyHorses · 09/10/2024 19:59

My kids would eat them between in one sitting.
